With Scrubs season 10 now officially happening, speculation can begin in earnest about what the sitcom's revival will look like, and showrunner Bill Lawrence has already provided a huge clue in that respect. All nine seasons of Scrubs aired between 2001 and 2010, with the final season drawing much criticism and ultimately leading to the show's cancelation. Part of the reason behind this was that not every doctor in Scrubs returned for the show's last run of episodes, but there were other factors.
The original Scrubs hospital was only torn down in 2011, but Scrubs season 9 still shifted location to a traditional sound stage rather than using the immersive building where the previous eight seasons had been shot. This contributed massively to the show's new feel, causing ratings and audience reception to plummet dramatically. There are many who believe it would be best to wipe the Med School era from existence when the sitcom is revived,...

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence confirms that the revival won't retcon season 9. After years of speculation, it was recently confirmed that a Scrubs revival is moving ahead at ABC and 20th Television. Though it's still early in the process, original cast members such as Zach Braff, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, and potentially others are expected to reprise their roles in some capacity.
In the latest update, Lawrence tells TVLine that the revival won't retcon and erase the events of Scrubs season 9 — which focused on a largely new group of characters. In the quote below, the series praised that last season and mentions that he would like to see some of the actors in that season reprise their roles. He also teased that the upcoming episodes will introduce new interns:

Scrubs 2.0 will not chalk the original series’ med school detour up to one of J.D.’s daydreams.
Unlike Roseanne and Will & Grace, which found clever ways to erase their divisive finales from series canon once they were revived, ABC’s in-the-works Scrubs redux will stay true to the developments of Season 9, which shifted gears (and locations) and focused on a quartet of newbies, including Season 8 holdover Eliza Coupe.

Would you like a “Scrubs” revival, where J.D. (Zach Braff), Elliot (Sarah Chalke), and the rest of the original gang return, or a “Scrubs” reboot, with a new group of medical interns in the same dramedy format? Why not both? That’s what creator Bill Lawrence is proposing.
In an interview with Deadline pegged to the finale of his Apple TV+ series “Bad Monkey,” the prolific, Emmy-winning producer said that a “Scrubs” revival is “getting really close to being figured out.” Lawrence is under an overall deal with Warner Bros. while “Scrubs” is produced by ABC/Disney, but once that negotiation is resolved, Lawrence is confident development will move forward.
“Big chunks of the creative team behind the camera, and most of it from in front of the camera, are all super invested and excited, so very close,” Lawrence said regarding the current status of the project.

As all you savvy TV enthusiasts know, a series revival is a continuation of a previously existing show. A series reboot is a reimagining of a show, which often involves new actors playing established characters, a new setting, etc.
In an interview with our sister site Deadline, Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence says a potential revisitation of his popular medical comedy would be both.

Ten years ago, Scoot McNairy’s first collaboration with Mackenzie Davis on Halt and Catch Fire had just completed its first season on AMC, and the “little drama that could” gradually became both a critical darling and cult hit. Set in the personal computing and internet revolutions of the ‘80s and ‘90s, McNairy’s Gordon Clark and Davis’ Cameron Howe played computer geniuses who had great respect for each other’s intellects, and together with their impermanent romantic and business partners of Kerry Bishé’s Donna Clark and Lee Pace’s Joe MacMillan, the quartet’s interpersonal relationships continuously evolved amid the ever-changing landscape of the industry they helped shape.
McNairy and Davis’ characters often had a very brother-and-sister dynamic, so the Halt fan base was rocked when James Watkin’s Speak No Evil dropped its first trailer last April, unveiling McNairy and Davis’ married couple of Ben and Louise Dalton.

A decade ago, Mackenzie Davis’ breakout role as Cameron Howe on AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire had just finished airing as part of the series’ well received but criminally underseen first season. Fortunately for Halt, the network’s flagship shows, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, had mostly concluded their decorated runs at that point, and AMC, in the interest of creating new critical darlings, decided to invest further in Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers’ under-viewed drama series, something that’s a rarity in this day and age of increasingly impatient networks, studios and streamers.
Davis played a gifted young computer programmer who was at the forefront of the personal computing and internet revolutions in the ’80s and ’90s, and throughout the rest of the series, she had an off-and-on romantic relationship with Lee Pace’s visionary entrepreneur, Joe MacMillan. Sony’s comic book film Madame Web launched to derision in February. We take a look at what went wrong with a potentially interesting thriller…
Spoilers lie ahead – and lots of them – for Madame Web.
Much has already been written about Sony’s Spider-Man-adjacent calamity Madame Web following its initial cinema release on the 14th February this year. But because of the breakneck pace the modern cultural world moves at, it already feels as though the conversation has moved on; director Sj Clarkson’s comic book supernatural thriller made its streaming debut in May and barely made a ripple.
This is unfortunate, because number one, Madame Web deserves some sort of cult status for its sheer oddness. And number two, it deserves to be studied as a cautionary example of what not to do if you want to tell a coherent, engrossing story.
So what’s wrong with Madame Web,...

Sony has been struggling to find the secret formula to make their Spider-Verse movies satisfy audiences in the same way Marvel Studios has managed for the last decade-plus. Boiled down, it seems to come form a lack of coherent vision and weak scripts.
The critical despair and box office indifference to Madame Web is misplaced because it’s not the worst of the lot, but viewers are clearly tired of Sony misfires, which doesn’t bode well for the forthcoming Kraven.
The incredibly weak script from director Sj Clarkson, Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, and Claire Parke mars the potential found deep within the very disappointing Madame Web, out now from Sony Home Entertainment. The basic premise that four women are brought together as part of a woven tapestry of spider-powers is fine, as is importing Ezekiel (Tahar Rahim) from the Spider-Man comics to be the bad guy.
However, the script them all.

“With great power comes great responsibility” might be the most important line in superhero fiction. It crystalizes a theme present in the best superhero stories even before Spider-Man‘s debut in 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s Superman tales and Bill Parker, and C.C. Beck’s Captain Marvel adventures. The line transforms superhero stories from mere power fantasies to stories about service and care, about empowering others instead of consolidating power for yourself.
So when a member of Las Arañas, Madame Web‘s ill-advised magical natives, tells Cass Webb (Dakota Johnson), “When you take on the responsibility, great power will come,” it’s clear the production team has lost the plot.
Director S.J. Clarkson, who co-wrote the script with Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Claire Parker, and certainly a boardroom of IP lawyers, intends the line to break Cass out of her...

The problem with ‘Madame Web’ begins with its title. It appears that the makers had some thoughts around introducing a spider girl/woman universe, which apparently did not translate as expected and were lost for a title to whatever was made. ‘Madame Web’ was conceived in 2019, approved for production in 2020, filmed in 2022, and reportedly underwent reshoots. It probably aimed to expand the ‘Spider’ universe following the success of ‘Venom’ and ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ in 2018.
‘Madame Web’ with its uncertain tone and complex storyline is categorised as a suspense thriller. The film reimagines an elderly clairvoyant character from the comics as a young paramedic portrayed by Dakota Johnson. However, the movie struggles to define its identity.
It starts awkwardly with a poorly executed scene set in 1970s Peru with a pregnant Mary Parker (Emma Roberts) expecting a baby during one of her expeditions, which also doubles up as Cassandra Webb aka...

This article contains major spoilers for "Madame Web."
Good news, fellow arachnophobes! Yes, it's an unfortunate inevitability that any film related to "Spider-Man" is going to feature at least a little bit of spidery spookiness at some point in the story. The same remains true of "Madame Web," the newly-released standalone film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. But here's the biggest point in our favor: All those pesky, eight-legged arachnids are rendered in wholly unconvincing CGI, thus making this a far, far cry from Shelob in "The Return of the King" or that jump-scare early on in the first "Dune" movie. Yet even if they only exist in ones and zeroes, the nasty little critters are still chiefly responsible for, well, all the superpowered action taking place in the movie.
The opening scene immediately sets the stage for us, explaining how rare spiders in the Amazon jungle are apparently...

Let's just say your Spidey-Sense better be tingling, because this article contains spoilers for "Madame Web."
It's not really on the same level as Nick Fury welcoming Tony Stark into a much wider world than he ever imagined, but "Madame Web" has now officially entered Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The live-action shared universe may be built entirely around Spider-Man's rogues gallery and assorted supporting characters ... but it doesn't actually feature the famous Web-Crawler himself. Yeah, we're still trying to figure that one out. Whatever the case may be, this oddly cobbled-together franchise made up of both "Venom" movies and the disaster known as "Morbius" now has another ignominious addition to its ranks, and, well, it went about as badly as everyone expected.

Hey “True Believers”, is it time for another trip into the Marvel Universe so early in the new year? Well, since the last adventure of the Ant-Man and the Wasp hit the multiplex almost on the same date last year, then it’s “Avengers Assemble” once more. But with a couple of big exceptions. You see, this isn’t a Marvel Studios production, rather it’s Sony “in association with Marvel”. So, this is another effort by them to “spin-off” Spidey and bring another secondary character from the comics into their very own feature film. Oh, and the others were the “rouges gallery” Aka the bad guys. First, it was Venom, who got a sequel followed by the disastrous Morbius, with Kraven “waiting in the wings”. Ah, but this time it’s another hero so Sony hopes that moviegoers will get tangled up in the strands spun by Madame Web.

Those are elevated B-movies, but they’re a decent amount of fun thanks to Tom Hardy’s merciless scenery chewing, and the grosses for those flicks have been astronomical. Clearly, someone likes them. The Spider-Man universe has a cadre of supporting characters in its vault. Cassandra “Madame” Web is one such character who first appeared in the Amazing Spider-Man issue #210 in the fall of 1980. Created by Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr., Cassandra is an elderly, disabled woman with precognitive abilities who helps Peter Parker find a kidnapping victim.
Transitioning from the comic book origins of Cassandra who is introduced as a character of depth and mystery, the film adaptation directed by S.J. Clarkson, and written by Clarkson, Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless and Claire Parker, squanders any possibility for expansion of the Madame Web world through clinical and formulaic storytelling.

When I was a kid, my mom steered us toward toys that looked like G.I. Joe or Transformers action figures, but weren’t. Their faces were wack, the joints all wrong, such that the limbs didn’t move right, or else they popped out altogether. Sure, these off-brand imitations cost less than the real thing — that made a difference on my meager allowance — but no amount of imagination could turn my busted GoBots into Optimus Prime.
Now, if 10-year-old me could’ve predicted the future (the way Cassie Webb can), he would’ve seen this disappointment as valuable practice for a movie like “Madame Web,” a hollow Sony-made Spider-Man spinoff with none of the charm you expect from even the most basic superhero movie. The title mutant — who’s never actually identified by that name — hails from the margins of the Marvel multiverse, which suggests that, much as Sony did with “Morbius” and “Venom,...

There’s something so demoralizing about lambasting another underwhelming Marvel offering. What is there left to really say about the disappointments and ocean-floor-level expectations created by the mining of this intellectual property? Every year, studio executives dig up minor characters, dress them in a fog of hype and leave moviegoers to debate, defend or discard the finished product.
Madame Web is one of these recently exhumed efforts. The film, directed by Sj Clarkson and starring Dakota Johnson as a clairvoyant paramedic in New York, has as much energy as an employee subjected to an ice breaker during a corporate retreat. It is an airless and stilted endeavor driven by a mechanical screenplay (written by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Claire Parker & Clarkson). Its lack of imagination would be astounding if it wasn’t so expected. When Sony dropped the trailer two months ago, the early reactions were nothing short of brutal.

Word on the street is that S.J. Clarkson’s openly abysmal “Madame Web” took place in the 1990s until the whole film was time-shifted forward to the start of the 21st century during reshoots, and while that rumor might sound like a satire of the creative bankruptcy that led superhero movies to go from “No Way Home” to “No One Cares” in less than two years, actually watching Clarkson’s lifeless cobweb of an origin story left me with a lot more questions than answers.
On the one hand, the assortment of Clinton-era classics on the soundtrack definitely feel like orphaned cues from an earlier cut. Filmmaker Kevin Smith is best known for his work in the comedy genre. His movies often center on comic book and Star Wars-loving guys, and tend to be packed with stoner humor and vulgar but amusing conversations about sex. But once he was more than a decade and several movies into his movie career, he decided to switch things up, making a horror film that was inspired by disturbing headlines and is packed with death, damnation – and some damn fine acting. Released in 2011, Kevin Smith’s first horror movie was called Red State (watch it Here), and if you haven’t seen it, it’s the best horror movie you never saw.

TV shows can continue even without essential actors, as recasting can be done for convenience or narrative reasons. The success of a show's new cast members can depend on fan reception and the chemistry between the remaining cast members. For example, Doctor Who's constant recasting of the lead role adds to the show's appeal and keeps it fresh with every new actor. Another example is Reacher, whose titular character is the only irreplaceable part of the story.
Even if an actor seems essential to the fabric of a TV show, that doesn't necessarily mean it can't continue without them. There are a variety of shows that continued past their original casting choices, either because the story asked such or because of behind-the-scenes issues. Depending on its nature and genre, a show being so heavily recast can be done for convenience or narrative reasons. Sometimes, there can be more than one...

Shifting the focus to other characters through narration provides additional insights and a more comprehensive understanding of the beloved figures in Scrubs. Lucy, Derek, and Sunny's attempts at narration fell short compared to J.D.'s unique perspective, showing the irreplaceable essence of J.D.'s narration in the show. The episodes that feature narration from other characters allow for exploration of new dimensions and character growth, but ultimately highlight the importance of J.D.'s endearing filter and unique flair in narrating Scrubs.
Almost every episode of Scrubs, medical intern John “J.D.” Dorian is the narrator, infusing his humor, wit and internal insights based on the situations happening around him. There have, however, been times when he passed the voice-over torch, offering a glimpse into the minds of other characters from the series. While J.D.'s perspective dominates the show through his colorful narration, several episodes shift the focus to other characters.

A couple months ago, Kevin Smith announced that he will be making a sequel 2014 horror film Tusk (watch it Here) for the film’s tenth anniversary, a sequel that he’s planning to call Tusk. And that’s not the only horror sequel he has in the works. Slash Film reports that, during a Q&a at an Austin, Texas screening of Clerks III, Smith is also going to be making a sequel to his 2011 horror debut Red State (watch that one Here)! Red State 2 will be happening because distributor Lionsgate (who also financed Clerks III) specifically requested that he make the sequel.
Smith said, “(Lionsgate was) like, if we do this, would you do it again? And I was like, yeah, in a heartbeat. […] I mean, obviously, Michael Parks is gone. But it’s just a story of crazy people with guns and shit like that. As long as...

In 2021, Claire Foy won her second Emmy for playing Queen Elizabeth on Netflix’s The Crown, a bizarre guest acting triumph for what was barely even a cameo. The easiest way to interpret Foy’s victory is that Emmy voters have lost all ability to judge guest acting categories, which require a complete overhaul. Or, looking at Olivia Colman’s win for playing Queen Elizabeth on The Crown, we can be generous and say that what voters truly enjoy is double casting, the comparative pleasures of watching actors put unique-but-complementary spins on a shared role.

“Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber” starts with a simple question: “Are you an asshole?” Then-ceo of Uber Travis Kalanick (played with apt exuberance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) poses the question to a prospective hire, mid job interview. The young man is a bit thrown, but he’s given a temporary reprieve when two of Travis’ top staffers storm in with an emergency: There’s a growing perception that Uber doesn’t care about passenger safety. Drivers are making passengers uncomfortable. Some are breaking the law. Still, Travis doesn’t see why it’s a problem, and it’s certainly not his problem, but the point of the impromptu meeting isn’t to solve a problem. It’s to make more money.

Travis Kalanick, the former CEO of the ride-sharing company Uber, might seem like a tiresome subject for a seven-episode docudrama series: another move-fast-break-things tech bro whose “change the world” sloganeering barely disguises a seething insecurity. Yet these qualities are exactly what makes this such a plum role for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the star of the new series “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber.” That’s not meant as a dig at Gordon-Levitt, a talented actor with charisma and energy to spare. But his work as Kalanick does the neat trick of flipping a performer’s potential weaknesses — a sometime tendency to peacock, in his visible efforts to put on a show — into a character-defining strength. The show’s version of Kalanick, called “Tk” by his closest colleagues, is brash and cocksure; he’s also relentlessly self-conscious about his endless points of reference — “Zuck” (of Facebook), “Ek” (of Spotify), and any other...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is brash and bullish as former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick in the trailer for Showtime’s “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber,” which debuted on Thursday.
The series from “Billions” duo Brian Koppelman and David Levien and Beth Schacter (“Soundtrack”) tells the story of Kalanick, who was “one of Silicon Valley’s most successful and most destructive unicorns,” according to Showtime’s press release.
Kyle Chandler stars as his mentor Bill Gurley, the venture capitalist who funded Uber’s success.
“We are disruptors. We are kings, gods,” Gordon-Levitt declares in the trailer as Uber takes off. But when things start to fall apart and a colleague tells him, “I’m going to side with the company, ” he yells, “I Am the company.” In another scene, he threatens, “Disloyalty needs to be punished.”
We also see Uma Thurman sporting a wig, an accent and an attitude as Arianna Huffington.

Apple TV Plus released a trailer for “Suspicion,” an eight-episode limited series starring Uma Thurman, premiering on Feb. 4.
Thurman plays a high-profile CEO living in New York City, where her son is taken by four mysterious, masked kidnappers at a hotel. As the FBI and the U.K.’s National Crime Agency set their eyes on four seemingly ordinary British citizens staying at the hotel, they scramble to prove their innocence — but not everyone can be trusted.
In the trailer, the four British visitors struggle to provide alibis, finding themselves in a trans-Atlantic game of cat and mouse.
Starring alongside Thurman are Kunal Nayyar (“The Big Bang Theory”), Noah Emmerich (“The Americans”), Georgina Campbell (“Black Mirror”), Elizabeth Henstridge (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), Tom Rhys-Harries (“White Lines”), Elyes Gabel (“Scorpion”) and Angel Coulby (“Dancing on the Edge”).
Based on the Israeli series “False Flag,” “Suspicion” is led by showrunner and executive producer Rob Williams.
