Bryan Cranstons lead role in Showtimes drama series Your Honor was an anticipated return to television. After his unforgettable role in AMCs drama series Breaking Bad as Walter White from 2008-2013, Bryan Cranston entered a new role as Michael Desiato, a respected New Orleans judge who protects his teenage son after killing a powerful mob boss's teenage son in a hit-and-run accident. The Showtime series' first season consisted of 10 episodes, and it was soon clear that Your Honor was not a Breaking Bad replacement.

The two top-rated episodes escalated from the beginning with great inclusion of tension-building, dramatic elements, and suspense. Bryan Cranston's crime drama Your Honor abruptly ended in March 2023 after only two seasons, leaving many wondering why Your Honor season 3 never came to fruition. Based on the Israeli series Kvodo, Your Honor stars Bryan Cranston as Michael Desiato, a New Orleans judge whose teenage son, Adam Desiato (Hunter Doohan), accidentally kills another teenage boy in a hit-and-run. When Michael finds out that the victim is the son of mob kingpin Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg), he uses his connections to cover up Adam's crime, which only pulls them both deeper into the mess.
Your Honor season 1 premiered on Showtime on December 6, 2020, airing new episodes weekly until the series finale on February 14, 2021. Your Honor season 2 arrived a little under two years later, premiering on January 15, 2023, and concluding on March 19, 2023. However, a third season of Your Honor never followed, raising questions about whether the series was cancelled, and if not, why it ended.

Spoilers for Your Honor season 1 ahead.Your Honor season 2, episode 1, "Part Eleven" picks up right where season 1 left off, requiring any recap to cover the big points of the season 1 finale. Adapted from the Israeli series Kvodo, Your Honor season 1 premiered in December 2020 on Showtime, billed as a miniseries. The show earned middling reviews with a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's one of Bryan Cranston's best performances. Michael Desiato's decisions echo Walter White's from Breaking Bad, showing shades of gray in morality. Your Honor portrays a world where bad choices lead to unforeseen and harsh consequences for all characters. Michael orchestrates strategic moves to control the outcome of cases, blurring ethical lines in the process.

Of all the unofficial holidays derived from an apocryphal bit police code, 4/20 is by far the most enduring. And just as “420” has gradually become entrenched as stoner shorthand for marijuana, the date April 20 has become an opportunity not just for college kids looking to indulge in a little extralegal fun, but also for drug law reformers and other advocacy groups to stump for a more reasonable national attitude toward America’s big green weed of choice.
And as marijuana laws have shifted over the years—from outright prohibition, to limited medicinal usage, to tightly regulated recreational use within certain states—marijuana themed movies have likewise evolved. Once upon a time, the only movies that even touched the subject of pot were hysterical propaganda pieces like Reefer Madness. Then, from the 1960s onward, weed became a popular (and hip) subject of broad comedy—in everything from Animal House to Annie Hall to Friday.

There are a lot of befores and afters in television history. Before and after colour transmission, for example, or before and after live broadcasts. And then there are the shows that catalyse great changes: before and after Seinfeld, before and after The Sopranos, before and after Breaking Bad. It’s the last of these that we are still feeling the ripples from: whether it’s Ozark or Happy Valley, TV drama is currently dominated by men thrown in at the deep end, struggling for their lives. And there is no show that takes this more seriously than the Bryan Cranston-led Your Honor.
As the second series opens, Adam Desiato’s death is still raw. His father, Michael (Bryan Cranston), has been impeached and seems to have taken the Unabomber as his grooming icon. He is approached by ambitious agent Olivia (Rosie Perez) who has the Baxter dynasty in her sights.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Your Honor, Season 2, Episode 1, “Part Eleven.”] It’s been over two years since viewers last saw Bryan Cranston‘s morally-compromised judge Michael Desiato on their screens in Showtime‘s thought-provoking drama Your Honor, and he made quite the return in Season 2’s dark premiere episode. As viewers may recall, Michael’s son Adam (Hunter Doohan) accidentally killed mobster Jimmy Baxter’s (Michael Stuhlbarg) son in a hit-and-run. Doing what he could to cover it up, Michael found himself in various precarious positions by the end of Season 1, and ultimately, his son was caught in the crosshairs after someone sought retaliation for events Michael helped take part in. Ashamed for his misdeeds, the premiere opens with Michael in prison, defeated and emaciated. Forced to have a feeding tube after refusing to eat, it’s clear the former judge just wants to die, but Rosie Perez‘s assistant U.S. attorney Olivia...

Uncover the mystery of where to watch Your Honor, a gripping drama about a judge who will cross any legal boundaries to protect his son.
In Your Honor, as Michael Desiato, Bryan Cranston finds himself in another leading role, this time playing a New Orleans judge who goes the extra mile to ensure justice is served in his courtroom. Acting more as an attorney than a judge, Michael makes it a point to question witnesses including police officers about their testimony when their stories don't add up. In one instance, he goes so far as to visit the scene where an alleged crime occurs and discovers that an officer's first-hand account of drug activity isn't credible because of the home's layout. When his son, Adam played by Hunter Doohan, suffers an asthma attack while driving and hits and kills another young man on a motorcycle, Michael shows the same devotion...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Your Honor, Season 1.] A few months after Showtime‘s Bryan Cranston-led drama, Your Honor concluded, the series was renewed for a second season. While this kind of news may excite viewers of most shows, the reveal was a little baffling considering Season 1’s ending. The show centered around Cranston’s Michael Desiato, a respected judge from New Orleans who finds himself in a sticky situation when his son Adam (Hunter Doohan) is involved in a hit-and-run accident. The victim of the hit-and-run happens to be the son of Michael Stuhlbarg‘s Jimmy Baxter, a much-feared crime boss whose wife Gina (Hope Davis) is out for blood following the tragedy. Throughout the season, Michael’s morality is tested as he does everything he can to protect his son while his ethics as a judge are pushed to the breaking point. The case will be closing on Your Honor, it has been revealed.
Series star Bryan Cranston confirmed the news that the hit Showtime drama will conclude with its forthcoming second season.
“I am [currently] preparing for the second and last season of Your Honor, which is a limited series that I did for Showtime,” Cranston shared on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
“As they tell me, it got higher ratings than any other series they’ve ever had — and so, one more season of that.”
The news is a little bit surprising, especially when you consider the success of the freshman run.
Then again, the series was initially conceived as a one-season limited series, but Showtime announced a renewal almost a year ago.

In December, Showtime debuted Your Honor, a harrowing crime drama starring Bryan Cranston in a role that brought the actor his eighth Golden Globe nomination.
The 10-part series, executive produced by The Good Fight’s Robert and Michelle King and The Night Of’s Peter Moffat, centers on Michael Desiato (Cranston), a prominent New Orleans judge whose son Adam (Hunter Doohan) accidently kills another teenager in a hit-and-run collision.
When Desiato finds out what has happened, he immediately urges his son to turn himself into the police. He changes his mind, however, when he learns the victim of the hit-and-run was the son of local mob moss, Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg). The revelation leads him to dispose of evidence incriminating Adam. Naturally, the judge’s actions have tragic consequences.

Showtime’s legal thriller “Your Honor” opens with intense extended sequence that culminates in a horrifying car crash. It is not only one of the most visually arresting sequences on any series this season, but it was also aurally confronting, due in large part to Oscar-nominated composer Volker Bertelmann‘s hauntingly melancholy score.
For Bertelmann (otherwise known as Hauschka), “it was not ‘thriller’ music all the way through,” he explains. His priority was for the music to focus on the characters’ “inner tension,” which he says inspired many of the tracks he wrote for the show that endeavor to elicit feelings of dread and tension with the audience. Writer-Director John Lee Hancock is known for his muted and methodically compelling style of storytelling and his latest – conceived and sat on since the ’90s – is no different. A generic crime drama slow-burning its way to intensity, relying heavily on its stars, rather than the script, to bring the killer performances of delving into the male psyche and their shortcomings.
Denzel Washington, in his entire stoic splendour, takes on the role of Joe ‘Deke’ Deakins, a charming veteran detective turned cop due to a past career misadventure. On an errand to Los Angeles to pick up some evidence, he can’t help himself getting involved in a serial killer case headed by Rami Malek’s slightly arrogant and slick detective Jimmy Baxter. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Part Ten,” the series finale of “Your Honor.”
Showtime’s limited series “Your Honor” started with a horrific yet accidental child-on-child crime when Adam Desiato (Hunter Doohan) hit Rocco Baxter (Benjamin Wadsworth) with his car and then left the scene after Rocco had died in the street, so it seems only fitting that it would end with another. But, showrunner Peter Moffat tells Variety, that wasn’t always going to be the case.
“Originally the ending was going to be that Jimmy Baxter takes possession of Adam — that he owns him — and that’s the kind-of killing of Adam. While his father looks on, he loses Adam to his nemesis,” he says.
Instead, in the months Moffat had to sit with later scripts after production was paused due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he realized he wanted to bring Eugene...

If you recently watched the neo-noir crime thriller The Little Things, you might have questions about its symbolic open ending (and that red barrette). Following two law-enforcement officers, deputy sheriff Joe "Deke" Deacon (Denzel Washington) and lead detective Jimmy Baxter (Rami Malek), the film centers on a Los Angeles serial-killer case in 1990. After various unsolved murders are committed throughout the city, all following the pattern of women being stabbed to death, the police officers become suspicious of Albert Sparma, a man who works at a repair store near the crimes.
Deacon is an off-kilter police officer with hazy morals - a man who will stop at nothing to solve a case, even if that means breaking the rules of the justice system. We know a past unsolved case set his life into a tailspin, leading to a divorce and a heart attack. Once he sets his sights on Sparma as a suspect,...

The opening of John Lee Hancock’s The Little Things is pure adrenaline. A young woman minding her own business and rightfully bopping to the B-52’s “Roam”—and also making a nice homage to Buffalo Bill’s final victim in The Silence of the Lambs—is targeted by a mysterious driver who tries to run her off the road. Once cornered at a nearby gas station, the would-be victim is only able to escape by the skin of her teeth.
It’s all terrifying, partially because it likely has real world influences, and partially because the only thing she sees of her stalker is “cowboy boots.” The audience gets a better look at them than she does (as well as the duct tape he also collected from his trunk), but it’s not...

This The Little Things analysis contains spoilers. Read our spoiler-free review here.
The Little Things can be seen as a tainted police procedural with its murky ambiguity and troubling ending. But it’s also the story of a man for whom the allure of a charismatic serial killer goes too far. After all, serial killers make up less than one percent of homicides but they average a double-digit percentage of Hollywood crime films, and probably a majority of prison fan mail. What is it about these one-percenters we love so much?
Directed by John Lee Hancock, the supposed sociopath in The Little Things is Albert Sparma, a drifter who works as a repairman. Jared Leto is certainly magnetic in the part, serving Sparma up with a now-stereotypical “charismatic serial killer” vibe. But the Oscar-winning actor also brings an ambiguous energy to the part, suggesting he may merely be a serial killer groupie.

It will never not be strange that the true crime genre and its fictional counterpart — bloody genres besotted with dead and missing women, haunted detectives, outpourings of familial grief — are not only entertainment, but, for many, an ideal Friday night comfort watch. It’s not a moral question, really; detective stories are rabbit holes whose appeal, i.e. a search for the truths that make such horrors explicable, feels self-explanatory. The violence of these stories, the follies of the truth-seekers, the imminent danger — it all makes the barreling-forward toward discovery,...

John Lee Hancock’s “The Little Things” started out as a contemporary thriller. But since it took 20 years to come to the screen, it now amounts to a period piece, says costume designer Daniel Orlandi. The film is coming to HBO Max and theaters Jan. 29, but Hancock first mentioned the project to his frequent collaborator two decades ago.
The latest from Hancock stars Denzel Washington and Rami Malek as sheriff’s deputies in the 1990s on the trail of a serial killer. Orlandi went through a number of outfits to find the look that “makes the actor feel like the character.”
The murder trail leads Washington’s character, Kern County deputy Joe “Deke” Deacon, south. “He comes to Los Angeles, and he buys an outfit from a thrift store,” Orlandi explains. Initially, the designer had suggested a work jacket with a shirt, but it was Washington who helped put Deacon’s look together.

The bug-eyed psycho, especially when he’s portrayed by a skilled actor, is always good for a laugh, or a shudder, or something in between. It’s all about underplaying the overstatement. You’ve got to cue the audience to see that he’s cuh-cuh-crazy, but you’ve got to do it with just enough finesse to leave them thinking, “Is it all an act?” Jared Leto, who admittedly has had a lot of practice, knows how to give a state-of-the-art performance as the kind of diabolical screw-loose sleaze you love to loathe. He anchors the best sequence in “The Little Things” (a police interrogation), though another way to put that is that the scene raises the bar to a place that the rest of the movie can’t match.
Leto plays Albert Sparma, a piece of L.A. trash who looks like he’s halfway between a homeless person and Jesus.

Your Honor has the perfect protagonist-villain dynamic. New Orleans judge Michael Desiato (Bryan Cranston) is doing his best not to lose his son to the claws of both legal and street justice while crime lord Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg) has already lost his son and is seeking revenge. Michael also misses his dead wife while Jimmy is tired of his living one.

Bryan Cranston is back with the Showtime thriller Your Honor, playing a judge whose son finds himself in a bit of legal hot water. (Ok, a lot of hot water.)
Sunday’s premiere opens with New Orleans judge Michael Desiato (Cranston) jogging through a cemetery at dawn while his son Adam (Truth Be Told‘s Hunter Doohan) wakes up with a girl, played by The Mick‘s Sofia Black-d’Elia, cuddled up next to him in bed. After she leaves, Adam feeds the family dog his pills, grabs his asthma inhaler and drives off with a framed photo in tow.

But very quickly in the premiere episode that early morning excursion is explained as being a noble act: He went to the home of a woman who was being put on trial in front of him, to determine if the police officer testifying that he saw her hide drugs inside herself could have realistically seen...
