From a quick glance at The Victim‘s poster, one gets the impression there could in fact be some grindhouse influenced fun to be had, especially with veteran genre actor Michael Biehn at the helm. The presence of scream queen Danielle Harris certainly offers an even stronger attraction to the story, drawing fans in, and an axe wielding Biehn pretty much seals the deal on intrigue. Sure, I wasn’t expecting the next Planet Terror or anything particularly noteworthy, just a good time waster and some entertaining creativity. But as the saying goes, it was curiosity that killed the cat, and The Victim damn near desecrated this curious fuzzball.

I hate to be so critical on Michael Biehn’s first solo directorial effort, but almost every single mark was missed by production.

Let’s start simply with the elongated introductory credits, which actually foreshadow future events in the film just on length alone.

Update: Piranha 3Dd Will Get a Theatical Release in the UK

The $20 million-budgeted horror sequel, Piranha 3Dd, has been pulled from its UK theatrical release and will instead go straight to DVD and Blu-ray, reports the British Video Association.

Piranha 3Dd, which follows on from its 2010 predecessor, Piranha 3D, re-releases the pre-historic school of blood-thirsty piranhas who make their way into a newly opened waterpark. The film was set to be released in UK cinemas late last year, but Entertainment Film Distributors have now withdrawn the film from their cinema schedule and will release it straight to DVD and Blu-ray through their Ev home entertainment arm.

Jessica Szohr will play the female lead in new teen comedy flick Owned.

Szohr will star as a high school student who tries to blackmail her nerdy neighbor with a compromising video when she joins a new school only for him willing to become popular as a result.

American Pie 2 helmer Jb Rogers will direct the movie from a script penned by Jim Freeman. New comedy will be co-produced by Radar Pictures and Dobre Films.

Jessica’s feature credits include Fired Up and Piranha 3D where she joined with former adult movie star Riley Steele, Kelly Brook, Jerry O’Connell, Elizabeth Shue and Richard Dreyfuss for a sexy remake of the 1978 cult film about killer fish.

Dimension are certainly reshuffling like crazy of late, something's definitely shook them up and to coincide with the 'extreme' pushing back of the release for 'Apollo 18' word has arrived that something similar, albeit not as drastic, has also occurred to fishy follow-up 'Piranha 3Dd'. The sequelisation to Alexandre Aja's fun summer b-movie nod has been whipped back from it's intended September 2011 slot to 23 November. Can't really imagine that audiences prepping for Winter are going to be too involved in a sunshine based horror flick though, but who knows. Leave it to a Frenchman to bring back the fun back to the exploitation film, a much-loved indigenous American art form that's grown somewhat antiseptic in recent years. But "bring back the fun" is exactly what director Alexandre Aja has done with Piranha 3D, his recent remake of Joe Dante's classic 1978 Jaws parody.

Hopefully you were keen enough to pick up 'Piranha 3D' on DVD or Blu-Ray when it was released last month here in the UK (if not at least entered our current 'Piranha 3D DVD and Blu-Ray Giveaway' - which ends this Friday). Our stateside cousins, however, had to wait until yesterday to grab their copy of Alexandre Aja's gory fish-infested remake to hit disc. As per usual I failed this year as a horror fan and a movie fan in general.

Dimension Films' 'Piranha 3Dd' (Aka 'Piranha 3D: The Sequel') will arrive in theatres on 16 September 2011, just missing out on that all important Summer rush, but this latest news may just get a few more bums on seats. Mr Ving Rhames may return for the sequel. His character, Deputy Fallon, never actually died on screen in the first film, so it's entirely possible that he'll make a return (even though likely badly scarred or injured). The follow-up to Alexandre Aja's scare fest remake 'Piranha 3D', which was full of blood, guts and gore - not to mention boobies, nude girls (including Kelly Brook) and naked pornstars (like Riley Steele (below)), was good old fashioned horror fun and I'm very happy at the news of a sequel. 'Piranha 3Dd' will be helmed by 'Feast' triology director John Gulager and penned by both Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan.

Each year the acclaimed nude celebrity website Mr. Skin releases its top 10 nude scenes of the year list, and horror is riding high on the 2010 edition!

That's right, the number one nude scene of the year has gone to Kelly Brook and Riley Steele in Piranha 3D for their swim of seduction. Come on! 3D lesbo action with two hot chicks wearing nothing but flippers? How could it lose?

Really!? I guess I shouldn't be surprised Dimension Films has announced a sequel to Piranha 3D, but having seen the movie I really don't see any point. The movie wasn't as fun as I was expecting it to be. Sure, there was a lot of blood, guts and boobies, but I still wasn't impressed. I knew it was going to be a badly scripted movie, with bad acting, but I think the movie took itself too seriously. I'm kind of shocked the movie got such good reviews! Maybe I missed something.

But for those of you who did enjoy it and were looking forward to the sequel here ya go! Congratulations, it's happening.

Hollywood moves fast these days -- sometimes greenlighting sequels to films before the originals even hit theaters, so today's announcement that Piranha 3D is getting a second installment isn't exactly a surprise.

Alexandre Aja's remake of the Roger Corman/Joe Dante cult classic about swarms of flesh-eating fish was a hit with critics (it's pulling an 81% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes currently) and fans alike, raking in 10 million bucks over the weekend. Granted, that's not a lot of cash for an opening weekend, but apparently Dimension is happy enough with those results to go ahead with a follow-up -- which is ironic since they hid this release from critics before it hit theaters on Friday. How much better might it have opened if we all could have raved about it prior to Friday?

Piranha 3D surprised audiences and critics this weekend by actually being a good movie. The gleefully entertaining blood-filled romp made a decent $10m on a easily recoupable $24m budget. Now, on the Monday after release producer Mark Canton exclaimed they “can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”

They already have my ticket. /Film also uncovered possible plans to head to Thailand, that director Alexandre Aja talked about:

We had many ideas. There is the Full Moon Party in Thailand, a huge event with like 200,000 young people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach.”

Aja said they use about 1 gallon of fake blood per human and Piranha 3D had 80,000. If Piranha continues to have success I hope we can expect over double for the sequel. I’m not sure how Aja can fit in more boobs and blood, but I leave that to...

Generally speaking, audiences reap little to no benefits from lowered expectations that develop as an inevitable defense mechanism against the overpriced crap shoveled into movie theaters. Sure, there's the occasional pleasant surprise, but filmmakers must intuitively sense that audiences will continue to tolerate a nearly infinite supply of shitty films (so long as the trailer looks halfway decent and gives away the best moments of the entire movie in question). In the most bizarre cases, however, the rarest of cinematic events -- the movie that is far more satisfying than it ever had any right to be -- occurs. Such is the case with Piranha 3D, with director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) stepping in to helm a faithful yet superior remake of Joe Dante's 1978 original. Screenwriters Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg rework the original premise with a needless (although not entirely unwelcome) scientific backstory, which is damn...

Something fishy is going on in the world of cinema.

This weekend's much-touted release of Atmosphere's creature pic Piranha 3D, directed by Alexandre Aja, enters the arena on the heels of Syfy's recent fish-themed horror romp Mega Piranha, directed by Eric Forsberg.

And who's keeping score? Well, given the warm reception that Mega Piranha got at Comic-Con and the fact that it was Syfy's No1 watched movie premiere of 2010, probably a lot of people.

We all know about Piranha 3D, a $25million special effects extravaganza helmed by Alexandre Aja (Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes), produced by Atmosphere Entertainment (The Spiderwick Chronicles, 300), and starring Kelly Brook, Richard Dreyfus, Elizabeth Shue and Ving Rhames.

Kelly Brook literally let herself ‘go’ in all sense of the word during the remake of Weinstein Co.’s “Piranha 3D,” directed by Alexandre Aja.

“It wasn’t apologizing for what it was. It was a big sexy movie. My role is that of a ‘Girls Gone Wild’ girl,” the British actress tells Collider.

In the film, Brook plays Dani, and gets to have underwater sex with porn thespian Riley Steele.

Featuring an eclectic ensemble cast — from pornstars Ashlynn Brooke and Riley Steele to Academy Award-nominee Elisabeth Shue and Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss — Piranha 3D has received some surprisingly high marks for a movie about a school of ancient piranha that are unleashed from an underwater chasm by seismic activity and swarm to the surface to prey on frolicking co-eds. Sinking ships, toothy man-eaters, babes in bikinis ... these clips pretty much sum up what the movie is all about.

I hate Lake Havasu.

There is just something horribly obnoxious about such an intense collection of douchebags drinking, dancing, and barfing in a single location of the world all at once. The ever increasing and startlingly high douche content of the Lake Havasu spring break population may come to destroy the entire globe, and the existence of this threat can been proven by science. If the Lake Havasu douchebag density increases any further, a quantum singularity of pure unadulterated douchasity may manifest into being as a dreaded black douche hole which will suck our universe into a bizarre realm of orange tans and steroids before ripping our souls into dust.

Piranha 3D is almost like a pleasant day...

A new video has been released featuring many of the actors from this weekend's Piranha 3D. The cast has gathered to make a case for why their new movie deserves at least one Academy Award for their efforts. Best Picture, Best Actor/Actress, Best Animated Feature -- they have an argument for why all would be acceptable and deserved.

In the video you'll see Jerry O'Connell (who's character has some lawsuit trouble stirred up), Adam Scott, Jessica Szohr, Riley Steele, Paul Scheer, and the lovely Kelly Brook (my gods, that accent).

Clearly this is just a joke (or is it...), but the video is really, really funny, and well worth a couple minutes of your time -- especially if you were able to see the movie this weekend. Piranha 3D is gratuitous, trashy and exploitative. It’s filled with thinly drawn characters on camera simply to expose themselves for the titillation of the audience. There are too many underdeveloped central characters, often displaying no logical motivation for their bizarre actions – and yet, ashamed as I may be to admit it, the end result is one of the more memorably entertaining experiences I’ve had at the cinema this summer.

Frankly, this effort is the 80’s throwback flick of the summer; eerily authentic to its B-movie inspirations in execution. It’s even photographed in a similarly bright, almost bleached out manner. Had the producers replaced the modern dance cuts playing in the background with the worst tunes from their old LP collections, the illusion would be flawless.

My prediction: If you have an ounce of fun in your body, you will love this movie about killer piranhas that overtake a town of hotties — in 3D!

The best thing about going to the movies is that you can submerge yourself in fantasy life. You don’t Always want a hard, cold dose of reality. If you agree with me, then you’ll run to the theatre to see the over-the-top comedic romp Piranha 3D this weekend!

In Piranha 3D it’s spring break time for Jerry O’Connell, Jessica Szohr, Vampire Diaries star Steve McQueen, Kelly Brook and porn star Riley Steele in the sleepy town of Lake Victoria – but this year isn’t all about boobs and booze. A remake of Joe Dante’s 1978 original, which was the better of an entire shoal of low-budget rip-offs that appeared in the wake of Jaws, Piranha 3D replays the exploitative gore and sleaze of late-70s and 80s grindhouse pictures with relish. Ahead of its August 20th release date, “Piranha 3D” held a big Los Angeles premiere screening last night (August 18).

The Mann Chinese 6 in Hollywood was hopping with stars like Jessica Szohr, Kelly Brook, Elisabeth Shue, Riley Steele, and Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn

Ms. Brook told press about a time that she and costar Jessica Szohr decided to drive from the film’s set in Lake Havasu, Az to Las Vegas during a break in filming and ended up getting pulled over by the cops.

"The next thing I know, there are three police cars following us. In England, the natural reaction is to get out of the car and ask for directions, which is what I did. Next thing you know, we have got our hands on the bonnet [hood] of the car and we're trying to assure [the police] we're just actresses on our way to Vegas.”
