Luke Perry starred in several movies during his beloved turn as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210, including the 1997 science fiction action blockbuster The Fifth Element. Set in the year 2263, the movie follows Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) and Leeloo (Mila Jovovich), who have a chance meeting and team up to save the world from destruction, as long as they can find four magical stones. Co-written and directed by Luc Besson, the movie also starred Chris Tucker and Gary Oldman.
Perry became known for portraying love interests in young adult stories, from Oliver Pike in 1992's Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Brenda Walsh and Kelly Taylor's partner Dylan on Beverly Hills, 90210. Grammy-nominated singer Janelle Monae dons an elaborate Halloween costume of Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element, one of the most iconic characters from the cult classic. Released in 1997, The Fifth Element grossed over 260 million at the box office and received polarized reviews from critics for its campy tone and over-the-top style. Nevertheless, the film's reputation has grown over time, and it has a dedicated following among sci-fi fans.
The Fifth Element follows Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) and he's made to work with the titular fifth element, Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) to recover the four stones that represent the four other elements that can stop a great evil that is threatening Earth. Along the way, they meet Diva Plavalaguna, an alien opera singer who has blue skin and an array of tentacles, who is guarding the stones. There are few movies like "The Fifth Element," in just about any sense. The 1997 film was based on a story French filmmaker Luc Besson wrote as a teenager, and it finally came to film when he was 38 years old. It's a unique and off-beat science fiction flick that has remained popular since its release. As Ruby Rhod might say, "Un-bah-lievable!"
The film is centered on Korben Dallas, a cab driver with a military background played by Bruce Willis (who had his own unique casting story), living in 23rd century New York City. With an ancient evil coming to destroy Earth, a group of aliens who possess the mythical "Fifth Element" have the power to stop the destruction. But when the ships carrying the Fifth Element are mysteriously shot down, scientists need to scramble to recreate the planet's savior from its remains. When the being they create makes a daring escape and falls into his taxi,...

This past spring came the news that not only was Luc Besson returning to the world of sci-fi, he was doing it with his long gestating dream project "Valerian." Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevinge have been tapped for the lead roles in the adaptation of of the celebrated French sci-fi comic series "Valerian," which tells the story of a pair of time-and-space-traveling special agents. And while the filmmaker is keeping plot details under lock and key for now, he did share a bit of what the vibe might be like. “It’s 'Mr & Mrs Smith' in space,” Besson told European press. “They’re super-agents who travel through time and space. They work for the Human Federation.” So it looks like our two young leads might have some friction between them, maybe not unlike the opposites attract chemistry of Korben Dallas and Leeloo in "The Fifth Element," but perhaps with a bit more antagonism.
