Actors from Broadway’s Newsies, Suffs, and other stage productions are doing their part to encourage people to vote. The actors released a video featuring a medley of remixed Newsies tracks, including renditions of “Carrying the Banner” and “Seize the Day” reframed for the 2024 election.

Similar to the Broadway Newsies production, based on the 1992 Disney film of the same name, the remix video begins with newsboy Jack Kelly rallying an army of townspeople to participate in the next election. “Running your mouth don’t change nothing, spot,” Jack said in the video.

Exclusive: Newsies fans have reason for a little Extra! bounce in their step today: The director, composer, lyricist and cast members of the Broadway musical and 1992 movie adaptation have reunited for a non-partisan get out the vote video that features new performances of updated songs from the show.

The project is for Broadway Votes, the theater industry’s largest organized get out the vote effort, and features a remix video of Newsies’ “Carrying the Banner” and “Seize the Day” numbers. The project reunites the film’s director Kenny Ortega with composer Alan Menken and lyricist Jack Feldman. It’s the first time they’ve re-teamed since the film.

The songs are reframed for the 2024 election and newly re-recorded. The video – watch it above – was filmed at the Connelly Theater in Manhattan’s East Village.

This isn’t a lie and it’s not pretty — the latest “Pretty Little Liars” reboot will not be returning for Season 3 at Max.

After premiering as “Pll: Original Sin” in July 2022, the series rebranded as “Pll: Summer School” for this past May’s second season. Max confirmed the cancellation on Friday.

The new generation of Pll returns for season two, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, premiering on Max on May 9, 2024 with the release of the first two episodes. New episodes of the eight-episode season will be released on Thursdays, with the big season finale set for June 20th.

Cage played treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates in Disney’s 2004 action-adventure romp, with National Treasure: Book of Secrets mapping a path to theaters in 2007.

The “National Treasure” Disney+ series has come to a striking halt.

Based on the wildly popular film franchise starring Nicolas Cage in the aughts, “National Treasure: Edge of History“ has been officially cancelled after a 10-episode run starting in January.

Deadline has revealed that the series, starring Lisette Olivera as Jess Venezeula, a DREAMer fearlessly navigating to locate a Pan-American treasure containing a vital family secret, has officially ended.

The series boasted a heavyweight cast, including Hollywood veterans like Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel. The series also starred several actors, including Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

“Edge of History” was missing the pivotal presence of Cage, but the creators, the Wibberleys, were hoping to bolster many more seasons which would have eventually featured the iconic actor.

Disney+ has officially canceled its TV spinoff of the hit movie series.

Deadline first reported the news on Friday.

Lisette Alexis, Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith starred as series regulars.

Catherine Zeta-Jones also appeared as Billie, a badass billionaire with an eye for black-market antiques. 

Movie series veteran Justin Bartha reprised the role of computer expert Riley Poole from the movies.

The series was described as an expansion of the National Treasure movie franchise told from the point of view of a young heroine, Jess (Lisette Olivera), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer in search of answers about her family -- who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

The streamer has canceled its series National Treasure: Edge of History after a single season. The news comes more than two months after the 10-episode series wrapped in early February.

The show premiered in December 2022. Per usual with streaming series, detailed viewing figures aren’t available for Edge of History. It made Nielsen’s streaming rankings once during its run, tying for ninth place among original series for the week of Jan. 16-22. (It’s one of only two Disney+ original series not related to Marvel or Star Wars to make the rankings; The Santa Clauses is the other.)

“National Treasure: Edge of History” has been canceled at Disney+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.

Based on the “National Treasure” film franchise, Disney’s TV adaptation followed treasure hunter Jess Venezuela. After a stranger gives her a tip about a centuries-old treasure possibly connected to her father, she and her friends set out on the hunt. Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith were among the cast.

In the season one finale, which aired in February, co-creators Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (who also wrote the first two films) closed the first installment unveiling a “National Treasure” twist. FBI Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) — who appeared in both “National Treasure” films and recurred on the series — revealed himself to be the Cras Est Nostrum’s Salazar, a generational title for wizard behind the curtain and had been secretly sabotaging Billie’s (Zeta-Jones) Treasure Destoyer hunts.

The treasure hunt is over.

Disney+ has cancelled National Treasure: Edge of History after a single season, according to our sister site Deadline. The news comes two months after the release of the Season 1 finale, which dropped Feb. 8.

The season one finale of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History ties up all the treasure-hunting loose ends while dangling the possibility of where season two could go if the streaming service picks up the drama. Episode 10, “Treasure Protectors,” picks up the action right where episode nine ended, with Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) having just stabbed Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) with a sword. We, the audience, now know he’s Salazar – the man we’ve heard about all season but whose identity has just been revealed.

When Billie (Catherine Zetta-Jones) questions Salazar about why he’s there, Rafael (Jacob Vargas) chimes in and reminds her that Salazar is the one who killed her brother. But, of course, Salazar claims Rafael is a liar.

After loading the boat, they set off to find the treasure.

Episode nine of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History is jam-packed with surprises, so buckle in. The episode kicks off with Jess (Lisette Olivera) and her father, Rafael (Jacob Vargas), being led through a private airport by Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and her team. Rafael has a plan but Jess has one too, of course, and lets him know she has Ethan’s phone.

Before boarding the private plane, Billie reminds them that she heard everything and wants Rafael’s journal. She orders Kacey (Breeda Wool) to search Jess.

Elsewhere, Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is currently freaking out. He and Liam (Jake Austin Walker) went to Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) and told her about Myles – his grandpa’s old nurse – being murdered. When Agent Ross checks out the scene, Myles’s body is gone and the room’s clean.

With just two episodes left in season one of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History, things are really heating up. Episode seven ended with Jess concluding she needs to break her father out of a prison in Mexico. Episode eight picks up with Jess’s dad, Rafael (Jacob Vargas), in for a shock when he sees Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) has come to visit him.

Billie accuses him of killing her brother and Rafael denies it, insisting it was Salazar who killed her brother. Billie demands the last relic or else she’s going after Jess. “You’re about to find out how it feels to lose the person you love more than anything else in the world,” warns Billie.

Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode seven is filled with one shocking twist after another, beginning with a fake tape implicating Jess in Sadusky’s murder. Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) and her boss, Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco), seem to believe the recording is real, and Hendricks instructs Ross to get a warrant for Jess’s arrest.

Jess, Tasha (Zuri Reed), and the gang’s newest member, Liam, show up at Ethan’s place to use Oren’s (Antonio Cipriano) old camcorder. We had the pleasure of interviewing the star of National Treasure: Edge of History, Lisette Olivera, in addition to her co-stars Zuri Reed, Lyndon Smith, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, and Jake Austin Walker. Speaking with the cast, we discuss escape room strategies, taking the franchise to new places, and the origins of their love for puzzles and adventure.

The first two episodes of National Treasure: Edge of History are currently available to stream on Disney+ and are a must-watch for fans of the National Treasure movie franchise. Taking place in the same universe as the original films, the series stars Lisette Olivera as 22-year-old Jess Valenzuela. Jess' knack for solving puzzles and impressive attention to detail whisk her into a dangerous hunt for history's long-lost treasure, and it doesn't take long for her group of friends to get caught in the crossfire.

Jordan Rodrigues plays the role of Ethan, Jess' childhood friend who's determined to keep her safe. He has worked on projects such as The Fosters and Light as a Feather, and recently wrapped the indie film Left With Only Rain. Meanwhile, Jake Austin Walker plays Liam, a newcomer to the group, and Antonio Cipriano plays Oren, who is fresh out of a long-term relationship with Jess' best friend.

“National Treasure: Edge of History” is a treat for the fans of the original Nicholas Cage film series. It’s a bona-fide thriller that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. The series takes its viewers on quest anyone with love for history to jump on into. But “Edge of History” comes with an added advantage – “It is about a non-white America. National Treasure: Edge of History introduces Antonio Cipriano as Oren Bradley, one of a new generation of treasure hunters. Set in the same universe, 15 years after the National Treasure movies starring Nicolas Cage, Disney+'s new TV series has the same brand of global adventure that made the films wildly popular.

Oren joins Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera) in a hunt for an ancient treasure tied to the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas. The joy of Disney’s “National Treasure” franchise lies in its precise balance of reverence and irreverence. For all the choreographed mayhem, cheeky ahistoricity, and gross mishandling of antiquities, the beloved 2004 film and its 2007 sequel are fundamentally in awe of history, respectful of legacy, and devoted to family.

Despite its sturdy plot mechanics, broad audience appeal and evergreen themes, the “National Treasure” franchise is lacking in currency. Fifteen years have passed since the last entry, a span of years in which the holiday tentpole has evolved, as has Nicolas Cage, who is now more drawn to auteurist grindhouse indies than Jerry Bruckheimer blockbusters. With the increasingly narrow odds of a film to complete a trilogy, the only way to save “National Treasure” from becoming a dusty relic itself was to detonate it and build something new from the ruins.

National Treasure: Edge of History is about a new, fantastic prize buried somewhere in the world: Montezuma's gold. “You notice things no one else would notice” is a compliment paid more than once to Jess (Lisette Olivera), the heroine of National Treasure: Edge of History. It’s ostensibly what makes her the ideal spiritual successor to Ben Franklin Gates — the protagonist played in the franchise’s two previous big-screen entries by Nicolas Cage, who does not appear here.

In practice, though, it feels more like the show’s way of insisting that Jess is more interesting than the script actually allows her to be, and its excuse for papering over the carelessness of its mysteries. Jess may have an eye for detail, but her Disney+ series has no patience for them — it’s less an intricately crafted puzzle than a jumble of half-broken odds and ends.

New posters for the upcoming National Treasure: Edge Of History series include a secret message. Developed by Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, the Disney+ show will follow a new group of explorers, led by Jess Valenzuela (played by Lisette Olivera). With the help of returning character Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), Jess is on the hunt for three mystery boxes. However, she isn't the only one, as the clues in those boxes are key to finding a lost treasure that Jess learned about from her dad when she was younger.
