June 6 marks the series finale of Pose, a drama that enlightened the masses about 1980s and ’90s ballroom culture in New York that served as a haven of family and love for the Lgbtqia+ community — specifically for trans people of color. The finale aligns with the kickoff of Pride Month, and for Steven Canals, who created the series alongside Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, this is an end of a groundbreaking era of television and the start of a career destined to flourish.
For three seasons, Pose has put shine on the impact and influence ballroom culture has had on the masses. Deeper than that, it chronicled the history of the HIV and AIDS epidemic, tackled gender identity and the experiences of queer people of color that often go unseen and unheard. With a cast that includes Mj Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Billy Porter, Indya Moore, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Charlayne Woodard,...

“To be clear, Damon did Not die,” showrunner Steven Canals says
Season 3 of “Pose” is streaming now on FX, and fans may notice a familiar face is somewhat absent — Damon, played by Ryan Jamaal Swain, isn’t around much in the final season.
Damon is featured in the first couple episodes of the season, at a watch party for the the O.J. Simpson car chase and giving Pray Tell a book on alcoholism, revealing that he’d previously spent time in Alcoholics Anonymous. But by the end of the second episode, Damon is pretty much a ghost, leaving fans to speculate where he disappeared to.
Some fans speculated that Damon died, but the truth is, he was written out of the show partially because of a family tragedy that Swain faced last summer. In July, Swain’s sister was shot and killed in Birmingham, Ala., at age 24. “The unimaginable happened last night,...

Pose returned for its third and final season on Sunday night, and it's already making fans emotional. During the two-episode premiere, which takes place three years after season two, one character's storyline seemingly comes to an end. After moving back to NYC at the end of season two, Damon (Ryan Jamaal Swain) only makes a handful of appearances in the first episode at the family dinner and for the O.J. Simpson trial watch party.
During the party, Damon and Pray Tell (Billy Porter) share a moment as they discuss alcohol addiction. Damon eventually reveals that he has also suffered from addiction as he shows Pray Tell a book from Alcoholics Anonymous. However, by the second episode, Damon is completely Mia. It isn't until the end of the episode, that we learn from Blanca (Mj Rodriguez) that Damon relapsed from alcoholism and moved to be with a cousin in Charleston, Sc.

FX Networks has released the official trailer for “Pose” Season 3, the trailblazing trans TV series created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals. Since its premiere in 2018, “Pose” has been glamor-kicking down doors previously welded closed, and from the looks of this debut trailer, the team shows no sign of slowing down. As it did between the first and second seasons, the narrative will jump ahead a few years, this time landing in 1994, with AIDS still devastating the queer and trans community.
Here’s what we know so far about the rest of the plot, courtesy of FX:
“In the final season of ‘Pose,’ time flashes forward to 1994. Blanca struggles to balance being a mother, a present partner to her new love, and a nurse’s aide. Meanwhile, as AIDS becomes the leading cause of death for Americans ages 25 to 44, Pray Tell contends with unexpected health burdens. Pose...

Pose will have one last hurrah at FX.
The cabler on Friday announced that the beloved series will wrap with a truncated third season.
The third season is set to premiere Sunday, May 2 at 10/9c, with the series finale set to air June 6.
“Pose has been one of the creative highlights of my entire career,” says co-creator Ryan Murphy of the decision to end it.
“From the very beginning when Steven Canals and I sat down to hear his vision and ideas for the show, it has been a passion project. To go from the beginning of my career in the late 90s when it was nearly impossible to get an LGBTQ character on television to Pose — which will go down in history for having the largest LGBTQ cast of all time — is a truly full circle moment for me."

According to FX, the seven-episode final season will jump ahead to 1994: “Ballroom feels like a distant memory for Blanca, who struggles to balance being a mother with being a present partner to her new love, and her latest role as a nurse’s aide. Refresh For Latest… After months and months of what has seemed like an endless campaign, it is finally Election Day in America.
The polls are open from coast to coast in what is anticipated to be a record-breaking day as millions are voting or are heading to cast their ballot later Tuesday. Like nearly 100 million Americans, polling leading Joe Biden and incumbent Donald Trump voted early.
For those who rose really early this morning or stayed up late last night, some of the first votes were counted in the tiny New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch just after midnight Est. In what could be a prophetic result or just a piece of post-election trivia, all 5 votes in Dixville Notch went to former Vice-President Biden.
A very vocal force in this year’s election, Hollywood players and a few other notables were up near the crack of dawn seeking to get out the vote.

FX’s award-winning series “Pose” is planning to return to production in October.
While the situation remains fluid, a member of the “Pose” crew is getting tested for Covid-19 this week in anticipation of the show starting to film next month, a source tells Variety. Production on season 3 was halted in March, due to the coronavirus outbreak in New York City and across the country.
“When production paused, I wasn’t shocked — I knew it would happen — but it was a bittersweet moment for me,” star Indya Moore told Variety in June. “On the one hand, if anyone had gotten sick, it surely would have spread fast. On the other hand, most folks working on a production are living paycheck to paycheck. So I was worried about how they are going to survive.”
Disney Television Studios declined to comment.

With coronavirus making large-scale festivals a public health hazard and widespread protests forcing the nation into a reckoning on racial inequality, this Pride season is one unlike any other. And yet, the spirit of a movement itself born out of a protest lives on. As the month of June comes to a close and International Pride Day celebrations turn virtual, E! News has asked some of Hollywood's newest generation of LGBTQ stars to share what Pride means to them in 2020. Welcome to The New Faces of Pride. In entering into the world of FX’s “Pose,” one steps onto the gritty streets of 1980s and 1990s New York City, where characters are losing loved ones to HIV/AIDS — and at the same time attending colorful, vibrant balls that allow for a creative outlet and safe space for those who identify as LGBTQ. These are two very distinct settings, but they must have the same tone. That is why showrunner Steven Canals doesn’t actually separate the worlds — or the scenes set in them — when he writes the episodes.
“Ball scenes are either there to aid in pushing the narrative forward or serve as a reprieve from all of the drama,” Canals says. “But the tone of any ball scene is pretty much in line with the theme of that particular episode.”

On “Euphoria,” Zendaya plays Rue, an introverted teenager who numbs the pain of high school by turning to drugs. It’s a performance whose emotional power comes from a razor-thin closeness to the truth. Every bit as raw and real is Mj Rodriguez’s powerful turn on “Pose” as Blanca, the den mother of a group of orphan performers in the drama about transgender women in New York. They talked to each other over video chat for Variety‘s Actors on Actors issue.
Mj Rodriguez: Ms. Zendaya, as you may know, I am an extreme fan of “Euphoria.” I love your work. I think you are an amazing actress and so versatile. What was it like finding Rue?
Zendaya: Rue is obviously very different from me, but there’s something that feels like home. Something that feels very stepping into shoes that you somehow already have worn before. I just...

Mj Rodriguez was given all kinds of juicy material in Season 2 of FX’s “Pose,” in which she plays Blanca, mother of the House of Evangelista. Early into last summer’s episodes, Blanca learns she has AIDS but she never stops fighting. We see her stand up for her rights, join Act Up, open up a nail salon, find love and absolutely nail a lipsync of Whitney Houston‘s version of the National Anthem. “It was a lot to really delve into and I loved it,” says Rodriguez in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “I loved that she was finally finding a space for herself.” Watch the full video interview above.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of the season two finale of Pose.
Not even five minutes into the season two finale of Pose and the emotions start stirring as it is evident there has been a time jump from last week’s episode of fun in the sun. Now in 1991, we see Blanca (Mj Rodriguez) and Pray Tell (Billy Porter) reunite as it is clear they haven’t seen each other in a while. Less than five minutes in and these two will have you all up in your feelings, reaching for the Kleenex — but I would save some for even more emotional moments in the finale because this episode is quite a journey.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Revelations,” the eighth episode of the second season of “Pose.”
When Steven Canals wrote the script for the eighth episode of “Pose’s” second season, titled “Revelations,” he did not know he was going to be directing such an emotional, intimate sex scene between Pray Tell (Billy Porter) and Ricky (Dyllon Burnside).
“It’s scripted as, ‘Pray Tell is resistant, then he kind of gives into his passion, and then off of his passion we cut to the title sequence.’ I took that, but obviously that’s not what I gave you,” Canals tells Variety.
Canals also wrote the episode, and from the time he was working on the story on the page to when he was prepping shot lists, he thought there “would just be kissing.” But as began thinking more deeply about what he wanted to say...

Naomi Watts is on a career high. The two-time Oscar nominee’s name is buzzing all over the industry thanks to her recent starring roles on film and TV, like Showtime’s “The Loudest Voice” and HBO’s upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel.
“I’m super thrilled,” Watts told Variety at the premiere of her latest film “Luce” about the highly anticipated “Thrones” spin-off.
The secretive “Thrones” prequel pilot has just wrapped shooting in Belfast. During HBO’s TCA summer press tour in Los Angeles, president of programming Casey Bloys hailed the pilot, proclaiming that it contains “amazing” footage.
“It’s such a great group of people. And they did such a great job,” Watts said of joining the “Thrones” world. “It was one of the most phenomenal things that’s happened on TV… I’m super excited. That’s all I can say.”

Ryan Murphy’s groundbreaking FX series, “Pose,” opened up the TV series format to Lgbtq inclusion and diversity like never before with its dazzling depiction of ’80s African-American and Latino ball culture in New York. It served as an allegorical bridge of liberation and empowerment amid the rise of Trump, and costume designers Lou Eyrich and Analucia McGorty were key collaborators in creating the boldest costume statement of the season.
“Ryan had a vision from the beginning with his support team of [co-creator] Steven [Canals] and [producer] Janet [Mock],” said Eyrich, who also served as producer. “They bring such a wealth of experience and information so we were guided by them. To be able to tell this story during those dire times, and to have this place for people to walk in and feel safe and dance and dress up was vital. So we got to learn both worlds.”

The beloved characters of “Pose” are returning, and somehow looking even more fabulous than before. After many stylish but detail-free teasers, the official trailer for Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s FX series is finally here. This season will jump ahead in time from the end of Season 1 to the early 1990s, which brought the mainstreaming and commodification of ballroom culture. Just as Madonna’s “Vogue” is climbing the pop charts, the AIDS epidemic is decimating the community, and the show’s beautiful chosen family must adapt to a shifting reality.

A very odd thing kept happening to me as I watched the first season of Pose, FX’s drama about New York’s drag ball scene in the Eighties and Nineties. Again and again, the part of my brain trained to understand how modern serialized drama narratives function would predict the worst possible outcome in each scenario for the show’s heroines and heroes. Only… that’s not what happened.

Updated, 11:15 Am: FX said today that Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s Pose will premiere on Tuesday, June 11 — two days later than originally announced. The network didn’t cite a reason for moving the return date but said the series that aired on Sundays during its rookie season will move to Tuesdays for S2. It’s notable that HBO last week set the Season 2 premiere of its Emmy-winning drama Big Little Lies for Sunday, June 9 — the date that FX had set on April 8 for Pose‘s return.
Previously, April 8: The ballroom is nearly ready to reopen. FX said today that its Ryan Murphy drama series Pose will return for Season 2 at 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9.
The show explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society: the underground ball culture, the rise of the Trump-era luxury universe and the downtown social and literary scene that came to define New York in the 1980s.
