On 17 April 2015, British tabloid The Sun printed an opinion-piece by her attacking immigrants who cross the Mediterranean to settle in Britain, in which she wrote: 'Make no mistake, these migrants are like cockroaches... they are built to survive a nuclear bomb'. This appeared on the same day that a fishing vessel carrying migrants sunk off the coast of Libya, claiming 800 lives. Her article was denounced by, amongst others, the United Nations commissioner for human rights.
