To paraphrase Dan Olson’s excellent Nft video essay Line Goes Up, we’re going to have to deal with a lot of vocabulary and a lot of complexity in this review. Some of it will fill some of you with a nostalgic glow and some of it will sound like white noise and make your head hurt. After striking a deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and finally ushering the franchise into the $1 billion club, Deadline’s brought us the shocking news that Sony’s parted ways with Disney and is taking Peter Parker along with them.
According to the new report, the two studios were taking part in a financial stand-off, with the House of Mouse hoping to rake in half of the profits from any of Spidey’s future adventures. When Sony inevitably said no, they also removed Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige from producing the hero’s next two films in any capacity.
