Percy Jackson and the Olympians has found its Zeus for season 2 and beyond!
According to Disney, Courtney B. Vance has joined the cast to play Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Vance takes over for Lance Reddick, who starred as Zeus in the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Reddick died at the age of 60 prior to the release of the first season of the series on Disney+. We didn't get to see much of Zeus until the season 1 finale, but Reddick was incredible as the God of the Sky and the guy calling the shots for the Gods in his home of Olympus. Reddick's presence and energy in those key scenes with Percy (Walker Scobell) and Poseidon (Toby Stephens) set the tone of what's to come for Zeus and the rest of the Gods as Percy Jackson and the Olympians continue.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians has found its Athena. The Disney+ original series is an adaptation of the Rick Riordan book series of the same name, following the adventures of demigods Percy (Walker Scobell) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) - who are the children of Poseidon and Athena respectively - and satyr Grover (Aryan Simhadri). The upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, which adapts the 2006 book The Sea of Monsters, has already added several new cast members, including Daniel Diemer as Percy's Cyclops half-brother Tyson and Tamara Smart as Thalia, the daughter of Zeus.

She shared that she "cant wait to bring her to life and work alongside such talented actors.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians season 2 gets a new update from author Rick Riordan, who reveals how much filming has been completed. “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” has officially cast Percy’s half-brother Tyson. Daniel Diemer will play him in Season 2 of the Disney+ series.
Series creator Rick Riordan announced the news himself in a video message to those in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con, during the show’s Hall H panel on Thursday. Diemer also filmed a video message expressing his excitement to join the show as the cyclops.
Diemer is best known for playing Paul Munsky in Netflix’s “The Half of It,” and most recently starred as Scott Bentland in “Under the Bridge” alongside Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough.
Season 2 of the “Percy Jackson” adaptation will follow the second book in the series, “The Sea of Monsters.” In the books, Percy learns that he has a half-brother only when he goes on a quest for the golden fleece. Because Poseidon fathered Tyson with a nymph, Tyson is actually a cyclops.

To say that The Big Bend is set in the American desert is technically true but also a wild understatement. The stark and unsettling beauty of West Texas, with its cliffs and canyons and ghost towns, isn’t mere backdrop to this well-observed drama; it infuses the movie on a molecular level. Brett Wagner’s atmospheric feature — which has begun its theatrical journey a couple of years after playing the fest circuit — revolves around a holiday get-together that proves anything but relaxing for two couples and their school-age kids. With its mixture of laid-back intimacy and stressed-out intensity, the story pushes the characters out of their not-so-comfortable comfort zones and into an uncharted territory that’s variously tantalizing, terrifying and forgiving.
The pull of mystery and adventure is there from the get-go, in the traveling shot that opens the film: a view through the windshield of a car moving down a two-lane highway.

Presumed Innocent is Apple TV+’s latest series and a must-watch for legal drama fans. Created by Big Little Lies and Boston Legal‘s David E. Kelley, Presumed Innocent is based on a 1987 novel of the same name by Scott Turow; the book was adapted in 1990 with a film of the same name directed by Alan J. Pakula from a screenplay co-written by Frank Pierson and J. Pakula with Harrison Ford playing the leading man Rozat K. “Rusty” Sabich.
Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent follows the story of Rusty Sabich, a Chicago city prosecutor and a family man who becomes the prime suspect of a colleague’s murder, with whom he had an affair. Where the film showed us this story in completely black and white, the series adaptation plays around in the greys and doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to prove anyone innocent. So, if you...

In a couple of months, it will be a year since we lost the late, great Lance Reddick. His passing was a shock as it came so suddenly, and at a time where he had incredible works on the horizon. We haven’t even seen the last of his work as he’s due to make a cameo appearance as his John Wick character, Charon, in the spin-off Ballerina. He can recently be seen in the Disney+ show, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, where he fittingly portrays the Greek God, Zeus. Reddick would finish filming the first season just before his untimely passing.

The relationship between Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull) and Poseidon (Toby Stephens) has always been a little complicated – as one would expect a romance between a mortal and a Greek god might be. Thanks to a pact formed by Poseidon and his brothers Zeus and Hades, he was never supposed to fall in love with Sally and he definitely was never supposed to have a son with her. Because of this pact, and Poseidon’s nature as a god, this meant a future without the traditional happily ever after that a romance of this magnitude might elicit in other tales. However, just because Sally and Poseidon don’t get a fairytale ending doesn’t mean that their relationship isn’t an important part of the story.

Percy Jackson completed his quest.
The season finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians finds the title character (Walker Scobell) confronting two powerful Greek gods, sharing emotional scenes with both of his parents — and discovering that there might be more challenges to come. In keeping with the structure of The Lightning Thief, the Rick Riordan novel that’s the source material for this season, the finale showcases several high-stakes scenes that all feel like climaxes to the story, only to build to another big moment.
First, Percy faces down Ares (Adam Copeland) in hopes of retrieving Hades’ helm and preventing an all-out war among the gods and its disastrous consequences for humanity. After successfully taking on the god of war — with a little help from the sea — he travels to Olympus to return the master bolt to Zeus (Lance Reddick, in one of his final acting roles before his death...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the season finale of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” now streaming on Disney+.
The first season of the long-awaited “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series on Disney+ has come to a close, and it ended the same way Rick Riordan’s first book did: Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) part ways before the school year, knowing that they’ll reunite in the not-so-distant future with a bit more world-saving to do. But the journey to get there was often unpredictable, even for fans of the novel.

All of these questions and more will hopefully be answered in the season finale, so here’s what you need to know before diving into episode 8 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

The references to The Wizard of Oz in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7 have a deeper parallel to the character of Hades in the Underworld. The line "We're not in Kansas anymore" is used by both Sally and Percy to highlight the reality and unfamiliarity they face when entering the world of the gods. The reveal of Hades in the Underworld mirrors the reveal of the Wizard in The Wizard of Oz, showing that Hades is not as terrifying as he is perceived to be.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians episode 7 reveals a tragic flashback that humanizes Poseidon's connection to his family. The scene showcases the raw and painful emotions experienced by Poseidon, Sally Jackson, and Percy, highlighting their visceral connection. The depiction of Poseidon's yearning to connect with his son allows the audience to see him as a fallible god with relatable human feelings.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Toby Stephens explains the emotional family tragedy behind Poseidon and Sally Jackson's (Virginia Kull) flashback in episode 7, "We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of." Walker Scobell leads the Disney+ show based on Rick Riordan's series of novels, which focuses on the titular Percy discovering his demi-god heritage in modern America. Stephens portrays the Greek God of the Sea and Percy's father, though ancient laws forbid him from ever making contact with his son. In Percy Jackson & The Olympians episode 7, the show revealed...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 7, “We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of.”] Toby Stephens‘ Poseidon made his long-awaited debut in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 7, streaming now on Disney+. The scene was a departure from the source material but a welcome one as it teed up next week’s finale with an incredibly exciting cliffhanger. Poseidon made his first appearance in a flashback with Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull). In it, Sally has summoned Poseidon to a restaurant where she and young Percy (Azriel Dalman) have just gotten into a fight over Percy’s new school. The stress of caring for Percy on her own has gotten to Sally, so she calls on her ex to show up for her and their son. She can’t talk about the truth about Percy’s life with anyone. Even if they believed in demigods and the rulers of Olympus, revealing Percy’s whereabouts ...

Toby Stephens‘ Poseidon will make his series debut in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 7 on Tuesday, January 23, on Disney+. Viewers will finally meet the sea god in a flashback scene with Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull), a moment specially created for this series. Readers meet Percy Jackson’s father when the demigod does in The Lightning Thief book. The creators’ desire to improve upon the original story in the TV adaptation led to the creation of the Sally and Poseidon flashback we’ll see in Episode 7, “We Find Out the Truth, Sort Of.” Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson franchise and series co-creator/writer/executive producer, tells TV Insider that “it’s so important to us to use this new format to its best advantage, which means getting to see things that happen in the story, but not from Percy’s point of view.” “In the books,...

Things are getting tense for our young trio of heroes in Percy Jackson and the Olympians as they continue to make their way across the U.S. Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) have narrowly escaped death not once, not twice, but three times in the short time since they left Camp Half-Blood to find Zeus’ missing master bolt. Time is running out, and the trio still hasn’t figured out who took Zeus’ powerful weapon, or why it was stolen in the first place.
With somewhat safe transportation to the west coast secured, and the promise of help from his father once they get to California, Percy and his friends push forward on their quest, despite the dangers that likely await them in the Underworld.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians is adding a Poseidon scene to provide insight into his relationship with Sally, something that the books don't delve into deeply. The inclusion of the Poseidon and Sally scene will shed light on Percy's father and potentially highlight the positive qualities of the gods, who are currently portrayed negatively. After the changes made to the Medusa storyline, a Poseidon and Sally scene is needed to offer a different perspective on Poseidon and allow viewers to form their own opinions.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians is exploring storylines and characters from Rick Riordan's best-selling books in more depth, and the Disney+ show is adding a much-needed Poseidon scene, which comes as a relief after its recent Medusa changes. Although Disney's Percy Jackson show is a far more faithful adaptation of Riordan's story than the movies, its TV format and modern perspective allow it to improve upon certain aspects of the source material.

Medusa's portrayal in Percy Jackson challenges Annabeth's belief in Athena and highlights their shared experience of being wronged. Athena's reaction to receiving Medusa's head exposes her flawed nature and shows the gods' key failures. Athena's treatment of Annabeth reinforces one character's late-season argument about the gods' unfitness to rule.
Known as the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena's not-so-gracious reaction to her demigod daughter in Percy Jackson and the Olympians' fourth episode actually helps prove season 1's secret "villain" right. In Percy Jackson season 1, episode 3, the show's titular demigod (Walker Scobell) and his companions, fellow demigod Annabeth Chase (Leah Jeffries), and the satyr protector Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri) stumble upon Medusa's (Jessica Parker Kennedy) Garden Gnome Emporium. Even though her domain is littered with stone statues of her past victims, Percy Jackson's Medusa changes the Greek myth's story, painting the gorgon as a survivor who was wronged by Athena and Poseidon — Annabeth and Percy's respective parents.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians introduces Medusa as a more tragic figure, highlighting her terrible backstory and fate. Medusa's encounter with Percy, Annabeth, and Grover reveals the gods' part in her transformation into a Gorgon. Percy's decision to send Medusa's head to Mount Olympus continues her mistreatment by the gods.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians teases Medusa in its premiere and trailers, but the Disney+ series finally introduces the Gorgon in episode 3 — and her fate calls back to a heartbreaking Sally Jackson line from the first installment. Staying faithful to the events of Rick Riordan's books, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover come across Medusa on their journey to retrieve Zeus' Lightning Bolt. For fans of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” books, Medusa represents one of Percy’s first big victories: After being tricked into spending time with “Aunty Em,” he beheads the snake-haired woman, and her cursed, dead eyeballs are later used to turn another enemy into stone.
But for those with a deeper knowledge of Greek mythology, and for many women, Medusa is a symbol of something darker.
In many tellings of the original myth, Medusa is a human woman who takes a vow of celibacy out of devotion to Athena, the goddess of wisdom. However, Medusa eventually enters a relationship with sea god Poseidon that becomes sexual one night. Some interpretations, beginning with the Roman poet Ovid’s,...

Percy Jackson & the Olympians fixes the shortcomings of the movies by accurately capturing the magic of Rick Riordan's book series. The show improves Percy Jackson's mother, Sally Jackson, by conveying her depth, bravery, and compassion better than the source material and movies. The show's changes to Sally's character, as well as the portrayal of her relationship with Percy, make her a more likable and compelling character.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians does an impressive job of bringing Rick Riordan's books to the small screen, and the Disney+ show fixes one book character in 30 minutes after two movies failed her. In general, the Percy Jackson movies get a lot wrong about the source material. This article contains spoilers for episodes 1 & 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Sally Jackson has always been an important character in the Percy Jackson books. As the mother of a demigod, she’s had to give up a lot in order to keep Percy safe. And yet it’s very clear that she wouldn’t have it any other way. She loves Percy with her whole heart, and has raised him to be compassionate, caring, and brave.
But while the books do a great job of showing us just how important Sally is to Percy’s journey, the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians takes their bond as mother and son even further. Even though Percy may get some cool powers and divine connections from his dad Poseidon (played by Toby Stephens in the series), the show makes it abundantly clear that Percy is who he is because of Sally.

They say never to meet your childhood heroes. Even the fictional ones don’t always hold up — problematic creators, disappointing endings, stories that don’t stand the test of time — and the inevitable adaptations of those juggernaut stories risk falling flat and failing to capture the magic of the original.
But fans of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson” novels — both new and old, as there is sure to be an uptick — can rejoice in the knowledge that “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” now streaming on Disney+, is more than worthy of its source material and the massive mythology behind it. Riordan himself co-created and executive produces the series along with Jon Steinberg, the pair of them extensively involved in production and writing. For adults who discovered Percy back in 2005 or new generations joining the quest with time to spare (a seventh novel is slated for 2024 publication), this hero is one worth meeting.

[This story contains spoilers for the first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+.]
To say that devoted readers of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Disney+ series based on them would be a Titan-sized understatement. A decade-plus after a pair of movies based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling novels left a bad taste with fans (and the author), the series, which Riordan co-created and executive produces, began streaming Tuesday night.
Disney+ also moved up the premiere by a few hours, dropping the first two episodes at 9 p.m. Et/6 p.m. Pt Tuesday — a day before the show’s previously scheduled debut. (The first episode will also stream on Hulu through the end of January.)
The show wasted little time in getting into the story: By the end of the first episode, Percy (Walker Scobell) had been kicked out of school, learned he’s the son of a Greek god and a mortal...

Like Showtime’s recent Dexter: New Blood or USC football’s freshly hired new defensive coordinator, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians comes with a deceptively simple mandate: Just be better than the thing that came immediately before.
Christopher Columbus’ 2010 feature Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was so bad — and, more specifically, the film was such a misconceived adaptation of Rick Riordan’s Greek mythology-fueled novel series — that Disney+’s series need only “come closer” in order to succeed.
And it does!
With Riordan co-creating along with Jonathan E. Steinberg, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a generally faithful approach to the books. It carefully targets a younger demographic, honoring what’s likably relatable in the source material and delivering a dose of fantastical whimsy, all while making very few outrage-worthy changes.
Is that the same, mind you, as being a good show? Only occasionally.

The Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films ushered in a wave of fantasy novel adaptations in the early 2000s. These included movies like the Chronicles of Narnia films and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The star of the two Percy Jackson films, The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters, Logan Lerman, has been vocal about his support of the new Disney+ series, which adapts the novels into multiple episodes for the streamer. Recently, Lerman appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and continued to display his excitement of the show.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Lerman told the podcast host Josh Horowitz, “The show looks amazing. I can’t wait to see you all crush it in your roles. You’re making a lot of people happy bringing these characters to life.” Lerman singled out the show’s lead, Walker Scobell, who take up the mantle of Percy Jackson,...
