It has been a banner year for Martin Delemazure, the managing director of Paris-based composer agency Grande Ourse.

He had seven films at the Cannes Film Festival in May featuring music by composers on the agency’s books, topped by Jury Prize-winner Emilia Pérez, which also won Best Cannes Soundtrack for Grande Ourse talent Camille, who takes a co-music credit with life and work partner Clément Ducol.

The other titles spanned Palme d’Or contender Wild Diamond, for which the soundtrack was composed by Audrey Ismaël, who also wrote the music for Un Certain Regard title The Kingdom.

Grande Ourse also represents David Sztanke, who wrote the music for a second film in the sidebar, Dog on Trial. Elsewhere in the Official Selection, client Matteo Locasciulli wrote the soundtrack for bio-doc Jacques Demy, the Pink and the Black in Cannes Classics.

Herman Raucher, a best-selling author and the Academy Award nominated screenwriter of “Summer of ’42,” died Dec. 28 of natural causes at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Conn. He was 95.

Raucher got his start in the industry working in live television. He wrote one hour dramas for anthology series including “Studio One,” “Good Year Playhouse” and “The Alcoa Hour.” In his screenwriting career, he wrote the scripts for two films starring Anthony Newley, “Sweet November” (1968) and “Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?” (1969), which Newley also directed.

Raucher was inspired by Bobbie Gentry’s popular song “Ode to Billie Joe” to write the screenplay for Max Baer Jr.’s 1976 romance film of the same name starring Robby Benson and Glynnis O’Connor. Raucher also co-wrote the script for the 1977 film “The Other Side of Midnight.”

Veteran screenwriter Herman Raucher, best known for writing the Oscar-nominated screenplay for the 1971 coming-of-age drama “Summer of ’42,” has died. Raucher was 95.

Raucher died on Dec. 28 of natural causes at Stamford Hospital in Stamford Connecticut, his daughter Jenny Raucher told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Summer of ’42,” directed by Robert Mulligan and starring Gary Grimes and Jennifer O’Neill, tells the bittersweet story of a teenage boy who falls for an older woman while on summer vacation as her husband is away fighting in World War II. A major hit for Warner Bros., “Summer of ’42” earned critical acclaim and several Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay for Raucher’s script.

Raucher went on to adapt the story into an international bestselling novel in 1971. Though he wrote several other popular films over his decades-long career, such as “Ode to Billy Joe” and “The Other Side of Midnight.” “Summer of ’42” remained his most notable work.

Subsequently adapted by Raucher into an international best-selling novel, 1971’s Summer of ’42 was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Original Screenplay. It told the nostalgic and bittersweet story of teenager Hermie — played by Gary Grimes and based on Raucher himself — who, during a summertime vacation on Nantucket Island, becomes infatuated with a beautiful (and soon grieving) older woman (Jennifer O’Neill) whose husband has gone off to fight in World War II.

April is about to be a good month for returning HBO and HBO Max properties.

HBO Max’s list of releases for April 2022 features three hotly anticipated seasons of television. The Flight Attendant, which helped launch HBO Max as a viable spot for good dramedy in 2020, premieres its second season on April 21. That will be followed by another go-around for the sci-fi comedy Made for Love on April 28. Of course, the big ticket item this month is something that HBO Max inherited from its cable cousin. Barry season 3 will continue the story of hitman-turned-actor Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) on April 24.

The TV offerings run much deeper than just returning shows this month. April 7 sees the arrival of Tokyo Vice, a sprawling crime drama with some episodes directed by Michael Mann. The series stars Ansel Elgort as an American journalist embedding himself in Tokyo’s criminal underground in the late ’90s.

Marilyn Bergman, the Oscar-, Emmy- and Grammy-winning songwriter whose lyrics written with her husband, Alan Bergman, graced such hits as “The Way We Were,” “The Windmills of Your Mind,” “In the Heat of the Night” and the songs from “Yentl,” has died. She was 93 years old.

Bergman was the first woman president and chairman of the board of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a post she held from 1994 to 2009. She and her husband and lifelong writing partner Alan Bergman wrote the words to some of the most popular film and TV songs of the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s, and continued to write together well into the 2000s.

They were Oscar nominated 16 times, and won three. The Bergmans were frequent collaborators with composers Michel Legrand and Marvin Hamlisch (“The Way We Were”).

The Warner Archive has released Robert Mulligan’s Inside Daisy Clover on Blu-ray and this new edition is a winner.

15 year-old Daisy Clover is a Depression era resident of Angel Beach, CA where she lives with her mother (Ruth Gordon) in a trailer on the boardwalk. She scratches out a living selling autographed photos of Hollywood stars that she signs herself. Daisy dreams of becoming a singer and enters a contest sponsored by mercurial studio owner Raymond Swan (Christopher Plummer).

Daisy auditions for Swan, wins a contract with the studio and is immediately put to work in a Busby Berkley style musical. With the help of Swan’s wife, Melora (Katharine Bard), Daisy is primed to become America’s newest movie sweetheart. This includes removing her from her mother’s care and allowing her obnoxious sister (Betty Harford) to become her guardian.

This diverse mix of composer Michel Legrand’s work for film is by no means comprehensive, Legrand’s phenomenal career spanned over sixty years. He scored over 200 films as well as theatre and musicals, won Oscars, Golden Globes, and Grammys (to name a few), and worked with a myriad of famed popular musicians. He made jazz records with Miles Davis and collaborated with the directors of the French New Wave. Later in life (and by no means slowing down), Legrand focused his time on classical music, creating concertos, sonatas, and ballet. He died this February at the age of 86 just a few months after the release of Orson Welles’s The Other Side of the Wind, whose score he composed. Tony Award nominee Lonny Price A Class Act makes his directorial return to the Bucks County Playhouse following A Grand Night for Singing, the first show of last year's grand re-opening.

Go to composer Michel Legrand's site and you'll be greeted by Barbra Streisand's newish rendition of one of his greatest hits, "The Windmills of Your Mind," originally composed for The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) — it won Legrand his first Oscar. This version opens Streisand's last album, What Matters Most, which, if you throw in the Deluxe Edition Bonus Disc, features eight more Legrand tunes. She's a fan. While Legrand won his second Oscar for his score for Summer of '42 (1971), it was Yentl (1983) that scored him his third win, plus two more nominations, one each for two songs Streisand sings in the film.
