Nat Geo is moving forward on four unscripted series, including Surviving Pompeii featuring two-time Emmy nominee Tom Hiddleston. The just-announced slate of National Geographic projects also includes The Real Finding Nemo, Meet the Planets, and Diana: One Day in Paris.

National Geographic is freshening up its programming slate.

The network has ordered four new series including The Real Finding Nemo and Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston.

It is the first slate of programming since it emerged that a large number of Nat Geo titles including Life Below Zero and Wild Tuna were coming to an end.

Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston is a historical exploration about the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and the preserved Roman city it left behind. Hiddleston, who studied Classics at Cambridge University, exec produces alongside his Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright.

It comes from Plimsoll Productions, which is behind Nat Geo series including A Real Bug’s Life and The Devil’s Climb. Grant Mansfield, Alan Eyres, Helen Flint and Tom Barbor-Might exec produce for Plimsoll and Carolyn Payne exec produces for Nat Geo.

Kevin Wright joined Marvel Studios as a development assistant before being tasked with working as a production and development manager on 2016's Doctor Strange. From there, he rose to associate producer on Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018 and, as a full-fledged producer, took charge of Loki.

Now, though, his time in the MCU has reached its end.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Loki executive producer and former Vice President of production and development at Marvel Studios has exited his position to produce original film and TV projects, independently. It's currently unclear what those will be but they'll surely be worth keeping an eye on.

The MCU has experienced a bit of a lull in recent years. While they’ve provided audiences with occasional hits, the slew of flops cannot be ignored. In this pivotal moment, the departure of Kevin R. Wright, who has been the man behind one of the most successful shows in MCU history, from the Marvel offices, might spell bad news for both the fans and the studio.

Kevin R. Wright’s MCU timeline has come to a close. The Loki executive producer and now-former VP of production and development at Marvel Studios has exited his position to produce original film and TV projects, independently. Wright was one of the central creative figures behind the Tom Hiddleston-led Loki, which is widely considered to be the crown jewel of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ slate. On top of six Emmy nominations, the time-bending sci-fi series is the first-and-only MCU live-action series to receive a second season thus far.

In 2018, when Disney CEO Bob Iger pivoted to streaming with Disney+, he asked his most successful studio, led by Kevin Feige, to expand its shared universe into television. So Wright took the initiative with regard to a potential series about the God of Mischief, crafting a 30-page pitch that included many of the future show’s foundational elements, including the Time Variance Authority.

At the end of “Loki” Season 1, executive producer Kevin R. Wright asked Sophia Di Martino where she saw her character, Sylvie, going after this. After all, Sylvie had just completed her lifelong goal of killing He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) and freeing the multiverse. The actress casually remarked that Sylvie might go grab a burger. “I definitely learned my lesson: Be careful what you say to producers,” Di Martino tells Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video interview above). “Even if you’re half-joking, they might end up writing it into the second [season].”

And that they did. The mid-credits scene in the Season 2 premiere reveals Sylvie’s location: She’s in a branched timeline in 1982 Oklahoma working at a McDonald’s. While Sylvie can literally definitely grab a burger and more there, the iconic fast food chain is also symbolic of what she’s now seeking: normalcy and sowing the seeds for a new life.

Loki season 2 ended with a somber but noble end for the God of Mischief. As the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has shown, we have not seen the last of the Tva in the Marvel universe. While that does not necessarily imply a specific return of Loki himself, we may still get more from other characters from the Disney+ series. Recently, it was addressed that Marvel Studios is doing a lot of retooling to reach glory status again. However, their focus seems to have moved from newly established characters like Shang-Chi, but that film’s star, Simu Liu, assures fans that he will make a return.

Tom Hiddleston is reflecting on 14 years of portraying Loki in Marvel films and television shows and admits he isn’t sure whether he’ll return to the role.

The actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday to promote the news that his series, The Night Manager, was returning for two more seasons after taking an eight-year break. While on the late night show, the host asked Hiddleston if he knew when he was cast in the role of Loki that he would be playing him for as long as he has.

“I had no idea, and every time someone says that [it’s been 14 years], it kind of blows my mind because when I was cast in 2009, I was 28, and I’m 43 now, and that’s a big chunk of my adult life I’ve been playing this amazing character,” the Thor star said. “It’s changed the course of my life completely.

Jonathan Majors has been sentenced to a one-year, in-person domestic violence intervention program, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Monday’s sentence comes roughly five months after the actor’s high-profile trial over the alleged assault of ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari culminated in a guilty verdict; Majors faced up to one year in prison on one charge of reckless assault in the third degree and on one harassment charge.

Loki director Dan DeLeeuw spent nearly 30 years in visual effects, but he knew it was time for a change after receiving his second and third Oscar nominations for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. DeLeeuw worked as the on-set visual effects supervisor on all four of the Russo brothers’ Marvel films, and having directed second unit for Joe and Anthony during Endgame’s additional photography, he quickly realized that his next step involved the director’s chair.

Hollywood success stories often have a lot of overlap, but not in the case of Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright.

The Philadelphia native postponed his film school dreams to enlist in the Marine Corps just a few months before 9/11, and he ended up serving as a combat correspondent for four years. From there, he enrolled at Philadelphia’s University of the Arts and majored in writing for film and television. Upon graduating as valedictorian, Wright moved to Los Angeles and paid his dues as an intern for a few years. He nearly gave up his pursuit until a chance meeting with Marvel Studios presented itself.

Wright then joined the Marvel ranks as a development assistant before working as the production and development manager on Doctor Strange (2016). That led to an associate producer position on Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), which put him on a path towards becoming a full-fledged producer.

According to Disney, the second season launch of the Marvel Studios series pulled in 10.9 million views in its first three days of availability, with the premiere debuting on Oct. 5. A view is defined as total stream time divided by runtime, a measure both Disney and Netflix have recently embraced.

Streamers have slowly begin to roll out more in-depth viewership information for their titles. Recently, Disney announced that the film “Elemental” pulled in 26.4 million views in its first five days on Disney+, while the live-action “Little Mermaid” pulled in 16 million in the same timeframe. The God of Mischief has returned. Only this time, he has the mischief thrust upon him. And he returns and returns and returns again, as Loki gets pulled through time at random intervals beyond his control. Marvel Studios has been exploring the more cosmic parts and psychedelic concepts of their universe after concluding the Infinity Saga with Phases 4 and 5. Loki season 2 continues the theme of multiverse jumping, and Kang the Conqueror, or He Who Remains, looks to be pulling the strings. While Disney+ may be delaying a majority of its fall Marvel series release schedule, season 2 of "Loki" is returning with a vengeance. The Marvel TV series stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, and Ke Huy Quan, among others, and the release of the first trailer alone was breaking records for the Disney-owned streamer. People can't get enough of Hiddleston's Loki, and it seems as if Disney+ has enough faith in the show's fanbase to return without the assistance of a celebrity-filled promotional press tour (that cannot happen under the SAG-AFTRA strike guidelines). But the trickster God and the Time Variance Authority (Tva) are back, ready to face off against the variants of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). The first trailer for season two of the Disney+ series “Loki” dropped on Monday and immediately sent fans into a frenzy that led to the smashing of the streaming platform’s viewership records. According to Disney, the trailer sparked 80 million views, making the video the biggest-ever online debut for the brand.

Turns out, when you destroy the man keeping watch over several timelines, things start collapsing pretty quick. And that’s exactly what Tom Hiddleston’s Loki appears to be finding out in Season 2 of his eponymous Disney+ series.

The first “Loki” Season 2 trailer has arrived and the most pressing issue may not necessarily be Kang the Conqueror, but Loki himself. He’s experiencing something called “time slipping,” in which he gets “pulled through time, between the past and the present.”

The issue is, time slipping isn’t supposed to be possible at the Tva — at least according to Ke Huy Quan’s character. The Oscar-winning “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star takes on the character of Ob in the series, someone that Loki and Mobius (Owen Wilson) go to for help. Unfortunately, he’s just as baffled as they are.

Bisha K. Ali was in the Loki writers’ room when she first caught wind of a Ms. Marvel series, and she wasted no time shooting her shot. As a Marvel devotee herself, the British-Pakistani writer knew that she could bring authenticity to the story of a Pakistani-American teenager named Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) who unlocks a unique set of superpowers. Ali even declined to extend her tenure on Loki in order to work on her pitch to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige. Ultimately, Ali understood that creating an accurate portrayal of a Muslim-American family in Jersey City would be just as relatable as any other family story.

“I said to my [Loki] exec Kevin Wright, ‘If you guys are doing an adaptation of Ms. Marvel and you don’t put my hat in the ring, none of us are leaving with hats or heads,...

“Loki” creator Michael Waldron was concise with the world he wanted production designer Kasra Farahani to build, “’Men Men’ meets ‘Blade Runner.’”

In addition to that, Farahani says, he and director Kate Herron were also inspired by the imposing bureaucratic world of Terry Gilliam’s “Brazil.” With that in mind, Farahani set out to bring the new realms for the God of Mischief to life. Almost all the sets were 360 builds, from the Tva (Time Variance Authority) to Sharoo.

Farahani breaks down how influences from film to mid-century architecture helped bring Loki’s world to life.

“In bringing that to life – reconciling mid-century modernism with analog, gritty ‘Blade Runner’ technology – I was thinking a lot about the differences between European mid-century modernism and Western mid-century modernism.

Those in attendance at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood were shrunk down to size for Marvel’s larger-than-life premiere of “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”
