Green and Gold explores resilience through a story set on a Wisconsin dairy farm in 1993. Buck Strom (Craig T. Nelson), a determined farmer struggling against economic challenges, faces potential foreclosure. He makes an unlikely bet on the Green Bay Packers—a wager that transcends financial concerns and speaks to resistance against change.
The story examines complex ideas: What defines the value of tradition? How can one respect history without becoming trapped by it? Director Anders Lindwall presents these reflections with genuine emotional depth.
Lindwall crafts his feature debut with restrained skill, allowing visual landscapes to communicate as powerfully as dialogue. Cinematography captures rural Wisconsin in warm, golden tones, transforming the setting into an almost mythical space where determination might reshape destiny.
Nelson delivers a nuanced performance, capturing Buck’s complex character with remarkable subtlety. Madison Lawlor’s character Jenny, conflicted between agricultural roots and musical aspirations, creates emotional tension. M. Emmet Walsh...

No Other Land, Academy Award-nominated for Best Documentary Feature, opens today in New York at Film Forum from mTuckman Media/Cinetic Media with a limited theatrical expansion next weekend.
The doc is written, directed, produced and edited by a collective of Palestinian and Israeli activists and filmmakers — Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. It premiered at Berlin, winning Best Documentary, followed by a widely decorated festival sweep. It sits at 100% with Critics on Rotten Tomatoes (57 reviews). Deadline’s Matthew Carey interviews the filmmakers here.
The release started circulating against the backdrop of the brutal Israel-Hamas war, currently in a period of ceasefire. It predates the war but explores root causes of enmity as the filmmakers chronicle the Israeli military’s incremental expulsion of the West Bank community of Masafer Yatta — home to 20 ancient Palestinian villages.

Craig T. Nelson is an extremely fine and too often underappreciated actor, and it’s difficult not to be at least mildly impressed by his absolutely fearless lead performance in “Green and Gold.” In director Anders Lindwall’s ponderous and predictable drama, he plays Buck, a debt-ridden Wisconsin dairy farmer who’s way too proud and tradition-bound to change his ways, and ultimately so desperate that he literally agrees to bet the farm in order to save it. To put it bluntly, Nelson gives this clichéd indie a lot more than it ever gives him.
Buck is not always an easy man to like, and it’s obvious that neither Nelson nor Lindwall wants to make him any more likable than he has to be. Lean and leathery, with a stoic grimace as his facial expression of choice, Buck is a salt-of-the-earth guy who loves Margaret (Annabel Armour), his supportive...

"You still believe in what we're doing?" "More than anything,." Fathom has debuted an official trailer for a down home Americana drama called Green and Gold, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Anders Lindwall. This is opening in theaters nationwide at the end of January, a few weeks before the actual Super Bowl game in early 2025. Starring legendary and multiple Emmy and Golden Globes-nominated actor Craig T. Nelson as farmer Buck, joined in the cast by Brandon Sklenar, Annabel Armour, Madison Lawlor, and the late M. Emmet Walsh in his final performance. Lindwall's Green and Gold tells the story of a fourth-generation dairy farmer fighting to preserve his family's land and legacy against overwhelming odds and foreclosure pressure. Featuring music by Jackson Browne and S. Carey, the movie highlights the resilience of small-town America. A struggling family farmer wagers everything on a high-stakes Super Bowl bet in favor of...

The very first Make Believe Seattle festival took place last week and included a lot of stellar features. One that particularly caught my eye was Pursued. It is the new film from Jeffrey Obrow, known for 80s classics The Dorm that Dripped Blood and The Kindred. He’s back with a new thriller focusing on friends and strangers in the digital age.
When Lark (Madison Lawlor) learns that her mother (Molly Ringwald) is dating a new guy, she has mixed emotions. She’s happy that her mom is finally moving on after her father’s death two years before, but the whole idea naturally feels a bit strange. This is only compounded by the fact that she only learns about the relationship when Carol announces that she will be going away for the weekend with her new suitor. Lark cautions her mom, asking if she really knows this guy well...

The resistance will soon rise: A new Man in the High Castle teaser confirms that Season 3 will (finally) debut this fall.
The Amazon series was renewed in January 2017, with new showrunner Eric Overmyer (Bosch, Treme) at the helm. (Executive producer Frank Spotnitz abruptly departed the drama midway through production of Season 2.)
In response to rumblings that the show has already received a Season 4 order, Amazon tells TVLine there is “no news yet” on an early pick-up.

Exclusive: The Amara Cash-directed Daddy Issues will premiere at Outfest in Los Angeles July 14 and in this exclusive clip (watch above) the movie’s stars Madison Lawlor and Montana Manning get into an interesting discussion about being labeled as “straight” or “lesbian.”
Daddy Issues follows Maya (Lawlor), a talented queer artist on the verge of a first love that is more complicated than anything she could imagine. Maya spends her days escaping into her drawings and social media, where she cyberstalks the aspiring designer Jasmine (Manning) — who has a co-dependent relationship with a neurotic sugar daddy. When Maya and Jasmine’s paths finally cross, they begin a romantic relationship that provides Maya her dream of first love and Jasmine the inspiration she needs to jump start her career. It’s all gumdrops and fairytales until a bizarre love triangle soon emerges, all because of “daddy issues” — hence the title.

At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, TV is invading the schedule in a whole new way. The Park City film fest has previously dabbled in what’s possible on the small screen, but this year marks the launch of the Indie Episodics section — which will spotlight TV pilots that mostly lack mainstream distribution.
The selections include “America to Me,” a new docu-series by “Hoop Dreams” director Steve James; as well as “The Mortified Guide,” a screen adaptation of the popular stage show “Mortified,” spotlighting the most embarrassing true stories of adolescence. There’s also “This Close,” showcasing star/creators Josh Feldman and Shoshannah Stern (both of whom are deaf), and “Franchesca,” featuring digital star and “The Nightly Show” writer/contributor Franchesca Ramsey.
This marks a major change for Sundance, and a renewed commitment to independent television. While Sundance has featured TV programming since the premiere of “Top of the Lake” in...
