It always surprises me how good both seasons got, after their lousy first episodes. Season 1 was dark and gritty, with outstanding acting in certain scenes. Then season 2 lost its edge, after killing off one of its main characters, and bringing lighter storylines to a cartoon version of both the show and its heroine, Lucy Spiller. That looked more like « bad » Monica Geller, than the « new and improved » Gail Weathers she appeared to be in season one. I know Cox is more than those characters combined, but hers in this show is so similar to those two, it's partly why I love Dirt so much, and never got into her other roles... I get why FX decided to pull the plug on the show, though. The characters were awful people, and the Paris, Nicole, Lindsay, Britney of « Dirt/Now », were not that memorable either. Willa's ambition was at its peak in the last episode, and foreshadowed interesting storylines regarding her ambiguous relationship with her mentor. Lucy and Holt's romance, as well as Don's new situation, were things I would've also anticipated. Unfortunately, they never got that renewal to show what they planned on doing afterwards, and the series ended halfway through the first half of it second season... Who knows, if given the chance and opportunity, « Dirt » might have become the female « Nip/Tuck », but one thing's for sure, it spoke to us the same way reading tabloids did, and looked like an accurate depiction of the ruthless background doing it. Is it too late to revive this?
