Positives:
First thing is the fantasy world was well done. The first thing that stands out is how well the land is used for the story building. This has only been offered in Bahubali-2, AFAIK. The names of the landmass, the culture of the people, and how the culture of the people is established is really well thought out. Even the names of the characters stand out, and sound fresh to the ears, not the usual "pure tamil names".
The landscape is really well done, it must have been augmented with CGI, but it was captivating and unique. I watched in 3D, so that might have made a difference. Coming to 3D, it was really well utilized to enhance the shots and the environment, not a gimmick. This film has more to offer in 3D, than Captain America: The first avenger.
The is definitely some character building and most of the characters have well deserved, useful screen presence.
The songs are crisp and good, especially Kanga Kanga Kanguva song looks great on the screen. The BGM elevates all the scenes, thanks to DSP, but it has it drawbacks as well.
The attempt to connect two parallel stories is good.
Negatives:
The BGM elevates all the scenes, so the characters in the screen have to match that by showing their "aggression" in certain ways, which gets repeating after sometime.
The screenplay for the present time story is just flat and the usual. Looks like a "copy-paste" from other films of Siva. Modern portions could have been a lot better. Disha Patani is just fan service.
The movie has some flaws but offers something novel and enjoyable, if you choose to overlook those. Keep the expectation low and you will enjoy the movie.
I don't get how audiences like us get satisfied by a beaten to the death stories like Pushpa, but bash a movie which offers something new.
