Amid rumors that Marvel is in the process of casting a new actor to play T'Challa (Jr.?) for Black Panther 3 and beyond, we may now have confirmation that the McU's current Black Panther will return for the studio's next big event films.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Letitia Wright will reprise her role as Shuri for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
This wouldn't exactly be a massive surprise, but there is talk of the new T'Challa playing a part in Doomsday, so it'll be interesting to see if Shuri plays a significant role in the story or simply shows up to pass on the mantle of Wakanda's protector to her nephew.
At the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri meets the son T'Challa had with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), and finally allows herself to stop mourning her brother's death by burning her funeral robes.

"We lost our grandma! Who loses their grandma?!" Disney+ has revealed the official trailer for a comedy movie called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip, a sort of spin-off / remake movie inspired by the original Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day movie. The iconic book that this is based on (written by Judith Viorst) was also turned into a cheesy Disney movie in 2014 that got pretty bad / mixed reviews. This next one follows a Mexican American family who have recently lost their connection to each other and their roots, as they embark on an epic road trip that immediately goes hilariously wrong. The new comedy, which stars Eva Longoria, Jesse Garcia, Paulina Chávez, Rose Portillo, Cristo Fernández, Harvey Guillén, Mabel Cadena, Michelle Buteau, and introducing Thom Nemer, with Cheech Marin (hell yes), is directed by Marvin Lemus and written by Matt Lopez.

Last month, a rumor did the rounds that Marvel Studios was planning to recast the role of T'Challa, bringing a new actor in to play the McU's original Black Panther five years after the death of Chadwick Boseman.
The original report stated that Marvel is "looking to recast its Black Panther hero T'Challa ahead of the two Avengers movies and Ryan Coogler's Black Panther 3," but we would later hear that studio was actually in the process of casting an actor for the role of Black Panther's son (also named T'Challa), who was introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever.
Marvel's VP of Production & Development Nate Moore was asked about the possibility of a new T'Challa being introduced during an interview with ComicBook.com, and while he did initially appear to debunk the reports, it doesn't sound like the idea has been completely dismissed.
“The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors.

Although we still don't know for certain that Marvel Studios is searching for an actor to play a new take on T'Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the recent rumor has led to several names emerging as potential contenders.
Cross star Aldis Hodge was not among them, but does seem to be the most popular choice to suit-up as Black Panther among a lot of fans.
Hodge - who played Hawkman in Warner Bros.' ill-fated Black Adam movie - hasn't weighed in on the possibility of taking over from the late Chadwick Boseman, but did express interest in playing the hero way back in 2012 prior to Boseman being cast.
"Growing up, I was a fan of Black Panther and X-Men comic books. I was also a huge Batman fan. There’s recently been a little buzz online about Marvel pushing for Black Panther, and I’ve been in love with the idea for years.

Black Panther: Damson Idris Reponds To Rumor That He Turned Down Marvel's Offer To Play New T'Challa

As expected, the recent report that Marvel Studios' is currently searching for an actor to take over from the late Chadwick Boseman as a new take on T'Challa in the MCU has led to several names being churned out by the rumor mill.
Damson Idris, the up-and-coming British Snowfall star who was reportedly up for the role of John Stewart in Lanterns prior to Aaron Pierre landing the gig, was said to be one of the actors who passed on the opportunity to play T'Challa, and was asked about the rumor on social media.
Idris jokingly responded (though not everyone picked up on the sarcasm) that he also "turned down 007, A co-lead film with Daniel Day Lewis and an Eddie Murphy biopic."
Yes sir. I turned down 007, A co-lead film with Daniel Day Lewis and an Eddie Murphy biopic too.

Earlier this week, we shared a rumor that Marvel Studios might be planning to introduce a new take on T'Challa to the MCU.
The initial report (via Jeff Sneider) suggested that Kevin Feige and co. were searching for a new actor to play a variant of the same character the late Chadwick Boseman portrayed, but it seems more likely that the studio is actually in the process of casting an actor for the role of the original T'Challa's son, who was introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever.
Whatever the case may be, it appears quite a few actors believe that accepting the role would be akin to replacing Boseman, and either feel it would be disrespectful to the beloved actor, or simply don't want the responsibility of filling those particular shoes.
We have already heard that one actor declined Marvel's offer to play the new T'Challa, and it sounds...

Earlier today, we reported on a rumor that Marvel Studios might be planning to introduce a new take on T'Challa to the MCU.
It was generally assumed that Kevin Feige and co. were searching for a new actor to play a variant of the same character the late Chadwick Boseman portrayed, but this may not be the case.

The studio is said to have met with a few actors already, and one would be "sure to piss people off" if he landed the part (take from that what you will).
The 2022 sequel concluded with Shuri (Letitia Wright) meeting her nephew, the son T'Challa had with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o).

Five years after the death of Chadwick Boseman, Marvel Studios may be planning to introduce a new take on T'Challa to the MCU.
There was a lot of debate about how the studio may intend to proceed with a sequel to Black Panther following Boseman's tragic passing back in August of 2020, and the decision was ultimately made to forge ahead with Wakanda Forever and have another character take up the mantle.
T'Challa's little sister always seemed like the most obvious choice, and Shuri (Letitia Wright) ended up honouring her late brother and mother (Angela Bassett) by suiting-up as Wakanda's new protector.
While the majority of fans felt that this was the most respectful way to proceed, some hoped to see a new actor in the role of T'Challa, and it seems Kevin Feige and co. now agree that enough time has passed.

A complicated rights issue prevented Marvel Studios from introducing Namor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for many years, but the aquatic anti-hero finally made his debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Narcos actor Tenoch Huerta played the character, who started out as an enemy of Shuri (Letitia Wright), before forming an uneasy alliance with Wakanda's new protector towards the end of the movie.
Last year, Huerta was hit with sexual assault allegations by saxophonist María Elena Ríos, who accused the actor of being a "sexual predator" in a series of Tweets.
The story was picked up and widely circulated online, and Huerta later released a statement (via Variety) categorically denying Rios' claims and calling them “false and completely unsubstantiated.”
“About a year ago, I dated Elena for several months,” Huerta wrote. “It was entirely consensual at all times, as countless others can attest. And throughout it was a loving, warm and mutually supportive relationship.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally brought Namor the Submariner into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the character underwent some significant changes, with Atlantis swapped out for Talokan and his origin story rooted in Mayan legend.
While not everyone was happy about that, it went a long way in helping to differentiate Namor from DC's Aquaman.
Thanks to Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders (who has spent the past year working on Disney's Tron: Ares), we have a new look at some sequences which didn't make it into the Black Panther sequel's final cut.
That includes a clash between Ironheart and Namora. "The script originally called for an extended battle between [Riri Williams] and [Namora] that would have taken them underwater," Saunders says. "It was inevitably cut to keep the focus on [Shuri] and [Namor], but gave me the opportunity to paint some dynamic shots."

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Mabel Cadena reveals she hasn't heard anything about Namora's future in the MCU, but she wants to continue playing the Talokan warrior. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduced a new corner of the MCU with Talokan, led by Namor. The people of Talokan proved to be dangerous when their safety was threatened, armed with vibranium, impressively harsh battle tactics, and the ability to breathe underwater. When their home was threatened by the world's search for vibranium, following T'Challa's revelation about Wakanda's resources, they blamed Wakanda, expecting the once-isolated nation to help keep their secrets.
Talokan is led by Namor, with his two warriors, Namora and Attuma, supporting his decisions and leading the charge against invaders at his side. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Cadena shared her hope of continuing to play Namora, one of the leaders of Talokan, in the MCU. She also explained...

Mabel Cadena reveals she nearly broke Kate Winslet's record while training for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever underwater scenes. Both Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Avatar: The Way of Water introduced water-based societies and featured numerous underwater scenes. To prepare the actors for these scenes, the filmmakers had them train with professionals to hold their breath for long stretches of time while filming.
During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Cadena discussed her underwater immersion training for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She shared how quickly she was able to pick it up. Cadena also explained that her competitive nature came out, which motivated her to aim for Winslet's record.
Mabel Cadena: My first immersion was around 30 seconds, and the same day I [was able to do] six minutes and thirty-five seconds. The training was amazing, because in the same day I can have a big difference [from] my first immersion to my second immersion.

Warning: Spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverThe McU's Phase Four closed with a bang in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Director Ryan Coogler and everyone else involved in the film were faced with the Herculean task of honoring the late Chadwick Boseman's legacy, finding a new way to continue the Black Panther franchise, and expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe all in one fell swoop. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever succeeded on all fronts, and even managed to bring a new favorite faction into the MCU in the process.
A major highlight of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was the introduction of Namor, played by Tenoch Huerta, the underwater city of Talokan, and the Talokanil people. In addition to further integrating mutants into the MCU, Namor and his people were presented as deeply sympathetic and rounded, with direct cultural ties to Mesoamerican culture. A standout member of Namor's entourage in the film was his cousin Namora,...

According to a new piece of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever concept art, the location of the movie's final ocean battle scene was originally quite different. After directing the first film in 2018, Ryan Coogler returns to continue the story in the sequel, which was released to positive reviews from audiences and critics last month. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sees the return of characters like Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Ramonda (Angela Bassett) who, along with the nation of Wakanda, mourn the loss of King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman). In addition to Namor (Tenoch Huerta), the sequel also introduces Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), aka Ironheart, who finds herself fighting with Wakanda against Namor's underwater army.
The final fight in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever between Wakanda and the army of Talokan takes place on a large Wakandan water vessel, but a recently-shared piece of concept art from artist Phil Saunders reveals that the location was...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has never celebrated women more than it does in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Despite the earth-shattering loss of Chadwick Boseman, who played King T'Challa, the titular character of 2018's Black Panther, and appeared in three other MCU titles, no other corner of the franchise was better equipped to shine a brighter spotlight on its supporting cast — many of which are women. The McU's sixth-highest-grossing film introduced compelling female characters such as Okoye (Danai Gurira), the Dora Milaje's general, Nakia, a savvy spy and T'Challa's romantic partner, Princess Shuri (Letita Wright), T'Challa's brilliant-minded sister and Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), T'Challa's mother. In a franchise so often defined by male heroes, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever breaks new ground by elevating female characters in T'Challa's absence, which could revolutionize the McU's representation of women on the big screen.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" sees Danai Gurira once again becoming the "bald-headed demon" and Dora Milaje leader, Okoye. You've seen Gurira slicing and dicing zombies; now, she's fighting blue merfolk. They're not *really* mermaids and mermen, though we can certainly hope to someday see an Okoye vs. the Little Mermaid crossover.
No, the merfolk-type people Okoye is battling in "Wakanda Forever" are the fearsome water warriors, the Talokanil, led by Namor (Tenoch Huerta). If Namor himself can be regarded as the General Zod of this equation, then his lieutenants, Namora (Mabel Cadena) and Attuma (Alex Livinalli), might correspond to Ursa and Non, the secondary villains in "Superman II."
In /Film's forthcoming interview with Gurira, she discussed her preparations for Okoye's bridge fight with Attuma in "Wakanda Forever." And she told us they involved some injuries, followed by physical therapy:

One week into it’s worldwide release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has spawned a multiverse of conversations surrounding grief, fate, honor and duty — all themes that add new texture to viewers’ understanding of both the singular hero’s journey and the multiplied power of community. Having grossed more than 400 million worldwide to date, the film is at once deeply present, and Afrofuturist while dwelling in the past; the immediate invocation of the ancestors and portrayal of inherited traditions guide the sequel’s cast of characters in the absence of the late Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa) in order to carry the next generation forward.
When reflecting on her preparation for the role of Nakia, Lupita Nyong’o tells The Hollywood Reporter she had to face the task she was given, “which was of a woman who was at a different stage of accepting the loss than I was.

Few films in the 21st century have made as large of a cultural impact as “Black Panther.” A sequel was inevitable, but Chadwick Boseman’s tragic death put the creative team in a seemingly impossible position. How do you continue a franchise without its titular star?

Boseman, and his character King T’Challa, is felt throughout “Wakanda Forever.” But the filmmakers decided an outright funeral scene was needed.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is caught between two worlds. That's nothing new for a movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where audiences are frequently whisked off into space or transported to separate dimensions a la the multiverse — but this movie does things a little differently. No wizard portals or futuristic ships are required because we never actually leave the planet Earth. Instead, the people of Wakanda come to realize that they aren't the only super-advanced vibranium-hoarding country on the planet.
In revealing itself to the world, Wakanda has made an enemy of a society that preferred to exist in the shadows. Or better yet, in the depths of the ocean, where no one was the wiser.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever beautifully honored the passing of Chadwick Boseman, while also establishing a strong foundation for the future, both in and out of Wakanda. That includes Talokan thanks to the phenomenal performance by Tenoch Huerta as Namor who finally gets to say the word "mutant" in the MCU.

It took over eighty years, but at long last one of Marvel’s original characters, Namor the Sub-Mariner, has finally made his cinematic debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an unprecedented success story in filmmaking, a unique experiment in crafting an interconnected universe with dozens of characters and some great stories. But for all its features, the MCU doesn't have a great track record when it comes to its villains. Sure, some are great — like Thanos, the mighty conqueror with some good points that had the internet debating whether he did anything wrong. There's also Zemo, the charismatic mercenary with some rather good taste in music and some good points that had the internet debating whether he did anything wrong. Oh, and who can forget about Killmonger, the charismatic mercenary with some good points that had the internet debating whether he did anything wrong. Other than them — and the "Spider-Man" villains — anytime we had a half-decent villain in the MCU, they died as soon as they were introduced.
That changes with "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

“It was incredibly difficult.” That is how Letitia Wright (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) describes the moment she learned about Chadwick Boseman‘s death in August 2020 from colon cancer. Wright recently spoke out at a Q&a following a SAG Awards screening of the new Marvel Studios blockbuster alongside co-stars Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livinalli and filmmaker Ryan Coogler, moderated by Rotten Tomatoes’ Jacqueline Coley.
“I remember just that moment of going to my phone and seeing every possible American number calling me,” Wright recalls about that tragic and confusing day. “I went to my email and someone was saying, ‘My condolences.’ And I’m like, my condolences for what? I just spoke to you last night about a script, why are you emailing me that? Coming out of my email, I saw my team, my representatives at the time saying, ‘Do you want to write something about Chad?...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” now playing in theaters.
Plenty of new and returning Marvel characters are back for Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” but there are two major, surprising cameos that avoided being leaked ahead of the sequel’s release.
Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Angela Bassett’s Queen Ramonda and Danai Gurira’s Okoye help lead the nation of Wakanda, which is missing its Black Panther and King T’Challa after star Chadwick Boseman’s tragic death from cancer in 2020. Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Ayo (Florence Kasumba) and Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman) are also back, and the film introduces new faces with Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams, a.k.a. the superhero Ironheart, Tenoch Huerta Mejía’s underwater villain Namor and Michaela Coel’s Wakandan warrior Aneka.
Toward the end of the movie, “Black Panther” fans were...

Mabel Cadena breaks down why it was important for her and Tenoch Huerta to infuse their performances as Namora and Namor in Black Panther 2 with aspects of Mexican culture. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduces Namor's hidden underwater kingdom into the MCU. In Marvel Comics, Namor's kingdom is the well-known Roman-Greco-inspired Atlantis, but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever changed the origins of Namor and his people, who now make their home Talokan.
This change not only differentiates the McU's underwater nation from Aquaman's Atlantis, but it also creates the perfect foil for Wakanda. The nations have vastly different histories with colonization, which informs their very way of life, including why each decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world. During Screen Rant's exclusive interview with Cadena, she talks about working with Huerta to bring elements of their culture into their performances. She breaks down how this was an...

Over the past few years, Marvel Studios has strived to tell more diverse stories, pulling not only from the rich lore of their comics but also from the history of other cultures. Marvel Cinematic Universe stories such as "Eternals," "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," and "Ms. Marvel" are deeply rooted in the cultures and traditions of people from around the world. The celebration of different cultures is front-and-center in the newest film in the MCU: "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
The first "Black Panther" film received acclaim for its story and world-building, and was the first Marvel Studios film with a Black director and predominantly Black cast. With "Wakanda Forever," Coogler uses his skills to tell the story of another underrepresented minority in the MCU. At the forefront of the film and its marketing has been the opposing force against Wakanda, Namor, and his underwater nation of Talokan.

The character of Black Panther, as played by the late Chadwick Boseman, was first introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2016 film "Captain America: Civil War." That film was about a conflict between two factions of superheroes over whether or not superpowered freelance vigilantes should be allowed to continue their regular operations without oversight. Black Panther, aka T'Challa -- then the prince of the fictional country Wakanda -- teamed up with Iron Man in the conflict, arguing that oversight was indeed required.
Those themes of a superhero community operating within a larger, global system extended into Ryan Coogler's 2018 film "Black Panther." In that film T'Challa became king of Wakanda, a country that rests on top of a store of magical metal called vibranium. The metal allowed Wakanda to become a technological paradise, but their rare resource also made its rulers tetchy about participating in world activities. The entire...
