The 96th Academy Awards ceremony should be known as the Cannes Oscars, argues Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Frémaux.

Michael Barker, Sony Picture Classics co-chair, helped Frémaux out by adding in Martin Scorsese’s The Killers of the Flower Moon, which also premiered on the Croisette.

“Here we are in March, and the top winners at last year’s Cannes are still in the conversation, and are here at the Oscars,” says Frémaux, giving himself a pat on the back.

Julian Sands’ cause of death has been deemed “undetermined” following a coroner’s investigation, TheWrap has confirmed.

Sands, whose body was found by hikers on June 24, first went missing on Jan. 13 after failing to return from a hike. A public information officer out of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner Department confirmed the department’s findings to TheWrap on Monday.

“On July 21, 2023, the cause of death for Julian Sands was deemed ‘Undetermined,'” the officer said in a statement to TheWrap. “The cause is ‘Undetermined’ due to the condition of the body and because no other factors were discovered during the coroner’s investigation, this is common when dealing with cases of this type. This is the final determination.”

Sands was known to enjoy hiking and mountaineering and went missing during one of his trips. His family reported him missing on January 13 which led to a search and rescue to mission, including 80 personnel and volunteers. Ground teams were utilized, but were forced to retreat due to a risk of an avalanche from severe weather conditions.

After six months of searching, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office confirmed today that the human remains found earlier this week by hikers were, indeed, those of actor Julian Sands. He had been missing since mid-January.

On Sunday, human remains were found near a trail where actor Julian Sands went missing five months ago.

The body has been sent to the medical examiner for positive identification.

Sands was first reported missing in January after failing to return from his hike in the snowy Mt. Baldy area in the San Bernardino Mountains of California. His car was found, but no other clues of the actor’s whereabouts have been discovered.

On Monday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff posted on Twitter that they were continuing their search efforts for the 65-year-old. Videos accompanying the update show volunteers and deputies climbing into the helicopters used to locate Sands.

According to the police report, over 80 people participated in the efforts to find the star. Additionally, two helicopters and drone crews were also put to use.

A week has now passed since the 65-year-old Arachnophobia star’s wife, writer Evgenia Citkowitz, told authorities that her husband had disappeared while hiking alone in California’s San Gabriel mountain range, some 40 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
