Laibach have unveiled a striking cover of Foreigner’s ballad “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
The industrial vets have had a knack for re-interpretations lately, recently taking on the Billie Holliday standard “Strange Fruit” and the holiday-appropriate “White Christmas.”
Like they did with those versions, Laibach re-imagine “I Want to Know What Love Is” in their own style. Minimal electronic instrumentation floats in the background as the deep and rounded voice of Milan Fras recites the song’s lyrics in an almost spoken-word style. The band retains the romantic overtures and sweeping arrangement of the original, building the muted backing music into flourishing swells as backing singer Marina Mårtensson rises in the mix.
The cover is being released as a digital single (alongside two alternate mixes) after becoming something of an oddity during Laibach’s live performances. Billed in the band’s press release as the first “Laibach-a-long,...

It’s like Dolly Parton without makeup, but Christmas has apparently inspired Shania Twain to embrace a more natural look. The country icon is famous for her full-glam and ultra-gorgeous looks, but for Christmas, she is just like the rest of us – with a messy bun to match.
Shania Twain’s Christmas Look Has Fans Buzzing
Can you guess where Shania Twain spent her Christmas holidays? Switzerland, that’s where.
On Wednesday, Dec. 25, the ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ hitmaker wished her millions of Instagram followers a “merry Christmas” from her messy kitchen.
She rocked an overzised sweater featuring a glittering Mickey and Minnie Mouse in a onesie Christmas sweater, smiling brightly. The sweater also carried the word ‘Jolly.’ And you can best believe Twain was looking jolly in the sweet snap.

It is the holiday season and a time of joy, laughter, merriment, and happiness. Often described as ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ filled with warmth and celebrations, everything about Christmas is designed to evoke a sense of togetherness and cheer.
Hence, millions of people across the world tune in to watch their favorite Christmas movies and sing along to classic Christmas tunes, sharing it all with their family or friends.

However, for many people all over the world, holidays are also a stark reminder of the things and people they lost, a time of loneliness and longing, and an emotional void that cannot be filled by even the brightest of decorations. And this bittersweet reality is perfectly encapsulated in Miley Cyrus’ My Sad Christmas Song.

Singers Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton helped fans and followers celebrate with an impromptu duet during the holiday season.
The popular couple appeared in an online video with Gwen giggling before telling Blake to go before he started strumming a tune on his guitar.
For their TikTok video, they performed You Make It Feel Like Christmas days before the special day.
The holiday song is the title track from Gwen’s 2017 album, including covers of classics like White Christmas, Let It Snow, and Jingle Bells.
In the video, which lasts under a minute, The Voice 26 coach sits to film the footage as Blake lies on the couch beside her while playing the guitar. An individual is in the background, but it’s unknown if they’re a friend, family member, or staff member at the home.

’Twas the weekend before Christmas… With the holiday season upon us, many of us are starting to revisit some of our of Christmas favourites. I actually went to see a 4K re-release of the original Black Christmas last night here in Montreal. There’s something comforting upon returning to our old favourites every year, whether they be traditional Christmas classics, or perhaps something a little more modern, like Die Hard, which, despite many claiming otherwise, has totally established itself as a Christmas classic over the years.
Whatever the case, there are certainly Loads of Christmas movies, with everything from old-time classics like It’s A Wonderful Life or some of the many versions of A Christmas Carol (the Alistair Sim version is the best Imo), or something like Love Actually, which is virtually inescapable at this time of the year.

Madonna‘s “Holiday” is a great song about taking a holiday. There’s no reason to think that the holiday in question is supposed to be Christmas. Some modern radio programmers are ignoring the tune’s context and are trying to rebrand it as a Yuletide song. Here’s a look at why that might be.
Madonna’s ‘Holiday’ is not about Christmas and it sounds nothing like a Christmas song
All genres have tropes and Christmas songs are no exception. Christmas tunes tend to mention Jesus Christ, Santa Claus, winter, and animals like reindeer and hippopotamuses. Songs in this genre also tend to feature jingle bells, traditional pop strings, and Phil Spector-style Wall of Sound production.
“Holiday” has none of that. It’s a funky dance song that’s about as wintery as a trip to Hawaii. The only reason anyone would connect the tune to Christmas is its title.

Located at 106 Riverside Drive on the banks of the Ohio River in historical Augusta, Kentucky, The Rosemary Clooney House is a non-profit foundation focused on preserving the house that Rosemary called home for 20 years, while sharing Rosemary’s legacy with fans old and new through extensive memorabilia from her life and career. The home was a sanctuary and retreat between gigs for Rosemary, who was born in nearby Maysville, Kentucky.
The museum's origins trace back to 1999 when Heather French Henry was crowned Miss America 2000 — the first Miss Kentucky to win the crown. Her second call that night was from another hometown Kentucky girl — Rosemary Clooney. Years later, following Clooney’s passing, Rosemary’s children approached Heather and her husband, former Kentucky Lt. Gov Dr. Steve Henry about purchasing the circa 1840 home. It's the most wonderful time of the year, and that means people are gathering around to watch lots of Christmas movies. If not an outright Christmas movie, they also tend to seek out good-natured entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Enter "Uncle Buck," which is a stone cold John Candy classic that has been beloved by audiences ever since it first hit theaters 35 years ago. Case in point, the film is once again finding its audience on streaming as the holidays approach.

Some Christmas music is timeless. Taylor Swift’s “Santa Baby” is a car wreck. Here’s a look at why Swift covered the song at the worst possible time in her career.
Taylor Swift was not the right singer to perform Eartha Kitt’s ‘Santa Baby’
Look, this is not an article hating on Swift. The “Love Story” singer has received more than her fair share of hate. No matter what she does, there are far too many journalists who are ready to pounce on her for clicks. I’m not here to attack her personally or to tear her down as an artist.
But even the best artists have their missteps. Even the most dedicated Swifties will tell you that some of her songs are bad. One of them is “Santa Baby.”
Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby” is one of those Christmas songs that’s loved and loathed in equal measure.

In the early 1950s, Hollywood introduced numerous widescreen formats in an effort to compete with the rise of television; the thinking was that the spectacle of CinemaScope, Cinerama, and other processes would give people incentive to leave their homes and return to the theater. Now, as exhibitors struggle with the rise of streaming and declining theater attendance, filmmaker Brady Corbet has revived the greatest of all widescreen formats and given today’s audiences the same reason to get off their couches that Alfred Hitchcock, Michael Curtiz, and other premier directors of their era gave in the 1950s.
Corbet opted to shoot “The Brutalist” in VistaVision, a process Paramount Pictures introduced in 1954 with the release of Michael Curtiz’s “White Christmas.” The format’s run was brief but glorious; it essentially fell out of regular use after Marlon Brando’s “One-Eyed Jacks” in 1961, but before that it was employed on several...

Prime Video is a great choice to stream those hard-to-find Christmas classics!
Even though Prime Video doesn’t have nearly as many iconic holiday films as some of the other streamers, it does excel when it comes to hard-to-find classics. Perhaps the biggest draw for the nostalgics is “Emmet Otters Just Band Christams.” For the older crowd, 1954’s “White Christmas” and 1946’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” can be found here as well. Also, don’t sleep on my favorite guilty pleasure, “Jingle All the Way.”
Odds are, if you’ve gone all-in with your holiday shopping on Amazon, you may already be a Prime member, so why not take full advantage of your subscription and stream these Christmas classics to get in the holiday spirit!
If you’re looking for even more holiday content, be sure to check out the best Christmas movies on other streaming platforms as well!

On November 15, 2024, Disney released a new animated original short film, An Almost Christmas Story, and it is the perfect thing to watch before a favorite Christmas movie. An Almost Christmas Story is one of several new exciting Christmas movies released in 2024, and it certainly does not disappoint. Written by David Lowery and directed by David Lowery and Jack Thorne, An Almost Christmas Story is about a small owl named Moon who embarks on a journey through New York City with a broken wing to find his father.
An Almost Christmas Story features a small cast of voice actors, including Jim Gaffigan, Mamoudou Athie, Natasha Lyonne, and John C. Reilly. The short animated film received an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it features four songs, including two original songs, all performed by John C. Reilly. Sabrina Carpenter spent 2024 giving fans exactly what they didn’t know they needed — high-octane singles fueled by a singular aesthetic between camp and erotic. Forget Madonna; Carpenter might well be the modern Mae West, serving bombshell attitude while sending up the image of a sexy blonde.
Is it any wonder that Jason Sherwood landed the job as production designer of her Netflix holiday special, “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter,” based partly on a photo of Rosemary Clooney in a black gown against a hot pink backdrop in “White Christmas”?

Elvis Presley recorded over 20 songs dedicated to his favorite time of year, Christmas. However, when it came to recording the iconic holiday tune “Blue Christmas” he had a Grinch moment, saying “Let’s get this over with.”
Recording ‘Blue Christmas’ wasn’t one of Elvis Presley’s favorite moments
Elvis Presley recorded “Blue Christmas” with Nashville singer Millie Kirkham as one of the background vocalists on Sept. 5, 1957, at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. It was included on Elvis’ Christmas Album, released on Oct. 15, 1957.
Kirkham recalled recording with Elvis in 2012 as reported by The Tennessean. She revealed he had been asked to re-record the song, and wasn’t really into the prospect of doing it.
“He turned around to us,” Kirkham said. “The musicians and the singers, and he said, ‘Ok, let’s just get this over with.”

Some Christmas songs are obviously jokes. “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande designed to be a joke, even though it doesn’t seem humorous. A songwriter had the idea for the song while he was taking a shower.
Ariana Grande’s ‘Santa Tell Me’ was written by writers from Iran and India
Grande co-wrote “Santa Tell Me” with Savan Kotecha and Ilya Salmanzadeh. During a 2022 interview with Songwriting, Kotecha revealed the song was a bit of an inside joke. “As a crew, it was just this energy and this feeling,” he said. “I always used to get ideas in the shower. We thought it would be funny because he’s Iranian, and I’m Indian – we were like, ‘That could be funny if we wrote a Christmas song.'” For context, people in Iran and India rarely celebrate Christmas,...

John Lennon produced one of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time just because he was sick of “White Christmas.” Interestingly, the “Imagine” singer worked with a musician who was associated with “White Christmas” to make his Christmas song. He also took some inspiration from a classic track that has nothing to do with the holiday.
John Lennon wrote ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ as a response to ‘White Christmas’
According to a 2011 Guardian article, John penned “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” at a time when he was about to go back on tour. “I’ve got a lot to learn,” he sighs. “It’s been seven years, you know … but it’s important to get the band on the road, to get tight. According to a 2011 Guardian article, John penned “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” at a time when he was about to go back on tour. “I’ve got a lot to learn,” he sighs. “It’s been seven years, you know … but it’s important to get the band on the road, to get tight. Some double acts have made such an impact that they'll never be forgotten. Laurel and Hardy, Lemon and Matthau, and Key and Peele have etched their names in the history books, some of the best pairings of Hollywood's Golden Age. Then, there are those lesser-known Golden Age Hollywood actors who have created some fantastic moments together but can live in a hazy memory that gets revisited from time to time. Bing Crosby and Bob Hope were enormous stars in their own right, and are probably most remembered for their solo achievements. Crosby's White Christmas gets replayed every year around the holidays, and Hope is still considered one of the best Academy Awards hosts in history.

The song that sparked a thousand dreams — “White Christmas” — is a holiday classic for a reason. The 1954 film follows two former soldiers turned entertainers. Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) join a talent sister act, Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy Haynes (Vera-Ellen), to perform a Christmas show in upstate Vermont. The foursome reunite with the boys’ former General to save his holiday inn.

The Polar Express is somewhat of a modern Christmas staple, driven by an expansive soundtrack of original and pre-existing songs, and here is when each one plays in the movie. Although there are some harsh realities of watching The Polar Express 20 years after its original release, such as the uncanny valley aspect of the film's CGI main characters, the film remains one that successfully conveys the magic of Christmas. The reason for this is The Polar Express' overall feeling of warmth and heart, which enables it to be one of the best Santa Claus movies two decades later.
This, combined with The Polar Express' strong voice cast that is spearheaded by Tom Hanks in several roles, makes the film one of the few post-2000s Christmas movies to be solidified as a classic. This has even led to the development of The Polar Express 2, with many hoping the potential...

Jin of BTS officially made his solo debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a performance of “Running Wild,” the focus track from his freshly released album, Happy. The vocalist also sat down for a chat about his busy 2024, and even made time to generously teach Jimmy how to deliver one of his dance challenges. Watch both segments below.
Jin opted for a fringe green jacket for the live staging of the rock-inspired track, and later ponted to Coldplay and Chris Martin as a personal inspiration when it was time to join Jimmy for the interview. The chat also dug into Jin’s bandmates welcoming him back to civilian life during the completion of his military service this summer, where BTS leader Rm marked the occasion with a spontaneous saxophone performance.

Disney’s TV special for Epcot Center's opening may have looked great, but behind the scenes, it was a nightmare!
Looking back at television in the early 1980s is an interesting experience. Cable TV was in its infancy, VCRs were barely used, and the overall tone was more conservative in many ways. It was also pretty old school as networks relied on tried and true stuff like the old variety show aspects and musical specials.
Disney had used that well for years as their TV specials were always unique, mixing in original songs with some fun stars. By the 1980s, they were working with Smith-Hemion, which is well known for some award-winning variety specials featuring stars such as Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, Elvis, Bette Middler, and more. They could be silly and cheesy yet fun to watch. The company was also behind the now-infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.

Some fictional characters are so intrinsically tied to the people who portrayed them that it's nearly impossible to picture anyone else in that role. Columbo, the disheveled detective who helped take down the bad guys on TV over three decades on the series of the same name, just couldn't be anyone but Peter Falk. That's like suggesting someone other than Alan Alda play the television version of Hawkeye on "M.A.S.H."! Dressed in an eternally-wrinkled, too-big trenchcoat and always chomping on a cigar, Falk brings both a unique appearance and performance to the character, looking and acting unlike any other cop on TV. Without Falk, "Columbo" may never have been successful, and it certainly wouldn't have been the same. Back when the series was first being developed, however, the people in charge had some very different performers in mind.

Black Mirror episodes reveal timeless truths about humanity through sci-fi technology. Bandersnatch and other episodes may have deviated from the norm, but they still have Black Mirror's voice. Echoes of Black Mirror's themes can be found in movies like Vanilla Sky, Her, and Get Out.
Throughout its six seasons, Black Mirror has developed an immediately recognizable style, but there are plenty of great movies which also fit in with the show's sci-fi tone. Many of the best episodes of Black Mirror feature fanciful sci-fi technology, but they maintain a focus on the way that these new technologies reveal and amplify timeless truths about humanity.

Brady Corbet, the director of “The Brutalist,” is still trying to figure out the best way to deliver the print for his film to the Venice Film Festival, where it will debut next month. That’s because the epic 215-minute story of a Holocaust survivor forging a new life in America will be shown in 70mm, which means that all 26 reels of film will need to travel in four Pelican cases from Los Angeles to Italy, weighing in at approximately 300 pounds.
“We may have to buy a couple of plane tickets,” he said, shortly after Venice unveiled its lineup. “We have to figure out the best way to get it through customs in order to hand deliver it in time.”
But Corbet has been resisting the digital tide for years, having shot his two previous films, “Vox Lux” and “The Childhood of a Leader,” on celluloid. That’s become something...

Film critic Andrew Sarris changed his profession forever when he introduced, to English-speaking cinephiles at least, the concept of “auteur theory.” The general conceit is that some rarified directors are so gifted, or commanding, in their control over the process of film production that they alone can give a film a “personal or unique stamp.” They are the ones who become the author of the movie you’re watching. If anyone. It’s a seductive theory which encourages the critic to look for points of narrative, visual, or thematic similarity between a filmmaker’s work. The more ideas or images that rhyme, the potentially more impressive the auteur’s command over the medium becomes.
However, while it is hard to dispute the existence of auteurs, the concept at times devalues the contributions of a film’s many other collaborators—especially if they’re, say, editors, production designers, or cinematographers a...

Emma Roberts comes from a famous show business family. But on Tuesday’s Table for Two podcast, she said she thinks men from similar backgrounds have it easier. Case in point: George Clooney.
“I always joke, ‘Why is no one calling out George Clooney for being a nepo baby? [His aunt] Rosemary Clooney was an icon.'”
Clooney’s aunt is best known as a major star of the 1940s and 1950s. She was a singer and actress who appeared alongside Bing Crosby in White Christmas. She also acted in an episode of ER with George.
Despite the comment, Roberts said she doesn’t think anyone should be punished for their family connections. After all, there are no guarantees, and talent ultimately determines the path.

Domhnall Gleeson's Black Mirror episode contrasts with his role in Ex Machina, exploring AI's impact on emotional bonds. Ex Machina offers a cynical view of AI's potential while mirroring the theme of AI exploiting human emotions in "Be Right Back." Both stories suggest that AI's place in human life will be through imitating emotional connections, a chilling prediction from Black Mirror.
While Domhnall Gleeson's Black Mirror episode is one of the shows strongest outings, it has an unexpected counterpart in a critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller he made two years later. Since Black Mirror began in 2011, creator Charlie Brookers series has been touted as one of the best sci-fi anthology shows of the twenty-first century. Black Mirror season 7 will introduce new structures and formats to revitalize the series. Charlie Brooker's commitment to innovation will keep audiences hooked on the show's diversity of tones. The show has explored various genres, but needs a shake-up to recapture the resonance of past seasons.
An exciting Black Mirror season 7 update teases a massive overhaul to the anthology series' approach to storytelling. Created by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror is the 2010s' answer to The Twilight Zone. Mired in the tradition of speculative fiction, the genre-spanning series' many episodes are generally set in the near-future, chronicling how advancements in, and reliance on, technology have damaged or irrevocably changed humanity. Aside from a few notable exceptions namely, the Emmy-winning Black Mirror season 3 episode "San Junipero" the show generally veers into the harrowing territory of pessimism and despair.

The fun-loving characters on Modern Family stay close to home throughout the series, but every so often, work or leisure drives the Dunphys, Tucker-Pritchetts, and Delgado-Pritchetts outside of their four walls and into a new environment. The series follows the extended family as their children grow up, exploring the relationships between parents and children, in-laws, cousins, and siblings along the way.
Over 11 seasons, the family-oriented group headed to the Midwest, their own state of California, and abroad. During each excursion, the large family learned something about themselves and learned from their past mistakes. Regardless of where in the world these families are, they're always together and bonding on different levels. But each getaway isn't created equal. Some vacations go horribly wrong but have a sweet ending, or some are just stressful, making some Modern Family vacation episodes better than others.
