Earlier this week, we came across a rumor that Marvel Studios might be planning to introduce a fresh version of T’Challa to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While initial reports suggested that Kevin Feige and the team were looking for a new actor to portray a variant of the character originally played by the late Chadwick Boseman, it seems more likely that the studio is casting for the role of T’Challa’s son, Toussaint, who appeared at the end of Wakanda Forever.
There’s been a lot of speculation about who could step into this role, regardless of whether it’s T’Challa or Toussaint. Many actors see this as stepping into Boseman’s shoes, which some feel would be disrespectful, while others may not want the immense responsibility that comes with it.

Earlier this week, we shared a rumor that Marvel Studios might be planning to introduce a new take on T'Challa to the MCU.
The initial report (via Jeff Sneider) suggested that Kevin Feige and co. were searching for a new actor to play a variant of the same character the late Chadwick Boseman portrayed, but it seems more likely that the studio is actually in the process of casting an actor for the role of the original T'Challa's son, who was introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever.
Whatever the case may be, it appears quite a few actors believe that accepting the role would be akin to replacing Boseman, and either feel it would be disrespectful to the beloved actor, or simply don't want the responsibility of filling those particular shoes.
We have already heard that one actor declined Marvel's offer to play the new T'Challa, and it sounds...

Though we weren't aware of this until very recently, there's been growing online support for Brandon Sklenar to play the Dark Knight in the upcoming Dcu The Brave and the Bold Movie, and the fan campaign was recently given a major boost thanks to the actor's It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively sharing her endorsement.
Now, Sklenar has liked and commented on some fan-art depicting him as the Caped Crusader.
Despite speculation that The Batman star Robert Pattinson could end up jumping to the Dcu to play the legendary Gotham City vigilante in The Brave and the Bold, director Andy Muschietti confirmed that a new actor will be cast as the hero during a recent interview.
"As everyone knows, the Batman featured in The Brave and the Bold will belong to the new DC universe. It’s quite obvious that Matt Reeves’ Batman is not part of this new universe.

Warning: contains potential spoilers for Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum #1!
Green Lantern is entering a new era, and it kicks off with the help of the coolest villains to hit the DC Universe in a long time. The last year has been one of the most tumultuous in the history of the Corps, one that saw them nearly wiped out from within. Now, in a preview for Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum #1, a grave threat to the Corps has risen.
Jeremy Adams has been writing Green Lantern for the last few years, and will soon work his magic on Aquaman.

Yesterday evening, a rumour hit social media claiming that Marvel Studios is making moves to recast Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. The news has received a mixed response, though many fans are eager to see the character back on screen.
After Boseman passed away, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever confirmed that T'Challa had also died. Shuri inherited the mantle and the sequel ended by revealing the hero secretly had a son with Nakia, a young boy also named T'Challa.
While Avengers: Secret Wars' Black Panther may be a Variant, we think Toussaint is going to be aged up before picking up where his father left off in the Mutant Saga. With all that in mind, we're now taking a look at the actors who could take over this role in the MCU.

Netflix continues to dominate the streaming sphere, and frankly it's not hard to see why. The streamer pumps out so much so-called "content" that I'm starting to wonder whether half of this stuff isn't already being generated by some god awful AI. Still, amid the onslaught of media, Netflix put out some pretty good films in 2024, most notably the killer action thriller "Rebel Ridge," which surely went a long way to helping star Aaron Pierre land the role of John Stewart in DC and James Gunn's burgeoning shared universe.
Netflix started 2025 strong, too, proving that streaming audiences still know a good film when they see one by delivering Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" to its servers and seeing it shoot to the top of the charts. No doubt the rest of the year will see more of the same quality filmmaking punctuating a sea of otherwise forgettable streaming slush. But...

Did Sam Worthington pass on Green Lantern? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Yes, instead of suiting up, the Aussie actor pulled a hard pass. Why? This is because, as he put it, the whole Green Lantern gig was… “very bizarre.” And we’re not talking about his character’s spandex suit. Nope, it was the mythology that left Sam Worthington scratching his head.
In an exclusive chat with Variety, Sam Worthington revealed what made him ditch the iconic DC Comics role, and—spoiler—it wasn’t some “schedule conflict” excuse. The issue was simpler (and more bizarre) than that: the hero’s powers just didn’t make sense. “It didn’t make much sense to me—the suit comes out of his skin?” Worthington recalled. “And I was like, ‘He’s got this powerful ring that can create anything. Well, what can beat the ring?’ The answer was nothing.” So yeah, when...

Back in October, a rumor that Josh Brolin was in talks to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO Lanterns series did the rounds, with the trades seemingly backing up the initial report when it was announced that Kyle Chandler had landed the part.
Brolin - who is no stranger to superhero roles having previously played Thanos, Cable and Jonah Hex - would later confirm that he was in negotiations for the role. The Dune Part Two star declined to go into specifics, instead praising the man who will suit-up as the veteran ring-slinging hero in the Dcu series.

James Gunn’s Superman, set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, has already captured the attention of fans with its promising cast. Among the highlights is the selection of Rachel Brosnahan as the iconic Lois Lane. Interestingly, while the actress delivered a stellar audition for the role, it wasn’t quite the entirety of the vetting process she had to undergo.
As James Gunn proceeded to finalize the major faces in Superman, he took the advice of his younger brother and MCU actor Sean Gunn. Sean, having briefly worked with Rachel Brosnahan on the epic hit that was The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, had only glowing words for the actress.

With the superhero genre being so vast, it's no surprise that some actors have portrayed multiple characters across DC movies. Despite the live-action sphere currently being dominated by the MCU, DC has plenty more to offer in the way of animated movies, thanks in no small part to the DC Animated Universe. This has allowed plenty of actors to lend their voices to certain roles while portraying entirely new characters in DC's live-action movies.
Still, there is no shortage of actors who have portrayed multiple characters in the live-action arena. Thanks to 1989's Batman, DC was the first to churn out live-action blockbusters that would eventually morph into the Dceu, a cinematic franchise comprising 15 movies that have recast several DC movie veterans. With the Dcu poised to reboot DC's cinematic franchise starting with Superman in July, this trend has already started to continue. With that in mind, here are the...

Filming is scheduled to start oon: February 2025. Even now, it seems Aaron Pierre is still doing his research for his role as John Stewart.
During an interview with Virgin Radio UK's The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Aaron Pierre commented on preparing physically for the role of a Green Lantern as well as preparing his knowledge of the character. He stated his opinion of the character of John Stewart as follows:
“This character has always radiated class. He's always radiated charisma, strength, identity. So I'm very happy to be bringing him to life in a live action context.”

One of the many potential future Justice League members in James Gunn's "Superman" trailer is Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), the first of the many Green Lanterns who are set to run around in the DC Universe. The man with the power ring and the bowl cut is also expected to appear in the 2026 Dcu series "Lanterns," which will focus on Gardner's fellow Green Lanterns Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). All in all, life is good for Fillion fans who are keen to see the "Firefly" and "The Rookie" star ply his trade as DC's angriest superhero, starting with his role in "Superman." Or is it?

As 2025 arrives, the DC Universe is gearing up for a pivotal year filled with groundbreaking announcements. With James Gunn and Peter Safran steering the revamped DC Studios with Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, 2025 promises to lay the foundation for a cohesive and expansive cinematic and television universe. In addition to legacy characters like Superman and Batman taking the spotlight, lesser-known heroes and villains are set to shine in some thrilling new projects.
DC Studios is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades, led by the bold vision of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Their multi-year plan seeks to reshape the Dcu’s future. The interconnected approach aims to appeal to longtime viewers while attracting a new audience, balancing deep character development with blockbuster storytelling. The DC Universe is already bringing in a handful of Green Lanterns into the universe with the upcoming Superman film as well as HBO's Lanterns, but there are still more members of the Green Lanterns Corps that I desperately want to see in future projects. Three Green Lanterns have already been confirmed for the Dcu after being neglected in the Dceu, showing that James Gunn and Peter Safran are willing to set up the cosmic side of the universe somewhat more.
Though some of the most popular Green Lanterns are already cast for the Dcu - those being Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Guy Gardner - the Green Lantern Corps is expansive, and it would do the universe good to incorporate more members in future projects. The Green Lantern mythos seems to be an important part of the Dcu, and there is no shortage of fantastic storyline that the universe should adapt regarding the Green Lantern Corps. Lanterns will feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart, while James Gunn's Superman will introduce the world to Guy Gardner. Even though the Dcu is just beginning, there are already three Green Lanterns set to appear in the budding universe.
Green Lantern has not had the best luck when it comes to live-action, as the Ryan Reynolds-led movie from 2011 was a massive failure, bombing at the box-office and becoming the punchline of many jokes (from Reynolds himself) about it. Hopefully, the Dcu can redeem it, considering HBO's Lanterns looks to be a more grounded, prestigious attempt at adapting the larger-than-life mythos. Diving into the wider world of the Green Lantern Corps, there are several storylines we hope to see in the Dcu.

When the trailer for Superman (2025) finally dropped, I assumed I would have been primarily interested in David Corenswet’s Man of Steel, but instead, I find myself more fascinated with a different DC hero: Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern. The Dcu’s Superman is set to redefine the iconic hero for a new generation, marking the first movie in James Gunn’s Dcu Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Despite the earnest charm of Corenswet’s Clark Kent, I’m more excited about Nathan Fillion’s take on Green Lantern - specifically, the hilariously brash and unmistakable Guy Gardner.
James Gunn’s Superman represents the dawn of a new Dcu, a fresh slate after years of inconsistent films and muddled timelines. James Gunn stated that this new Superman would be a bastion of hope with a distinct sense of humanity, contrasting with Henry Cavill’s Superman in the Dceu, who was more serious and godlike.

To be fair, I’m far from a Green Lantern expert, but even as a casual reader of the Emerald Knight, I noticed an odd discrepancy in a recent comic release concerning how his powers typically work. It made me wonder—did DC really forget this basic capability of a Green Lantern's ring, or was it an intentional oversight to emphasize just how powerful the Justice League’s newest villain is?
This confrontation stands as one of Green Lantern’s fastest defeats at the hands of a villain.
Jeff Parker, Lukas Ketner, Michele Bandini, and Marcelo Maiolo’s Batman / Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #3 follows a Justice League subteam as they take on their latest holiday-themed threat: the Silent Knight. This skeletal, armor-clad foe has proven exceptionally overpowered, using magic to incapacitate some of DC’s strongest heroes—including Superman, Queen Nubia, Mera, and more—by draining them of their abilities.

The first trailer for Superman gave audiences their first look at the new DC Universe, and this included a brief appearance by Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, who looks extremely strange. While more dedicated fans are well aware of the Green Lanterns and their stories, casual audiences have only seen one Green Lantern in the film starring Ryan Reynolds. This has led to confusion about why Fillion looks the way that he does in the 2025 Superman movie. Notably, there are comic book, and other precedents, to examine here.

The first trailer for James Gunn's "Superman" introduces the bold new DC Universe, and with it, a number of its powerful players. The meat and mead of the film may be the classic Superman mythos characters like the Man of Steel himself (David Corenswet), Lois Lane (Rachel Broshahan), Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) -- and let's not forget the most adorable DC character out there, Krypto the Superdog. However, the trailer also introduces several heroes whose main link to Superman is the Justice League.
In Gunn's Dcu, this mighty superhero team-up doesn't exist quite yet, to the point that Superman is the only member of the team's DC Extended Universe-era makeup that's currently an active Dcu player. However, many of the ancillary superhero characters in the trailer have a long history with the Justice League, and may very well end up joining Superman as its members during Gunn's Dcu tenure.

The first trailer for James Gunn's "Superman" is here, but more heroes than David Corenswet's Man of Steel appear. After all, this movie is launching the new silver screen DC Universe. We'd known from previous casting news which heroes would be appearing in "Superman," and the trailer showed some of them in costume. Among them is Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, one of the many heroes named Green Lantern.
Fillion is a friend of director James Gunn who often appears in his movies. No surprise the actor has a supporting part in "Superman," but Fillion as a Green Lantern is a casting choice that has a lot of history.
In the early 2000s, Nathan Fillion was a popular choice to play Hal Jordan in a "Green Lantern" film; with people even making fanmade trailers with Fillion in the role.

The death of comic books has been foretold for many years, but just like the superheros and villains it chronicles, the medium always returns, sometimes bolder than before.
Sales from comic books and graphic novels tumbled 7 percent in 2023 (falling from $2.01 billion in 2022 to $1.87 billion) — according to an estimate from ICv2, a website that tracks industry sales. This year, however, the industry bounced back in a big way. Though final numbers aren’t yet available, sales are believed to be up.
No one had a bigger year, arguably, than DC, which launched several publishing initiatives, new product lines, and new distribution channels.
“DC lost market share and had multiple downsizings in recent years,” notes Milton Griepp of ICv2. “They had a long way to come back from and they’re showing signs of life. They definitely had a great year.”

Zack Snyder is arguably one of the great directors in Hollywood with millions of fans and an equal amount of haters. The director is known for often breaking the rules while making a film.

Well, not just once but Snyder may have broken the rules of DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures twice throughout his brief time in the Dceu. These rule breaks, however, were nothing short of ordinary.
Zack Snyder refused to finish the movie
Not like a cliffhanger ending where nothing gets resolved but the 300 director refused to direct a film that had a satisfying end. This seemed to be the case for one of the most controversial films released: Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Zack Snyder has always been a visionary when it comes to expansive storytelling. His hold over comic book lore and the cinematic medium combined to give the audience and the studios an unprecedented experience that almost launched a rebellion across the globe for the sake of one film.

The five-part Justice League story that he had cooked up for the fans of the grimdark universe was to remain in the shadows, forever festering like an old untreated wound. However, Snyder has managed to outlive and outgrow the controversy and scandal wrought on by the DC Extended Universe.
In the aftermath, the director found himself accepting the possibility that he would never again visit the DC universe. As such, it was an easy decision to spoil the rest of his Justice League story, which was set to complete his five-part Dceu trilogy.

With production on DC Studios' Lanterns HBO/Max series set to commence very soon, we may have our first glimpse of the look star Kyle Chandler will be rocking as veteran ring-slinger, Hal Jordan.
The Friday Night Lights alum posed for a photo with a fan that was shared on social media, and, as we expected, it looks like Chandler's take on Jordan will be inspired by the Earth One version of the character from Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko's 2018 series.
Of course, there's always a chance Chandler will completely change his appearance prior to filming, but since the actor doesn't usually wear a full beard between roles, we'd day there's a good chance this is indeed his Hal Jordan look.
Chandler will star alongside Aaron Pierre, who will play John Stewart in the show.

DC has just dropped a bombshell: three unexpected Justice League heroes are even more invulnerable than Superman—at least in one surprising scenario. But this revelation is already sparking debate among fans, as past canon suggests that two of these heroes should share the same vulnerability as the Man of Steel when it comes to this mysterious magical artifact.

The news that Mufasa: The Lion King star Aaron Pierre will play the Dcu's John Stewart in Lanterns was met with a positive response from fans. The actor is a powerhouse talent and cemented himself as an action movie badass with Netflix's Rebel Ridge.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pierre was asked whether he's watched the 2011 Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds.
"I haven't seen that, no," he admitted before adding that it's "most definitely" on his to-watch list as he continues doing a deep-dive into all-things Green Lantern as preparation for his DC Studios role. While Pierre hasn't watched that movie, he is familiar with a DC property that many feel delivered the best take on John.

Friday Night Lights is getting the reboot treatment, and Deadline reports that Peacock has scooped up the project after a competitive bidding war with Netflix.
This new iteration will “be set following a devastating hurricane, when a rag tag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship and become a beacon of light for their town.“
The franchise is based on the non-fiction novel Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team and a Dream by H.G. Bissinger. Peter Berg directed a feature film based on the novel in 2004, which starred Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Derek Luke, Garrett Hedlund, Jay Hernandez, and more. Two years later, Berg developed the acclaimed TV series of the same name. DC’s bold and highly controversial decision to age Jon Kent into a young adult in mainstream continuity dealt a major blow to Superboy and Robin’s once-iconic friendship. Left in Super Sons withdrawal, I thought nothing could fill the void—until one comic gave me a new 'Super Friends' duo to obsess over.
...we might witness the rise of a new hero trinity: Robin, Superboy, and Thunderheart.
One of my biggest gripes with DC will forever be their decision to age Jon Kent up, effectively destroying his friendship with Damian Wayne. To me, the bond between Superboy and Robin was so much more than two super kids having wild adventures—it allowed both Jon and Damian to truly flourish in each other’s company.
While both characters have developed relationships with others over the years, I’ve always felt unsatisfied.

Epic DC fan art shows what Ben Affleck's Batman would have looked like if he wielded a Green Lantern ring in the Snydeverse's Knightmare timeline, seen in the Dceu's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Batman has a nightmare where an evil Superman rules the world with an iron fist. Zack Snyder's Justice League confirmed that the Knightmare timeline is real, and that it can only be avoided by preventing Superman from being corrupted by Darkseid and the Anti-Life Equation.
On Instagram, artist Sebastian Escobar shares a piece of fan art centered on Ben Affleck's Batman, who's wearing his trenchcoat and goggles from the Snyderverse's Knightmare timeline and wielding a Green Lantern ring. Zack Snyder's Justice League featured two Green Lanterns: the warrior Yalan-Gur in a flashback scene, and the famous Green Lantern Kilowog in a Knightmare scene.

The Marvel Studios fanfare is nothing short of iconic and there's been a lot of excitement and intrigue surrounding what DC Studios will come up with for the Dcu.
We got our first glimpse of it before Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, though there was speculation at the time that the relatively simple intro would perhaps change from project to project depending on the character.
A fan on social media website Bluesky recently asked Gunn, "I was surprised to see the Superman DC ID at the start. Will all DC stuff use the Superman ID, or will the character featured change based on [the] project?" To that, he responded, "He's our MGM lion. It will usually be him."

As the Dcu’s first show, Creature Commandos, may be setting up multiple upcoming projects, including Wonder Woman’s yet-to-be-announced solo project and her prequel show, Paradise Lost. James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie will establish David Corenswet’s Superman as the face of the Dcu. Later down the line, Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold will introduce the Dcu’s Batman. Apart from John Stewart and Hal Jordan’s debut in Lanterns, other regular founding members of the Justice League like the Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman are still lacking their own Dcu projects.
Although the first wave of projects in the Dcu’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter don’t include any Wonder Woman solo movie or show, they do include a Wonder Woman-adjacent prequel series, Paradise Lost, which will center around Themyscira a.k.a Paradise Island, and will probably have multiple Amazons as its main characters.

Pierre shared a brief response on social media when his casting was announced, but has now addressed his upcoming Dcu debut in a little more detail during an interview with ComicBook.com.

In a recent podcast, James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, described a playful talk with actor Ryan Reynolds about his return to the DC Universe. This conversation centred on Reynolds’ widely criticized performance in the 2011 picture Green Lantern.

Although Ryan Reynolds united several familiar faces in Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s one superhero not even James Gunn could convince him to revive.
The DC boss revealed that he jokingly asked Reynolds about potentially slipping on his power ring and reprising his role as the Green Lantern after taking over at DC Studios with Peter Safran in 2022.

Reynolds’ response should come as no surprise after the credits scene of Deadpool 2 (2018) saw his titular mercenary go back in time to shoot the actor in the head before he had a chance to accept the starring role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern.

Aaron Pierre is sharing his thoughts on playing John Stewart in HBO’s DC series Lanterns.
In a new interview, Pierre noted his excitement over bringing to life the superheroes in the new live-action series from the Green Lantern universe.
“What I can tell you is that the team are just super, super excited to have this opportunity to bring this story to the people,” Pierre told ComicBook. “And, so far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna do my very best to serve and honor and elevate in any way I can, John Stewart and the [Green Lantern] Corps. Hopefully, I serve that and it resonates with me.”
Pierre said he was doing “extensive” work to prepare for the role where he will share credits with Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.

James Gunn is building a new cinematic universe called the Dcu, which will replace the old Dceu. The Dcu officially began with Creature Commandos, but Gunn and Safran have said that Superman, releasing in 2025, will be the true start of the Dcu.
Right now, Peacemaker season 2 is in production, and a new TV show called Lanterns is being developed, featuring three Green Lanterns: Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan.
It’s also been announced that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will begin production in January 2025 and is set to release in 2026. Gunn explained that just because a project is on the release schedule, it doesn’t mean it will definitely be released. This is because Gunn insists on having a completed script before production starts, and if the script isn’t good enough, the project won’t move forward.
Along with Supergirl, fans can expect upcoming projects like Paradise Lost,...

Right now, Peacemaker Season 2 is being filmed, and another exciting project, Lanterns, is in development. This show, inspired by True Detective, will focus on three famous Green Lanterns: Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan.
It was recently announced that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will start production in January 2025 and is set to release in 2026. However, James Gunn clarified that just because a project is on the release schedule doesn’t guarantee it will happen.
