"Mr. Prime Minister, something has to be done... we're going covert." Well Go USA has revealed an official trailer for an action movie called Invasion, also known as Invasie in Dutch. This is made by a filmmaker named Bobby Boermans from the Netherlands. It's a very jingostic film about the Dutch military trying to deal with an attack on one of its territories. Way too many films like this these days – almost if they're trying to condition people into thinking this is the only way to respond. When neighboring rogue country Veragua suddenly attacks Curaçao & Aruba, the Dutch government is taken totally by surprise. The conflict escalates rapidly. Three young Dutch Corps recruits must figure out what is the right thing to do. Will they be able to save the day? The action cast includes Tarikh Janssen, Gijs Blom, Ortál Vriend, Jasha Rudge, Fedja Van Huêt, Gijs Scholten Van Aschat,...

"Keep your head down, Dutchman." Epic Pictures Group has revealed the official US trailer for a Dutch / German production called The Forgotten Battle, a WWII action thriller movie about a big battle in The Netherlands. It's now set for a VOD release in the US starting in August this summer - not hitting theaters at all. It's 1944, during the Second World War. The Allies have captured the port of Antwerp but the Germans still control the Scheldt estuary. A British glider pilot, a Dutch boy fighting on the German side and a Dutch female resistance member all end up involved in the Battle of the Schelde. Their choices differ, but their goal is the same: freedom. Their choices will shape destinies, impacting not only their freedom but also that of others. Starring Gijs Blom, Jamie Flatters, and Susan Radder. This already opened in The Netherlands and most of Europe in 2021, debuting online,...

The Netflix original fantasy series The Letter for the King debuted in 2020, but the streamer has yet to release a season 2. Based on the novel of the same name by Tonke Dragt, The Letter for the King follows a young squire who is tasked with delivering an important message to the king, who lives across the perilous mountains. Offering a more family-friendly alternative to fantasy shows like Game of Thrones, The Letter for the King is an example of Netflix's growing young adult programming and continues its long line of high-profile genre series. The Dutch and British co-production blended its fantasy elements with broadly appealing coming-of-age tropes.
While the show stuck faithfully to the beloved Dutch novel, the series received a mixed critical reception (via Rotten Tomatoes) from the English-speaking world. Despite that, season 1 of The Letter for the King snagged six Daytime Emmys, including Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Single Camera Editing.

Jessica Alexander, who starred in the recent psychological horror movie A Banquet (pictured above) and the dystopian thriller Glasshouse, is now playing the lead role in Fallen, a supernatural series being made for the Brazilian streaming service Globoplay. Fallen is now filming, and given the fact that most of the cast are not Brazilian I have a feeling the show is going to be available on other services than Globoplay at some point.
Alexander’s co-stars include Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), Gijs Blom (The Letter for the King), Timothy Innes (The Last Kingdom), Josefine Koenig (My Name Is Josy), Lawrence Walker (The ReZort), Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness (Days of the Bagnold Summer), Laura Majid (Five), Courtney Chen (FBI: International), and newcomers Esme Kingdom, Maura Bird, Samantha Bell, and Julian Krenn.

Five bored young billionaires become vampires in “Dead & Beautiful,” a middling horror-thriller and social satire that opens with an intriguing premise but never probes its cashed-up characters deeply enough to create gripping drama from the heightened hedonism or existential crises they experience after acquiring new powers. Slickly photographed in a neon-drenched Taipei and featuring an attractive young cast, this riff on the eternal tale by Dutch filmmaker David Verbeek scores early points by drawing parallels between mythological vampirism and the modern metaphorical vampirism of rich elites before losing its sting and meandering toward an unsurprising “surprise” conclusion. After notching appearances at festivals including Rotterdam, Sitges and Fantastic Fest, “Dead & Beautiful” releases Nov. 4 in North America and the U.K. on genre streaming platform Shudder.

What would you do if you woke up shortly before dawn, after a night of hard partying and strange rituals, to discover that there was a dead man nearby and you had brand new pointy teeth? Mason (Gijs Blom), Bin-ray (Philip Juan), Anastasia (Anna Marchenko), Alexander (Yen Tsao) and Lulu (Aviis Zhong) are among the richest young people in the world, trust fund kids from families with private fortunes in the billions. They habitually take it in turns to try and surprise one another with new experiences. This particular experience involved a trip into the jungle to participate in a mysterious native ceremony. Now all they can think of is that, just in case, they need to find shelter before the sun rises.
A hit with critics and audiences alike when it played at the Rotterdam Film Festival earlier this year, David Verbeek’s film concerns itself not-so-subtly with the monstrousness of.

Back in Rotterdam with his Taiwanese-Dutch production Dead & Beautiful, the IFFR regular David Verbeek had a world premiere of his genre-bending drama (which screened in the Limelight section) whose plot centers around five uber-rich young people and their attempts to feel real life by “taking turns”.
Dead and Beautiful screened at International Film Festival Rotterdam
The rules of the game are allegedly simple. “Turns” happen on weekends, when one of the five tries to impress the rest of the gang by organizing an unforgettable, unique experience. Any genuine emotion – extreme happiness, deep fear or immense sadness is a welcome reaction. But, it turns out that it’s very difficult to impress a billionaire, and almost impossible to impress four billionaires at the same time. Money alone isn’t enough to ignite fire in any of them, and the race for the best show begins.

As cinemas around the world close, never have we been more reliant on good new additions to the world of streaming, with most of us stuck indoors desperately wanting something new to indulge in. Well, this weekend Netflix are launching The Letter for the King, a brand new fantasy series about a group of youngsters who risk everything to deliver an important message to the monarch. To celebrate the release we took part in a unique press junket for the film, interviewing the cast via Skype, and from the comfort of our very own living room (excuse the bland wallpaper background). Watch both interviews below, the first is with Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (son of Andy), Thaddea Graham and Amir Wilson, while we then discussed this project with Dutch star Gijs Blom, who made us feel somewhat better as it seems he was chilling out at home as well.

Netflix’s The Letter for the King adapts Tonke Dragt’s classic fantasy novel as an awe-inspiring television series.
The Letter for the King is a Netflix fantasy offering that, in the recent wake of The Witcher’s popularity, seems so abundantly tailor-made for transitional viewing that it won’t require any of its famed algorithms for a suggestion.
Much like The Witcher, Netflix’s The Letter for the King is based on a book, in this case key female fantasy writer Tonke Dragt’s 1962 Dutch novel, De brief voor de Koning, an acclaimed, million-plus-selling quasi-medieval story about a young squire who becomes entrusted with the delivery of the titular memo, on which the fate of the entire kingdom hangs. The book – reprinted frequently and in several languages – has been adapted for musical theater and had a 2008 movie adaptation released in its native Netherlands.

Netflix continues to push into local content, producing its first Dutch film, war drama “The Battle of the Scheldt,” in partnership with local broadcasters and other backers.
Alain de Levita is producing the Dutch-Belgian picture through his Levitate Film banner. It will be in movie theaters in the Netherlands in November 2020, and on Netflix – where it will be branded as a Netflix Movie – in the U.S. and the rest of the world. Production is about to get underway on the $15.5 million war film, which will be helmed by Matthijs van Heijningen, Jr.
Set in late 1944 and shot in Dutch and English, the film centers on the bloody but crucial battle that claimed 10,000 lives but secured supply lines for the Allied forces’ push to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany. It follows the lives of three people involved in the conflict: a young Dutchman fighting for the Germans, a stray English...

In honour of National Coming Out Day on October 11, we’ve been thinking about a lot of our favourite Lgbt movies. From the modern-day rom-coms like “Love, Simon” all the way back to hard-hitting dramas like “Midnight Cowboy” – and everything in between – we’ve been debating which movies are our all-time favourites.
In light of this, I’ve put together my own personal list of my favourite Lgbt films – ‘my’ and ‘personal’ are the operative words here. This list is entirely my own opinion and personal preferences, this is not a definitive ranking of what are ‘the best’ Lgbt films. Merely, this is a list of which films resonated with me the most.
But please, join in the debate in the comment section and tell us about your favourite Lgbt films and why – and whether or not you agree with my own list. You may think I’m right, you...
