It’s back for round 3. YouTuber Phil Dickens aka AKblackandred and Will Penkeyman of Resident Evil Central have announced the 2024 edition of The Horror Game Awards will take place on Saturday, December 14 at 4pm Et, and will once again stream on The Horror Game Awards YouTube channel.
The aim of The Horror Game Awards is simple: to celebrate horror as one of the best genres in video games, and to recognise the year’s greatest horror games alongside the developers who make them. Winners of their respective category will receive a coveted claw trophy complete with bloody embellishments.
There are 16 categories this year, with five new additions. Presenters of the awards are content creators and industry professionals, such as the voice of the Resident Evil 4 remake’s Leon Kennedy, Nick Apostolides, and creator of both Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol, Glen Schofield. The full roster includes senior game writer & narrative designer Anna C.

2022 was a landmark year for horror media across the board. From theater screens to home consoles, we’ve been blessed with plenty of quality content during these past 12 months. However, with tentpole releases piling up as gamers struggle with their ever-expanding backlogs, we thought that this would be the perfect time to organize the major releases of the year in a single comprehensive list so that readers can sort out their horror gaming priorities.
That’s why we’ve decided to rank the 10 best major horror games of 2022, as even the most devoted of horror hounds might need a little help keeping up with the bountiful harvest of scary media from this past year. And while this is a ranked list, I’d argue that every single title here deserves a playthrough – so remember that even our last placed entry is still worth checking out!
As usual, we’ll be following a couple of rules.

Supermassive Games is diving once again into horror with its upcoming project, which will no doubt please fans of their recent efforts in The Quarry, and in the ongoing The Dark Pictures Anthology.
Speaking with Video Games Chronicle, Supermassive Games studio director Will Byles stated that the team’s next horror project will be about the same scale as The Quarry, with a targeted release of 2025 or 2026. “We’ve started working on [the next game]. I can’t really tell you very much at all about it, but we have started. Again, it’s the same sort of horror genre, we’re sticking to that. It’s equivalent in size to The Quarry… and that’s about as much as I can say without giving too much away.”
Byles did allude to what can be seen as a departure from what Supermassive Games had done with their horror games in the past. “I...

With a resume that reads like a horror geek’s ultimate movie marathon, Ted Raimi has been making unforgettable contributions to the genre for decades. From his brother Sam Raimi’s beloved Evil Dead films to classics like Candyman and The Grudge, he’s just about seen and done it all when it comes to horror. But when he signed on to join the cast of The Quarry, Supermassive Games’ latest entry in their signature line of choose-your-doom horror games, he stepped into a project that felt entirely new.
“It’s like nothing I’ve ever done before,” Raimi tells Den of Geek. “On other games I’ve done before, developers will create characters based on images of you, and then you come in later and just voice the thing. But for The Quarry, my castmates and I were on set, interacting with each other in real-time. All of the...

There’s a lot that goes into the script for narrative horror titles by Supermassive Games, and The Quarry is no exception. IGN sat down with the game’s director, Will Byles, to chat about the game’s story, and its 186 endings. And no, that’s no typo. Clocking in with a script at over 1000 pages, the story […]

Developers: Supermassive Games and Sony Computer Entertainment. Director: Will Byles. Writers: Graham Reznick, Larry Fessenden, Justin Villiers, Will Byles and Pete Samuels. This writer and gamer is continuing to catch-up on some of the exclusive releases on the PS4. Until Dawn, a horror survival game, was originally released just over a year ago (August 25th, '15). Developed by Supermassive Games and Sony Computer Entertainment, the game plays out much like a horror film as you control up to eight characters. Your decisions decide on whether each character survives. This game also allowed this player to use "motion controls" for the first time. This experience had its highs and lows. As well, the game introduces you to a psychoanalyst. He will question you and out your fears. The more you tell him, the scarier the game becomes. Meanwhile, you will need to search under every rock, to determine what happened to...

Have you played Until Dawn yet? It’s great, isn’t it? There’s nothing quite like being essentially placed in the directors chair of a horror movie and being given the power to decide who lives and dies based on the choices you make. Supermassive Games have surpassed many expectations with the success of Until Dawn – even Sony – but they’re not stopping there.
Speaking in a recent interview with Game Informer, Until Dawn’s creative director Will Byles stated that there are “many other genres” that his team can tap into and successfully adapt into the same formula used with the interactive horror game. Byles further stated that: “[the development team] has been going all out to make Until Dawn the best of its kind across the board and we are definitely going to develop that theme with out next projects.”
Byles also thanked the fans for the positive response Until...
