Nearly a year has gone by since Prue's untimely death,. Peter and Cassie are still separated but Peter is looking for a reconciliation. Cassie is bringing up Prue and Gavin's baby daughter Eve and hopeful of continuing her affair with Gavin, but she gets a nasty shock when she rings his flat and a woman answers. For Gavin is now in a relationship with student Vicky, who is desperate to move in with him, but Gavin still has not forgotten Prue. Meanwhile Peter's former secretary and lover Sarah returns to the UK now married to businessman boyfriend Geoff Roberts, but a devastating phone call for her husband changes all her plans for married life.

Cassie is reeling by Peter's plans to reconcile and move the family to Scotland, and Gavin's wish to have baby Eve over at his flat at the weekends. This doesn't go down well with his girlfriend Vicky, who is desperate to take the place of Prue in his heart, and Gavin later catches her trying on her things in the flat. Meanwhile Sarah is finding married life to Geoff suffocating to her ambitions, who expects her to settle into domestic bliss, and she finds herself rekindling her affair with Peter.

Gavin arrives at Cassie's home with baby Eve after his argument with Vicky, but finds Cassie unsympathetic. Having been stung by Gavin's revelation of his former affair with Cassie, Vicky reveals this to Peter but later regrets her outburst and tries to warn both of them. As Peter plots his revenge he continues his affair with former secretary Sarah, whose husband is beginning to get suspicious of her late nights out. Later Peter asks Sarah to lay some flowers on Prue's grave, still unable to bring himself to visit her graveside, and it is there that Sarah meets Gavin for the very first time.

Peter attacks Gavin after confronting him and Cassie over their affair while Prue was alive and tells them he plans to divorce Cassie and apply to the courts for custody of his grand daughter. Gavin discovers Vicky back in his flat and hits her for revealing his affair, but when she visits Peter at his flat he plots to use this to discredit Gavin in court and tells her to contact her father, a doctor, in the hope of him pressing charges against Gavin. Meanwhile Sarah has problems of her own. She has discovered she is pregnant and she hasn't a clue who the father is.

Having unearthed Cassie's affair with Gavin, Manson kidnaps his own grand-daughter only to be deceived by Vicky and shocked by Sarah. Life for him is becoming unbearable.

Peter is rushed to hospital after he is discovered by Vicky having taken an overdose. Cassie hurries to the hospital and meets Vicky's father, Dr Evan Lewis, for the first time, who happens to be the doctor treating him. With baby Eve now back in Cassie's care, she gives her to Vicky to go and find Gavin, but Gavin is nowhere to be found. For Gavin is preoccupied with Sarah, who he has met in a bar, but little do they realize when they go back to his flat that they are soon to be discovered by an unexpected visitor.

Peter is out of hospital and back at his flat being looked after by Vicky. Cassie starts dating Vicky's father, Dr Evan Lewis, while romance could be on the cards for Sarah after Gavin asks her to move in to look after his baby daughter. However, Sarah's husband Geoff is eager for a reconciliation, leaving Sarah with a dilemma. Vicky attempts to reconnect with Gavin, but when she learns of Sarah moving in to care for his daughter she tells him of Cassie's relationship with her father. Meanwhile Peter is still very depressed, having lost his grand daughter to Gavin, his wife to his doctor and his mistress aborting his child and later goes to visit his daughter Prue's grave for the very first time.
