Craig T. Nelson is an extremely fine and too often underappreciated actor, and it’s difficult not to be at least mildly impressed by his absolutely fearless lead performance in “Green and Gold.” In director Anders Lindwall’s ponderous and predictable drama, he plays Buck, a debt-ridden Wisconsin dairy farmer who’s way too proud and tradition-bound to change his ways, and ultimately so desperate that he literally agrees to bet the farm in order to save it. To put it bluntly, Nelson gives this clichéd indie a lot more than it ever gives him.

Buck is not always an easy man to like, and it’s obvious that neither Nelson nor Lindwall wants to make him any more likable than he has to be. Exclusive: Decker Sadowski (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Shane West are set to star in Katherine Dudas’ horror comedy Theater Is Dead. The film is also written by Dudas (Waking Up Worried), Sadowski, Olivia Blue (This Game’s Called Murder) and Madison Lawlor (Casa Grande).

Production for the film recently wrapped on Vashon Island, Wa.

Blue and Lawlor also star alongside Sadowski and West. The cast is rounded out with Jacob Nichols, Stephanie Suganami (Opus), Colin McCalla (Ruthless), Dylan Adler (First Time Female Director), Tammy Tavares (Days of Our Lives) and Julie Wittner (Acme Saturday Night).

The very first Make Believe Seattle festival took place last week and included a lot of stellar features. One that particularly caught my eye was Pursued. Amazon Freevee has announced that it will stream Casa Grande, a bilingual limited series that examines the everyday realities and conflicts between California’s migrant workforce and the landowners who reap the profits.

Created by Lauren Swickard (A California Christmas) and Ali Afshar, Casa Grande follows the intertwining lives of various families in the farmlands of Northern California and is described as an “upstairs/downstairs story transposed from turn-of-the century English countryside to rural America.” It stars John Pyper-Ferguson, Christina Moore, Madison Lawlor (Juniper), Karen Bethzabe (Babylon), Javier Bolaños (All American), Raquel Dominguez (Chicago Med), James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Kate Mansi (Days of Our Lives), Daniel Edward Mora (Coco), Loren Escandon (The Baxters), and Ali Afshar (He’s Just Not That Into You).

Amazon Freevee has landed the exclusive first-run U.S. rights to “Casa Grande,” a bilingual limited series that follows the tales of California’s hardworking, often undocumented migrant workforce, as well as the wealthy landowners in Northern California.

The series, which consists of five one-hour episodes, premieres May 1 on Freevee. Lauren Swickard (“A California Christmas”) and Ali Afshar created “Casa Grande,” which comes from Afshar’s Esx Entertainment shingle.

Series stars include John Pyper-Ferguson, Christina Moore, Madison Lawlor (“Juniper”), Karen Bethzabe (“Babylon”), Javier Bolaños (“All American”), Raquel Dominguez (“Chicago Med”), James Marsters (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), Kate Mansi (“Days of Our Lives”), Daniel Edward Mora (“Coco”), Loren Escandon (“The Baxters”) and Ali Afshar (“He’s Just Not That Into You”).

The resistance will soon rise: A new Man in the High Castle teaser confirms that Season 3 will (finally) debut this fall.

The Amazon series was renewed in January 2017, with new showrunner Eric Overmyer (Bosch, Treme) at the helm. (Executive producer Frank Spotnitz abruptly departed the drama midway through production of Season 2.)

In response to rumblings that the show has already received a Season 4 order, Amazon tells TVLine there is “no news yet” on an early pick-up.

Madison Lawlor and Mia Serafino (Shameless) have been cast as the leads of Juicy Stories, E!’s hourlong dramedy pilot inspired by Juicy Couture founders Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor, from Sex and the City alums Michael Patrick King and Amy B. Exclusive: The Amara Cash-directed Daddy Issues will premiere at Outfest in Los Angeles July 14 and in this exclusive clip (watch above) the movie’s stars Madison Lawlor and Montana Manning get into an interesting discussion about being labeled as “straight” or “lesbian.”

Daddy Issues follows Maya (Lawlor), a talented queer artist on the verge of a first love that is more complicated than anything she could imagine. Maya spends her days escaping into her drawings and social media, where she cyberstalks the aspiring designer Jasmine (Manning) — who has a co-dependent relationship with a neurotic sugar daddy. When Maya and Jasmine’s paths finally cross, they begin a romantic relationship that provides Maya her dream of first love and Jasmine the inspiration she needs to jump start her career. It’s all gumdrops and fairytales until a bizarre love triangle soon emerges, all because of “daddy issues” — hence the title.

At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, TV is invading the schedule in a whole new way. The Park City film fest has previously dabbled in what’s possible on the small screen, but this year marks the launch of the Indie Episodics section — which will spotlight TV pilots that mostly lack mainstream distribution.

The selections include “America to Me,” a new docu-series by “Hoop Dreams” director Steve James; as well as “The Mortified Guide,” a screen adaptation of the popular stage show “Mortified,” spotlighting the most embarrassing true stories of adolescence.
