Non-mcu superhero movies often have post-credit scenes that fall flat, lacking execution or follow-up from studios. I had a chance to watch the first three episodes of the new Netflix limited series “Beef” last night, and it didn’t take long before I was hooked. It came inside of 10 minutes. Steven Yeun (as the suicidal contractor Danny Cho) and Ali Wong (as the wealthy but tortured boutique entrepreneur Amy Lau) are brilliant and deserving of all the praise that’s already been heaped upon them, and the narrative and production are irresistibly intriguing and discomforting. But what struck me was how quickly I forgot I was watching a production filled almost exclusively with Asian American actors. It all became rather seamless, even as the storyline alluded the players’ ethnicity.

The reception greeting the series that despite its title deals with beef mostly metaphorically (stemming from a road rage incident leading to an elongated feud that makes the protagonists feel alive) has been deservedly exalted, bolstered by major word of mouth.

Helen Mirren recently made her DC Extended Universe debut in Shazam! Fury of The Gods. The actor said she did a few of her stunts in the movie, resulting in a painful injury. However, Mirren refused to tell anyone on the set of Shazam! 2 that she had gotten hurt.

In the first Shazam! movie, a young Billy Batson is chosen by the ancient wizard Shazam to succeed him as his champion. Billy gains superpowers allowing him to transform into an adult superhero. He and his foster brother, Freddy, work to discover Billy’s new powers, and along the way, Billy shares his powers with his foster siblings, defeating the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

The long-awaited sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods recently premiered, and this time, Billy and his siblings have two extremely powerful celestials to defeat.

The story also had the subplot of young Billy Batson’s quest to find his mother after having been in foster homes his whole life, only to realize that the foster home he is in has provided him with the family he really needed by the end of the movie. Zachary Levi returns as Billy Baston/Shazam in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.” In the DC superhero sequel, a trio of vindictive sorceresses called the Daughters of Atlas — led by Helen Mirren as Hespera, Lucy Liu as Kalypso and Rachel Zegler as Anthea — want to avenge their father and take back the power of the gods they believe was stolen from Shazam and his crew.

What better metaphor for this series’ place in the DC Universe, a sprawling franchise that never quite cohered and is now getting a major retooling at the hands of new brass, do you need?

When Sandberg’s first “Shazam!” film arrived in theaters in March 2019, it was on the heels of massive box office successes like “Aquaman,” “Justice League,” and “Wonder Woman” — the salad days of what was then known as the DC Extended Universe — and a seemingly clever time to release the closest the Dceu had gotten to a standalone film for the younger set. The Shazamily is back, and on a much larger scale, but at its heart this superhero saga is still about family, and that’s the good thing here.

In 2019’s origin story (which goes way back to 1940 comics when the then-named Captain Marvel was introduced), a group of teens in a foster home, often bullied in school and going through life alone, bonded as a family and as their older superhero alter egos. That movie, from Swedish director David F. Sandberg, was a nice hit for the DC brand at Warners and even won over critics. So naturally we could expect a sequel, even as this comic book brand is undergoing major changes. Employing the same mix of humor and heart, but really amping up the super-heroics as it were, this second edition bodes well for its future in the uncertain DC Universe, at least in terms of delivering on what finicky fans expect.

For the first time in more than two years, the cast of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” reunited for the red carpet premiere of their insanely action-packed sequel. Complete with an arcade of pinball machines, video games, cornhole, lightning bolt photo ops and a Skittles bouncy house, the pre-party was pure unadulterated joy.

Hitting theaters on March 17, the film continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “Shazam!,” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.

Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.

“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” stars returning...

The second trailer for DC Studios’ “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” starring Zachary Levi and Asher Angel in their return as Billy Batson, aka Shazam, has arrived. This time, fans get a closer look at Helen Mirren’s turn as villain Hespera, one of the daughters of Greek god Atlas.

The sequel to 2019’s “Shazam!” will put a bigger spotlight on Batson’s foster siblings, who all have superhero powers and operate together as the “Shazamily” based out of Philadelphia. Rounding out the cast of siblings are Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ross Butler and Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Meagan Good and Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley and Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield.

Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler also star as Kalypso and Anthea, respectively, daughters of Atlas alongside Mirren’s Hespera. Djimon Hounsou will also be reprising his role as the wizard Shazam,...

When "Shazam!" hit theaters back in 2019, it was a breath of fresh air not only for the DC Extended Universe but for superhero media as well. While it obviously did have a big world-defining conflict that Billy Batson (Asher Angel and Zachary Levi) had to deal with, it was ultimately a coming-of-age tale all about becoming comfortable with yourself. You are able to create the best possible version of yourself, and that is perhaps best evidenced by the fact that Billy and his foster siblings can now fight crime as the Shazam Family.

Zachary Levi is returning to lead the cast for the upcoming film after making his Dcu debut in 2019's Shazam!, not only reuniting with much of the first film's cast as well as former horror director David F. Sandberg and screenwriter Henry Gayden. Following multiple delays due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, production on Shazam! Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg explained why Billy Batson's superhero family has a silly name. Released in 2019, the original Shazam! film saw Batson (Asher Angel) granted special powers by the last remaining to become Shazam (Zachary Levi), an older super-powered version of Batson. Outmatched by Dr. Thaddeus Silva (Mark Strong) and the Seven Deadly Sins, Batson transferred his power to his adoptive family and transformed them into a superhero team.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Sandberg admitted that Batson's superhero family has a silly name in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The director explained that family is a major thematic focus of the upcoming film and that their hometown has given the sibling team the name Philly Fiascos due to their bumbling crime-fighting ways. The trailer appeared to a hyped up crowd during Warner Bros. Pictures’ theatrical panel in Hall H at the San Diego Comic Con 2022. Zachary Levi, Director David F. When visual development artist Chris Appelhans (“Coraline”) realized that “Aladdin” was originally a Chinese folk tale while visiting Shanghai 20 years ago, he had an aha moment about writing and directing an animated genie-in-a-bottle retelling set in modern Shanghai. The result is “Wish Dragon” (streaming Friday on Netflix), an American-Chinese co-production with Sony Pictures Animation, in which working-class college student, Din (Jimmy Wong), teams up with pink, fluffy, snarky genie, Long (John Cho), to reunite with his long-lost childhood friend, Lina (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), now a famous model.

As Appelhans watched a friend in Shanghai “struggling with family and class and concepts of success, it seemed like that timeless [‘Aladdin’] story… about a peasant boy who lives with his mother, meets a wish-granting genie, falls in love with a princess, loses himself, and finds himself again, could have newfound relevance today,” he said. “It made me think a lot about the world.

All the signs are pointing to a live-action Batman Beyond movie finally happening, after fans have been campaigning for one for years. Two hit comedies are coming together! Deadline reports the casts of Kim's Convenience and Fresh Off the Boat are virtually uniting in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

A TV show, Kim's Convenience follows a Korean-Canadian family who run a convenience store in Toronto. The cast includes Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Jean Yoon, and Andrea Yang. Meanwhile, the comedy Fresh Off the Boat follows a Tawaianese-American family as they move from Chinatwon in Washington D.C. to Florida to open a Western-themed restaurant. The virtual event presented in partnership with Seed&Spark is set for May 30 at 6pm Pt/9pm Et and will raise funds for Asian non-profit arts organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
