Some of the best TV shows ever faced multiple rejections before becoming hugely successful. It may be hard to believe, but many were even turned down a shocking number of times. Whether due to budget, a complex story, or a genre that felt too niche, they were considered too risky or too different from what audiences were used to.
However, they eventually found their place among the stars, showing that sometimes the most unexpected ideas can lead to incredible triumphs. In addition to great storytelling, stunning visuals, and all the other elements that make for a great series, the ace up the sleeve these titles had was doing things no one had done before. From HBO's The Sopranos to Netflix's Squid Game, these cases prove that it doesn’t matter how slowly one goes, as long as they don’t stop.

Last season of The Handmaid’s Tale started and ended with a look from star Elisabeth Moss.
The fifth season of Hulu’s hit dystopian series began with the smirk seen ’round the globe that pit June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) against Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski), and the season came surprisingly full circle when it ended with the same telling expression between the pair as they unexpectedly found themselves alone, yet together, on the same train of Gilead refugees hoping to make it to Vancouver and, eventually, Hawaii.
At the time of that November 2022 finale, Moss, also an executive producer and director on the Emmy-winning tale, told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s actually a pretty positive ending for the show and the season, which we don’t usually do. Apple TV+'s Foundation show began life as a series of books by legendary sci-fi author Isaac Asimov, but another project from the streaming platform could be part of the same, larger shared universe as Asimov's space opera. Although the Foundation books have been altered quite drastically to create the show, it's still somehow recognizably the same story. Asimov's worldbuilding and extensive lore have allowed for a great deal of flexibility during Foundation's adaptation process, and Apple TV+ has applied a huge piece of Asimov's canon to another project on its platform.
With Foundation season 3 confirmed and on the way, the show's next run of episodes will continue the centuries-long saga of war between the Empire and Hari Seldon's titular organization. Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale are in for a real treat. According to Elizabeth Moss we are in for some ‘big and wild’ things the season!
It is also the final season of the show, and according to her definitely has that “final season’s energy which probably means a lot of loose ends will be tied up, or not, but one can hope.
Moss plays June, the protagonist forced to serve as a handmaiden in this totalitarian state called Gilead that has overthrown the US government. June inspired a rebellion that is threatening to take down Gilead once and for all.
The Handmaid’s Tale Spoilers – How big is it?
At the end of Season 5 we saw June take a flight to Canada after leaving the refuge. Gilead’s uprising has continued to grow in her absence and the threat of it breaking is becoming more and more imminent each day.

Filming on the sixth and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” has, at long last, begun, Hulu announced on Friday. The network shared a photo of star Elisabeth Moss, who’s also directing and holding a clapboard, with the note that the Emmy-winning series will return in spring of 2025.
It’s been nearly two years since the Season 5 finale and a year-and-a-half since executive producers Erich Tuchman and Yahlin Chang were named co-showrunners for Season 6.
Longtime showrunner and series creator Bruce Miller stepped away from the drama after five seasons to focus on the development of its upcoming sequel series “The Testaments,” which like “Handmaid’s Tale” is based on the book of the same name by Margaret Atwood. It’s set 15 years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Miller is still involved with the final season as an executive producer and writer.

The final season of The Handmaid’s Tale is finally underway.
Hulu on Friday shared an image of series lead Elisabeth Moss holding a slate from the opening day of filming on the show’s sixth and last season. The slate shows that cameras began rolling on Sept. 3 — and that Moss is directing the first episode (she previously helmed six episodes across seasons four and five).
The Disney-owned streamer also said that season six will premiere in spring 2025, which will mean about a 2 1/2-year gap between the season five finale, which debuted Nov. 9, 2022, and the final season opener. Production on The Handmaid’s Tale had been scheduled to resume in fall 2023 but was pushed back as striking writers and actors negotiated for, and eventually won, better contracts with media companies. Lining up schedules for the show’s cast further moved the start date to this week.

The Handmaid’s Tale is officially back in production on its sixth and final season.
Hulu revealed Friday that cameras began rolling on the series’ conclusion on September 3, sharing a photo of series star Elisabeth Moss holding the slate for the first scene of Episode 1, which she will also be directing.
Along with the production announcement, Hulu also said that Season 6 will debut in spring 2025.
The final chapter of the Emmy-winning Hulu series originally was to begin production in 2023 for a fall 2024 premiere, but that schedule, of course, was delayed by the strikes.
Season 5 follows June (Elisabeth Moss) in the aftermath of Commander Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes) murder and the consequences she must face for her role in the gruesome slaying. At a minimum, she will have to face off with his widow Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), and on some level Gilead. But mainly, she will be forced to redefine her identity and purpose,...

Over the course of five seasons, we’ve watched June’s journey to escape Gilead in The Handmaid’s Tale. The series has certainly grown from what it originally started, which was about surviving this horrific world. It’s become one about the different individual journeys for handmaids, Marthas, and wives.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is officially the end. While the Hulu series is popular, it certainly needed to wrap things up. This is one that couldn’t just get an abrupt ending, and it needed time to plan the closure. That’s what it has.
Filming is only just starting up, and here’s what we know about this final season.

Based on the merits of its first two seasons, Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” was nominated for three of the four regular drama series acting Emmys, with its lone elusive category having been the supporting female one. Now, following its submission of seven featured ladies on the initial 2024 Emmy ballot, it has simultaneously scored a whopping four Best Drama Supporting Actress mentions, joining only three other series that have done the same or better.
The supporting actresses representing “The Morning Show” on this year’s final Emmy ballot are Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Karen Pittman, and Holland Taylor. Only Pittman has been part of the cast since the show’s inception, as Lee and Taylor first appeared in season two and Beharie was just added ahead of season three. Spoilers for all of "Orange is the New Black" ahead.
"Orange is the New Black" is among the most important shows of the 2010s. It was not only one of the first series to establish the binge model as a viable release format — for better or worse — but it was also groundbreaking thanks to its diverse cast and the massive range of storylines it juggled at any given time. At its best, the show was riveting, funny, heartfelt, and bold. At its worst, it was still a fun time.
Most notably, few shows have ever felt so distinct from season to season. Season 1 was the fun fish-out-of-water comedy centering firmly around Piper (Taylor Schilling). Season 2 was a riveting prison drama centered largely on the Black inmates like Taystee (Danielle Brooks), Poussey (Samira Wiley), and Suzanne (Uzo Aduba). Season 3 was a surprisingly relaxed, lighthearted period, while season 4 took a brutal turn in the other direction,...

Hulu's adaptation of The Testaments will differ from the book since The Handmaid's Tale show explores June's journey beyond the novel's ending. From Aunt Lydia's moral gray areas to the identities of The Testaments' other narrators, Hulu's Handmaid's Tale adaptation has already "spoiled" certain reveals. The Testaments could lead to a more tragic ending for June in The Handmaid's Tale season 6.
A sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, Hulu's adaptation of The Testaments will definitely differ from Margaret Atwood's book of the same name. Although Atwood wrote The Handmaid's Tale novel in 1985, she didn't pen a sequel to the dystopian classic until 2019 several seasons into Hulu's Emmy-winning Handmaid's Tale adaptation. The GLAAD Media Awards — set for May 11 at the Hilton Midtown — will honor Hudson with an excellence in media award while country artist Peck will take home a Vito Russo award. Hudson will receive the trophy for being an ally who has “made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.” She’ll join a roster of honorees that includes Marren Morris, Judith Light, Ava DuVernay, Patti Labelle, Debra Messing, Tyra Banks, Julianne Moore, Barbra Walters, Diane Sawyer and more.
“A multihyphenate talent who uses her platform and influence across media to support and uplift LGBTQ people, Jennifer Hudson’s allyship is thoughtful, loud and powerful,” said GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.

Actor exits can ruin a TV show if not handled well, like Steve Carell leaving The Office in season 7. Characters like Fiona Gallagher in Shameless were the backbone of their shows, leading to decline after their departure. Departures like Donald Glover in Community or Angus T. Jones in Two and a Half Men caused major impacts on the shows.
Losing a beloved TV show character was always tricky, but it was even more disappointing when an actor's decision to leave ruined their respective shows. Over the years, several TV shows have lost key cast members during their runs, whether that be because the character's storyline had come to a natural conclusion or their actor decided to step away for personal reasons or to focus on other projects. These departures were generally handled with grace and creativity, although there have been some TV exits that were totally out of character, such...

Exclusive: Monarch Media, 11-time Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Point Grey Pictures, Lylas Pictures and Giant Ant Films are teaming to bring Sarah Leavitt’s graphic novel Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mother and Me, to the big screen as a feature-length animated film.
Along with Louis-Dreyfus, the cast includes Abbi Jacobson, Bryan Cranston, Samira Wiley, Beanie Feldstein, Seth Rogen, Wanda Sykes, Bowen Yang, Pamela Adlon and Sarah Silverman.
In Tangles, when Alzheimer’s disease begins to strip away her mother’s vibrant personality, a headstrong young woman is forced to return to her oddball family in the conservative small town she recently fled in order to care for her. She quickly realizes she must accept the cruel and warped reality of the disease — and the imperfect beauty of her family — in order to become the daughter they need.
Leavitt adapted her novel for film along with Trev Renney and Leah Nelson.

Best Drama Supporting Actress is the only Emmy acting category “The Morning Show” has yet to crack, but it’s now the one the series could dominate like only one other show has managed to. Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Julianna Margulies, Karen Pittman and Holland Taylor are all eligible for the Apple TV+ drama in the category this year, and if they all make the cut, “The Morning Show” will join “The White Lotus: Sicily” as the only shows to nab five drama supporting actress nominations in a single year.
“The White Lotus: Sicily” set the record last year with bids for Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, Aubrey Plaza, Simona Tabasco and eventual champ Jennifer Coolidge. Before that, the record for a series in the category was four nominees in one year, which only two shows had been able to field: “Game of Thrones” in 2019 and “The Handmaid’s Tale” in 2021.

Comedy can enhance the impact of dramatic moments and make characters more relatable. Humor can break up the tone of a show and prevent it from becoming monotonous. Comedy can highlight the shortcomings and absurdities of characters, adding depth and entertainment value.
Even though some shows claim to be dramas, they are still much funnier than plenty of the comedies on TV. Great shows should be able to balance both humor and drama. Just as the best comedy TV shows should also tell compelling stories, the best dramas should be able to make their audiences laugh. Shows with a few jokes woven in are better equipped to retain people's attention, because humor can break up a show's tone and stop it from becoming too monotonous. Even if comedy isn't a show's main focus, it's often a good tool to have available.
