It’s a nicely balanced story mixed with shootouts, explosions, and great hand-to-hand combat.

Jake, an Army Ranger, was brought onboard to carry out a rescue operation in Afghanistan in 2021, disguised as a member of a medical relief team along with other female American soldiers. A group of school students, all daughters of American ambassadors and foreign ministers, were abducted from a school in Pakistan. The kidnappers, headed by Isis leader Amir, demanded ten million dollars for each student, as well as the release of Sheik al-Shimali. While most of the students were American, the former Afghan Minister of Education’s daughter, Badia Durani, was also among those abducted. Badia’s mother was convinced that her daughter would be the first to be beheaded and that Isis would use her to force the Americans to come up with a way to pay for the release of their daughters.

But that was the first season; after that, Kate was replaced as the protagonist and the show cast a new lead. Initially, it was reported that actor Ruby Rose had departed from the show of her own will, on friendly terms with the studio, just a week after the first season wrapped up.

The cast of The Meg was a big reason for the shark movie's box office success when it was released back in 2018. A loose adaptation of the book, Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten, the film follows a group of scientists who encounter a 75-foot-long Megalodon shark while on a rescue mission to save a trapped research station called the Mana. Posing a threat to both the scientists and the people on land, Jason Statham's Jonas Taylor and his team must face off against this gigantic beast in a confrontation that is equally silly and entertaining.

At the time, The Meg was the most expensive shark movie ever made (via THR). While the film received mixed reviews, that investment paid off as it earned $529 million at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), a large part of that coming China, where the film is most popular.

There are a lot of things that make John Wick great, but Willem Dafoes role in the original film established the franchises penchant for bringing in scene-stealing guest stars to round out the cast. When John Wick was first released in theaters in 2014, no one expected it to launch a blockbuster franchise that could go toe-to-toe with Marvel and Fast & Furious. But the seeds of a potential franchise were there. The revelation of a fancy hotel chain that caters specifically to the assassin community teased the impressive worldbuilding that the John Wick franchise has been built on.

Above all, what audiences love about this franchise is the characters. The title character has become a mythic figure in pop culture, revitalizing Keanu Reeves career, but there are plenty of fascinating supporting players around him, too. Winston gave John a lovable, if morally questionable father figure, while Charon gave him a close friend to confide in.

Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer and poster for the action thriller Dirty Angels, which reunites Casino Royale director Martin Campbell and star Eva Green.

The film, which has been rated R for strong/bloody violence and language, will be available in select theaters, on Digital, and on-demand on December 13, 2024.

Exclusive: Artist International Group has signed renowned Japanese filmmaker Ryuhei Kitamura for representation.

First coming onto the scene in Japan with his ultra-violent zombie samurai action flick Versus, Kitamura directed his first English-language feature with the Bradley Cooper-led The Midnight Meat Train, an adaptation of the Clive Barker novel for Lakeshore Entertainment and Lionsgate.

Previously, Kitamura has helmed manga adaptations including the sci-fi actioner Alive; an epic samurai action pic based on Yu Koyama’s Aragami; Lupin the Third for Toho and Kadokawa; and The Three Sisters of Tenmasouinn. In television, Kitamura created the hit series Sky High before going on to direct a feature adaptation. Other notable credits include the 50th anniversary film Godzilla Final Wars, directing the narrative scenes in the bestselling video game Metal Gear Solid: The Twins Snakes, and his latest Japanese film, Love Death.

Exclusive: Ryuhei Kitamura (The Midnight Meat Train) is set to direct roller coaster thriller Thrill Ride, which Film Bridge International is launching for sales ahead of next month’s Cannes market.

Production is being lined up for the fourth quarter of this year with filming due to take place in Bulgaria at Pro Cinema Studios.

Penned by Chad Law and Christopher Jolley, the English-language film will tell the story of a group of people, including two young women, who are trapped upside down on a roller coaster taken over by a mysterious saboteur threatening to drop them all one-by-one to their deaths.

The organization announced Tuesday that the pair is booked for special honors at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on March 14. Winfrey has been tapped to receive a Vanguard Award “for championing allyship and making a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues.” Previous honorees include Bad Bunny, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Kerry Washington, Cher, Janet Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, Kacey Musgraves and Antonio Banderas.

More than one Arrowverse show was added into the franchise after it had been running for some time, which could result in more complicated circumstances.

The Arrowverse has no shortage of superhero content for the world to enjoy, though certain series therein are clearly superior to others. Beginning with Arrow, which premiered on the CW in 2012, the Arrowverse quickly expanded into multiple series, all based around popular characters from DC Comics. Over the course of its run, the Arrowverse timeline incorporated six fully canon series while also using the multiverse to connect to other shows, movies, and universes which ultimately remain non-canon to the Arrowverse.
