In 1984, Milos Forman brought Amadeus to the big screen in an epic tale of secrets, scandals and buffoonery amongst the world of esteemed musical composer Wolfgang Mozart. The film was based on the 1979 stage play by Peter Shaffer. The UK broadcast network, Sky, has been developing a new TV series adaptation of the play in the past few years, and the ball is now rolling with the casting of the story’s central figure. The synopsis of the show, per Deadline, reads, “Adapted from Peter Shaffer’s stage play, Amadeus is set within the musical hub of bustling Vienna at the end of the 18th century, as the 25-year-old titular character arrives in the city no longer a child and determined to carve his own path. If police drama remains the bedrock of British TV commissions, with 2022 having welcomed crime series Karen Pirie, Marlow, Magpie Murders, The Responder, Sherwood and many more, broadcasters also gave us a glittering seam of new fantasy and horror. Last year saw a host of new British supernatural and sci-fi series, from Joe Barton’s sci-fi action-thriller The Lazarus Project and the criminally since-cancelled YA Netflix fantasy The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, BBC Three teen horror Red Rose, Sky dark comedy The Baby, as well as a new telling of John Wyndham’s spooky children classic The Midwich Cuckoos.
Then there were shows that combined both threads, such as Amazon Prime’s mind-twisting The Devil’s Hour starring Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine, and Pete Jackson’s excellent debut Somewhere Boy. And some new British TV shows didn’t even feature a single murder, like Netflix’s adored Heartstopper graphic novel adaptation.

Exclusive: London-based Lark is one of the buzziest new boutique film and TV agencies in Europe.
The company was quietly set up by former Troika Director Harriet Pennington Legh in 2020 but gained momentum this year with the addition of former Casarotto and 42 rep Sophie Dolan and longtime Independent Talent agent Roxana Adle. Exiting bigger agencies usually comes with some bumps and bruises (and temporary no-press gags) but the trio took the plunge and are now reaping the rewards.
Together, the three UK agenting dynamos now lead Lark and join a new wave of vibrant UK rep businesses that launched a decade ago with 42 and most recently spawned B-Side Management, which opened shop last year.
Lark’s list is curated and cerebral but also fresh and increasingly acclaimed. The stable of global writers and filmmakers includes Sebastián Lelio, Joanna Hogg, Ritesh Batra, Karim Aïnouz, Shannon Murphy, Maria Schrader, Oliver Hermanus, Ali Abbasi,...

The upcoming season of Sex Education will be without Rakhee Thakrar. The actress, who played teacher Emily Sands in the Netflix dramedy, confirmed to Daily Star Sunday that she will not be returning for Season 4.
“I’m not part of the new series. I can’t really talk about why,” she told the publication, adding “But I’m so proud of the show and grateful to have been part of something so important. There is nothing bad about Sex Education.”
Deadline has reached out to Netlix for comment.
Thakrar follows the recent exits of Tanya Reynolds, who portrayed Lily since the series’ launch, Patricia Allison (aka Ola) who played Lily’s romantic interest, and Bridgerton‘s Simone Ashley, who announced her departure earlier this year. Thakrar also is an original cast member on the series.
“It’s just the natural progression of these shows,” Reynolds told UK’s Radio Times in an interview last month.

As has been pointed many times so far this year, 2022 has been a treasure trove for stories about con artists. In the TV world, spring brought plenty of stories chronicling how people in the recent past have hoodwinked their way to enormous wealth and cultural cachet purely by virtue of lulling the right people into a false sense of security. Of course, 2010s tech and entrepreneurial climbers do not have a monopoly on grift, in worlds either real or fictional.

Twelve years after the launch of Instagram, it’s hardly news that no one’s life is really as blissful as it looks on their carefully curated feeds. Yet as Becky (Erin Doherty) can attest, it can be difficult to remember that when you’re stuck in a run-down two-bedroom flat on the unfashionable side of Bristol with your ailing mother, poring over snapshots from the much prettier, posher life of someone you used to know.
In fact, it’ll take most of the six hourlong episodes of Chloe for Becky to learn just how messy and troubled the life of her childhood friend Chloe Fairbourne (Poppy Gilbert) really was. But if the series ultimately offers few revelations we haven’t seen before, they’re still ones that ring more or less true, especially with Doherty’s mesmerizing performance at the center.

Warning: contains major spoilers for the Chloe finale
The latest buzzy drama from the BBC is Chloe, from creator Alice Seabright, a deliciously twisty six-parter which sees a young woman in Bristol become obsessed with a woman she follows on Instagram and insinuate herself into that woman’s social circle after she is found dead. Only it’s not as simple as that… Over the course of the series Chloe messes with our perceptions of who is doing what, and why, as our protagonist Becky Green – ostensibly a con woman, turns out to have more complicated motivations at heart.
By the end of the show all is revealed – or rather as much is revealed as can ever be when we are talking about human emotions and drives. You can never truly know who someone really is or what they were thinking, which is a big theme of this drama.
So where does that leave us?...

As Mipcom rolled on at Cannes, U.K. public service broadcaster BBC held a preview of its upcoming scripted titles for journalists at an event on Monday presided over by Piers Wenger, director of BBC Drama.
A hot button topic of discussion in recent weeks has been the matter of “distinctively British content.” Hours before he was removed from office, John Whittingdale, then Minister for Media and Data, told the Royal Television Society convention at Cambridge that the government intended to introduce a White Paper that includes a requirement for such content.
“If it’s set in Britain and made in Britain by our public service broadcasters, then it should be distinctively British,” Whittingdale had said.
These proposals were rubbished during a BFI London Film Festival event last week by “Succession” writer Lucy Prebble and “His Dark Materials” and “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” writer Jack Thorne.

On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled the trailer for “Sex Education” Season 3, which will premiere Friday, September 17. Created by Laurie Nunn, the hourlong series hasn’t released a new episode since January 2020 (due to pandemic-related production delays); the wait, as they say, makes the anticipation for the new season all the more intense.
The series’ Season 3 synopsis reads:
It’s a new year, Otis (Asa Butterfield) is having casual sex, Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam (Connor Swindells) are official, and Jean (Gillian Anderson) has a baby on the way. Meanwhile, new headteacher Hope (Jemima Kirke) tries to return Moordale to a pillar of excellence, Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) discovers feminism, Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) gets a crush, and a lost voicemail still looms. The good days at Moordale High appear to be well and truly in the past.
Netflix has dropped the full-length trailer for Sex Education Season 3, and the new headmaster (played by Jemima Kirke) appears to be all about embracing change.
She's clearly been given the job of clearing up the school's image after it being declared "Sex School" following a string of very public controversies.
Hope sets out to change quite a bit about the school, including giving the students uniforms, painting over lockers, and among other wild things.
There's even a woman in one of the classes yelling at the students that sex is bad. Make of that what you will.
We also delve deeper into the complicated relationship between Otis and Maeve, who has clearly not been around each other since the whole deleted voicemail at the end of the second season.
Speaking of Maeve, it looks like...

Sex Education returns to Netflix later this year, and there will be some big changes.
Netflix unveiled a promotional video for Moordale High, which shows the students promoting the school under the order of the new headmistress.
Hope's plan is to get the school back on track, and it's clear that some of the students are struggling with a camera on them.
One of the most surprising moments shows Jackson putting his hand on Hope's shoulder, possibly teasing him having a crush on the new headmistress.
The purpose of the clip is to get people to "Choose Moordale!"
But, will the school be able to bounce back?
"It’s a new year, Otis is having casual sex, Eric and Adam are official, and Jean has a baby on the way," reads the official description.

Amazon Studios has announced that it will co-produce BBC psychological thriller Chloe, and the six-part series has set a cast that includes The Crown star Erin Doherty.
Produced by Mam Tor Productions, run by former Cuba Pictures cofounder Tally Garner, Chloe was originally announced by the BBC in February 2020 and is created and written by Sex Education director Alice Seabright.
It centers on the character of Becky, who becomes obsessed with the death of her estranged friend Chloe. Becky assumes a new identity to infiltrate the enviable lives of Chloe’s closest friends as she attempts to establish what happened.
Through her alter-ego Sasha, Becky becomes a powerful, transgressive heroine; a popular, well-connected “someone” with a life, and loves, that are far more exciting and addictive than the “no one” she is as Becky. However, the pretense soon obscures and conflates reality, and Becky risks losing herself completely.
