So, if you love the surreal humor, psychological thriller, and crime drama aspects of Fargo here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Jennifer Garner really wanted the starring role in “The Last Thing He Told Me,” Hello Sunshine’s television adaptation of Laura Dave‘s novel of the same name.
At the series’ Los Angeles premiere on Thursday, Garner told Variety she went after the role of Hannah when original star Julia Roberts dropped out of the project. “I had to just do anything in my power to plead my case,” Garner said.
As a fan of the novel, Garner expressed her excitement for the adaptation starring Roberts: “I thought ‘Oh, she’s going to be amazing!’ I love that story I can’t wait to watch.” But once the role became available, Garner knew she had to pursue the part.
“I just wrote letters to Laura advocating for myself and talking about what the book meant to me and what the role [meant], what I saw in the role and the ways that I felt,...

With any new entry into a well-trod subgenre, it's always challenging to make the material feel a little fresher and more unique compared to what's come before. A number of thrillers have had hapless families discover the father/husband had a secret, dark past, making husbands secret murderers, reformed former criminals ("A History of Violence"), cheaters, liars with other families ("Frequent Flyer") or even secretive agents or heroes (humorously subverted in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"). It's a tried-and-true background for a thriller, but the setup always presents a unique challenge: how could this very specific trope be pivoted to stand out in a crowded field?

Hazel and Byron are really over. HBO Max has cancelled the Made for Love TV series so the characters won't be back for a third season.
A single-camera comedy series, the Made for Love TV show is based on the novel of the same name by Alissa Nutting. The show stars Cristin Milioti, Billy Magnussen, Dan Bakkedahl, Noma Dumezweni, Augusto Aguilera, Caleb Foote and Ray Romano. This cynically poignant story of love and divorce follows Hazel Green (Milioti), a thirty-something woman who's on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to Byron Gogol (Magnussen), a controlling tech billionaire. She discovers that her husband has implanted a high-tech tracking device in her brain -- the Made for Love chip. This chip allows him to track her, watch her, and know her "emotional data" as she...

It is the end of the road for Made for Love. HBO Max has canceled the dark romantic comedy series after two seasons, Deadline has confirmed. Season 2 wrapped May 19 and will serve as the series finale.
“We are tremendously grateful for the truly spectacular journey of these past two seasons, courtesy of Alissa Nutting, Christina Lee, Cristin, Billy, Ray and the entire Made for Love cast and creative team – especially Zelda the talking dolphin and everyone’s favorite synthetic love interest, Diane,” reps for HBO Max said in a statement Friday. “Like a Gogol chip, the series will always be on our minds.”
Made For Love was HBO Max’s first original series.

With the broadcast upfronts inching closer by the day, ABC has made some decisions.
The network has officially canceled Queens and Promised Land after their freshman runs.
Both shows struggled to garner much traction, with Promised Land being banished to Hulu early into its run.
There was some hope that its performance on the Disney streaming service could lead to a potential pickup.
Unfortunately, it sounds like the show failed to register on the streamer.
“Promised Land is a beautifully executed and tremendously entertaining series of which everyone at our company is extremely proud,” an ABC previously told TV Line of the soapy drama's move.
“We know it has a passionate audience that is very invested in this show, and those viewers will be able to stream all subsequent episodes exclusively on Hulu every Tuesday for the rest of the season.”

Freshman drama Promised Land will not return for a second season. ABC has canceled the Latinx family drama after a short one-season run.
The news is not surprising. Promised Land, which premiered in January, ranked as ABC’s least watched and lowest-rated scripted series this season and was pulled from the schedule by the network after five episodes, with the remainder of its 10-episode first season released exclusively on Hulu. Promised Land‘s premiere earned a 0.2 demo rating and 1.86 million viewers in Live+Same Day, and the series never found wide audience despite scoring with critics (100 on Rotten Tomatoes).

The ABC dramas “Queens” and “Promised Land” have both been canceled after one season at ABC.
“Queens” concluded its season on the broadcaster back in February. The series followed four women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had in the ‘90s when they were legends in the hip-hop world.

It also starred Naturi Naughton as Jill aka Da Thrill, Nadine Velazquez as Valeria aka Butter Pecan, Taylor Sele as Eric Jones, Pepi Sonuga as Lil Muffin, and Brandy as Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics.
Zahir McGhee wrote “Queens” and served as an executive producer. Tim Story executive produced and directed the pilot. Sabrina Wind also executive produced. Swizz Beatz served as executive music producer.

“Promised Land” has been pulled from ABC’s primetime schedule after just five episodes. The drama will move to Hulu and finish its 10-episode run there.
The series, which focuses on a Latinx family in Sonoma Valley, has been very low rated in its short run — but critical reviews remain strong. “Promised Land,” which currently averages 2.9 million total viewers per episode, including one week of (mostly) DVR catchup, has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, though it’s only based on seven critics.
That viewer tally ranks the show 88th on broadcast TV, between ABC game show “The Chase” and NBC sitcom “American Auto.”
“Promised Land” is technically not canceled — yet. There has been no decision about a potential Season 2, an ABC insider told TheWrap.

The new ABC drama “Promised Land” is moving over to Hulu.
The drama series premiered on the broadcast network on Jan. 24. Beginning March 1, it will move to the streaming service for the final five episodes of Season 1. The show has been far from a ratings breakout during its initial episodes. Season to date in the Nielsen Live+7 ratings, it is averaging just a 0.3 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.9 million viewers per episode.

. It has a sprawling cast spread across two timelines that intersect in a way that sets the show apart, but which ABC nonetheless has barred coverage from mentioning before the show’s Monday premiere. Over the course of the first two episodes screened for critics, “Promised Land” explores the promise and poison of the American dream — a typical lens through which to view wealthy dynasties, but one that has more pointed resonance on this show, which specifically centers Mexican and Mexican-American characters. With beautiful shots of southern California deserts and vineyards, heightened acting, and a sweeping score by Gustavo Santaolalla and Kevin Kiner, “Promised Land” immediately distinguishes itself.
The pilot introduces two storylines: one about Mexican teens (played by Katya Martín and Andres Velez) risking everything to cross the border into the United States to work at a near-mythical vineyard, and another about the rich and powerful people who own it.

Exclusive: Filming is slated to resume tomorrow on the second season of HBO Max’s dark romantic comedy Made for Love, from Paramount TV Studios, I have learned.
I hear production was paused last week after positive Covid test results, including in the central Zone A, which includes the cast and those in direct interaction with them. The results were produced through the show’s rigorous testing protocols.
Based on the Alissa Nutting novel and executive produced by Christina Lee and Nutting, Made for Love stars Cristin Milioti, Billy Magnussen, Ray Romano, Dan Bakkedahl, Noma Dumezweni, Augusto Aguilera and Caleb Foote.
The series premiered in April 2021 and was renewed for a second season in June.
I hear production was paused last week after positive Covid test results, including in the central Zone A, which includes the cast and those in direct interaction with them. The results were produced through the show’s rigorous testing protocols.

After a three-decades-long career, John Ortiz will finally take on the leading role in the upcoming ABC family drama Promised Land, premiering January 24.
With credits in major films like Carlito’s Way, Amistad, American Gangster, and Silver Linings Playbook, and the small screen in Medium, The Handmaid’s Tale, Mayans M.C., why has it taken so long for Hollywood to recognize his bankability as a leading star?
Ortiz stars as the Sandoval family patriarch Joe Sandoval, a vintner married to Lettie (Cecilia Suarez) and with who he shares a blended family of their respective children from prior relationships and a son who is biologically their own. It also explores immigration, with creator Matt Lopez opting to focus on the human experience instead of politicizing it.
“The human component is something that speaks to me, given the structure, the extremes, and the stakes,” he said of the importance of having shows like Promise...

Bellamy Young is returning to ABC later this month. And with a name like Margaret Honeycut, you know her character isn’t coming to make friends.
The woman formerly known as Mellie Grant is a key player in Promised Land (Jan. 24, 10/9c), an “epic, generation-spanning drama about a Latino family vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley.” And thanks to the just-released trailer, we have our first look at her devious character in action.

ABC likes to have a sudsy primetime soap on its midseason roster, and Promised Land looks like a winner.
In the past, we've had one-and-done but highly watchable shows like Grand Hotel and The Baker and the Beauty, so we're hoping Promised Land stands the test of time.
The series is an epic, generation-spanning drama about two Latinx families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley.
The first trailer dropped at the network's panel during the Winter TCA tour, and there was another big announcement regarding the series:
The first two episodes will be available on Hulu the day after the series premiere on ABC, marking the first time ABC programming will be released on Hulu before debuting on the network.
The series premieres Monday, Jan. 24 (10:01-11:00 p.m. Est), on ABC, out of The Bachelor.
Will Promised Land and The Bachelor be a match made in TV heaven?...
