Saturday Night would make for a very solid double-bill with a Muppets movie. And not just because there are Muppets in it — well, primitive Muppets, at least, in the form of early Jim Henson creations King Ploobis and Vazh. Because much like one of Kermit and co’s capers, it’s all about putting on a show, and how much stress, anxiety and arm-flapping goes into playing music and lighting lights. At the centre of Jason Reitman’s movie, essentially playing the role of the frog, is the cardigan-wearing Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle), young Canadian TV producer and wannabe revolutionary of the medium. He’s the sensible one. Around him swirls chaos, in many forms. There’s even an Animal stand-in, in the burly shape of John Belushi (Matt Wood), cocaine appreciator and walking tornado.

Iconic American comedy show Saturday Night Live turns 50 this year, kicking off the celebrations is a four part documentary.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Saturday Night Live is responsible for launching the careers of a huge amount of American comedy talent, from the early days with Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase, John Belushi, and Bill Murray, through eras with the much missed Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Molly Shannon, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and many, many more.
This month sees the release of Saturday Night in the UK, following its release in the US last year. It’s a new film from Jason Reitman, who co-wrote the script with Gil Keenan, and it dramatizes the chaotic, stressful ninety minutes leading up to the very first show in 1975. Saturday Night filmmaker Jason Reitman received quite a critical review for his film from one of the original SNL castmembers.
During a recent episode of the Fly on the Wall podcast, the director revealed Chevy Chase’s reaction to the movie, prefacing, “Chevy loves to say the thing you’re not supposed to say.” The film follows the chaotic 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of SNL in 1975.
“So, Chevy comes in to watch the movie, and he is there with [wife] Jayni and they watch the film, and he’s in the group, and he comes up to me after and he pats me on the shoulder and goes, ‘Well, you should be embarrassed,’” Reitman recalled to hosts David Spade and Dana Carvey.
As everyone bursts out in laughter, Spade said, “You couldn’t even write it better.” Carvey added that Chase “knows that’s funny, like that’s...

Although Jason Reitman has earned rave reviews for his depiction of the 90 minutes leading up to the first Saturday Night Live, some critiques sting a bit more than others.
The Saturday Night co-writer and director recently revealed original SNL cast member Chevy Chase‘s reaction to the film, which fellow sketch comedy alum David Spade called “an exact Chevy thing” to say.

Rovaniemi, Finland, sometimes known as the “official hometown of Santa Claus,” presents an exquisite setting for The Finnish Line. This film combines the chilly thrill of dog sled racing with the warmth of winter tradition.
The film occurs during the Joulurauha race, a three-day, 300-mile sled dog competition that winds through Finland’s snow-covered wilderness. This isn’t just an ordinary race; it’s steeped in mythology, with some claiming it follows the same route Santa used to practice for his global Christmas Eve journey.
At the heart of the story is Anya Kivela (Kim Matula), an Arizona-based dog sled racer who goes to her late father’s birthplace to honor his legacy by racing in the same race that ended his career. However, this is not just a sports film.

In taking on the role of Gilda Radner in Jason Reitman’s film Saturday Night, British actress Ella Hunt was stepping into the shoes of a beloved U.S. treasure and a Saturday Night Live-verse she herself had not grown up with. In Saturday Night, Reitman details the hours approaching the very first broadcast of SNL—resulting in a fast-paced, comedic romp in which chaos reigns. For Hunt, it was not only a case of working through the character development with no long-held cultural connection to Radner, but also of honoring her in a way that resonated with all the SNL viewers who’ve loved her for so long.

In Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night,” we meet the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players mere minutes before they revolutionize comedy — and television itself — with their live, late-night NBC variety show dreamed up by an inscrutable Canadian named Lorne Michaels. Buzzing with nervous energy, the film tick-tocks through the chaotic final 90 minutes before the first episode of “Saturday Night Live” (which at that point didn’t have the “Live” in its title) hits the air on October 11, 1975.

Love is in the air for The Bold and the Beautiful star Annika Noelle.
She plays Hope Logan on the hit CBS soap, and while her character on the show may not be lucky in love, Annika doesn’t have that issue.
Earlier this week, news broke that her boyfriend-turned-fiance, John Patrick Amedori, popped the question.
For the most part, Annika keeps her life private. She doesn’t share much on social media; when she does, it is modeling shots or things she enjoys.
The proposal was romantic and perfect, according to the soap star.
To share their big news, the newly engaged couple talked to People about last month’s special moment.
Annika Noelle is engaged to John Patrick Amedori
The Bold and the Beautiful star and the actor/musician gave the publication the exclusive on their engagement.
Annika Noelle couldn’t wait to gush about her fiance, John Patrick Amedori.

If you’re interested in American comedy, you must have heard of SNL at some point in your life. Launched in 1975, this NBC sketch comedy show became a cultural touchstone, crafted by baby boomers and adored by Gen X and millennials throughout their formative years. Now, five decades after its inception, people understand its influence on the American comedy. While the SNL sketches impacted other forms of comedy like movies and sitcoms for decades, it is now borrowing its style of humor from other formats to satisfy another generation of viewers. Be that as it may, it is fascinating to learn about its foundation through Jason Reitman’s exhilarating “Saturday Night” (2024). While calling it a formative moment in American comedy will be reductive considering the history of this form, it is certainly a milestone that shaped generations of comedic minds to come. Find the film’s ending explained here.

Hope for the Future is canceled. Of course, this isn’t the first time the collection has been pulled from Forrester Creations. The couture line has been through its share of ups and downs over the years on The Bold and the Beautiful.
What hasn’t helped is Hope’s identity to the brand. She lost her sense of self after her divorce from Liam. Hope jumped from man to man instead of focusing on herself like she said she would. Now, she doesn’t get the opportunity to reinvent herself.
What is Hope For the Future?
Hope for the Future was a couture collection gifted to Hope (Kim Matula) by her aunt Katie (Heather Tom). At the time, Forrester Creations was a subsidiary of Forrester Creations. Hope didn’t have experience in business acumen, fashion design, or modeling. But that didn’t stop her from getting her visions out there.

The Bold and the Beautiful sees Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) deal with a setback because Hope for the Future (Hftf) can’t retain buyers. It seems to be a design fail. Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) told her father, Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) the issues. This comes after a loyal repeat buyer did not want the new collection.

The ad concept turned into a full fashion line. But Hope is not a designer and never has been.

Longtime friends and collaborators, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, reunite once more in this new biopic, charting the explosive birth of the iconic Saturday Night Live comedy program on the US TV network NBC.
Set in the frantic 90 minutes before the show’s inaugural episode aired, Saturday Night expertly captures the unpredictable, high-stakes nature of live television, weaving in biting humour, personal conflicts, and the birth of a cultural phenomenon.
Reitman and Kenan’s script balances tension and comedy, paying homage to the anarchic energy of SNL’s origins while offering insight into the fragile egos, narcotic excesses and volatile personalities that shaped its creation.
The film opens on October 11, 1975, with a visibly stressed Lorne Michaels, portrayed with nuance and gravitas by The Fabelmans star Gabriel Labelle, entering NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza in preparation for the first show. Outside he is greeted by a stressed out NBC page (Stanger Things...

In Saturday Night, J.K. Simmons plays Milton Berle, a real-life TV personality who is unabashedly arrogant; the real Berle was actually banned from Saturday Night Live. The recent comedy Saturday Night tells the story of the chaotic first episode of SNL. Starting from 90 minutes before the show to the opening sketch, the movie depicts the show's original cast and its creator, Lorne Michaels. Milton Berle was an actor and comedian known as "Mr. Television." Berle's career spanned his entire life, from performing on stage as a child to hosting the variety show, Texaco Star Theater. Berle was considered the very first television star, which is what earned him his nickname. Although she’s a film star now, Kim Matula hasn’t forgotten her The Bold and the Beautiful roots. Her role as Hope is a topic of conversation that Matula is happy to discuss. Recently, the actress shared her opinion on the famous Hope and Liam romance.
Is Lope The New Bridge?
Hope and Liam’s (Scott Clifton) relationship began fourteen years ago, and it’s been filled with ups and downs. Like many soap opera couples, they’ve split up multiple times, mainly because of Liam’s other love, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).
Despite the drama and heartache, the couple always finds their way back to each other. With over a decade of captivating viewers with their love story, many believe Lope has earned supercouple status. Yet, others aren’t ready to bestow that honor to the pair.
Matula is one of the people who believes Lope is a B&b supercouple.

Editors Nathan Orloff and Shane Reed were given a new kind of experimental freedom on “Saturday Night,” Jason Reitman’s behind-the-scenes re-enactment of how NBC’s revolutionary late-night sketch comedy show made its live debut on October 11, 1975.
By following anxious producer Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle) as he guides his cast and crew through rehearsals, the editing duo (who previously cut Reitman’s “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”) essentially make audiences into a fly on the wall during the make or break 90-minute lead up to showtime. Making it all the more interesting, of course, is that the soon-to-be-legendary, “Not Ready for Prime Time Players,” consists of Dan Aykroyd (Dylan O’Brien), John Belushi (Matt Wood), Chevy Chase (Cory Michael Smith), Jane Curtin (Kim Matula), Garrett Morris (Lamorne Morris), Laraine Newman (Emily Fairn), and Gilda Radner (Ella Hunt).
“It was really about the availability of bandwidth,” Reed told IndieWire. “Nathan was on set and I was cutting from L.

Dylan O'Brien has two new movies connecting with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, as the actor returns to film in a big way after a brief two-year gap. Although he co-led the 2023 political satire Maximum Truth, the Teen Wolf alum has largely stepped away from major roles since 2022's The Outfit and Not Okay. O'Brien is back doing press tours for two very different films: the mystery thriller Caddo Lake and the comedy Saturday Night, in which he plays Dan Ackroyd and which focuses on the premiere episode of Saturday Night Live.
Both movies are gaining approval on Rotten Tomatoes. Saturday Night, directed by Jason Reitman, has a slight edge with an 87% audience score based on more than 250 ratings. Caddo Lake, which is written and directed by Celine Held and Logan George, with M. Night Shyamalan as one of the producers, is not too far behind with 82% based on more than 250 ratings.

Despite being born and spending much of my life on the other side of the Atlantic, I’ve always been a fan of Saturday Night Live. The live format, which not only allows for constant improvisation but also for countless memorable moments of actors breaking character, is immensely appealing, as is the show’s structure – a collection of distinct sketches with musical performances. So naturally, a film based on the pilot episode, specifically the 90 minutes leading up to the broadcast, caught my attention.
Saturday Night is the title of the movie and was also the name of the original show due to a conflict with another late-night program, Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. After that show was canceled, SNL adopted the title it’s known by today, becoming a cultural phenomenon that, despite having its greatest impact in its home country, still crossed borders and reached audiences everywhere. Nick De Semlyen’s informative book “Wild and Crazy Guys” ostensibly has the same goal as Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night: fleshing out the legends that shaped the landscape of American comedy for decades to come, beginning with the hectic birth of the seemingly immortal sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live.” But De Semlyen’s own analysis of the field doesn’t begin right at the beginning; the prologue of his book opens not with a play-by-play of the moments leading to SNL’s first episode, but rather an infamous moment in the show’s second season, in which new troupe member Bill Murray got into a backstage fistfight with former cast superstar (and then-host) Chevy Chase, mere moments before the episode went live.
With one simple anecdote, De Semlyen lays the foundation for a potent examination of the chaos and lacking professionalism that made this era of comedy so refreshing,...

It was no small feat to get “Saturday Night Live” off the ground at NBC, and as a result, the cast of “Saturday Night” is pretty huge. In many cases, the actors also look eerily similar to the people they’re playing.
Hitting theaters everywhere on Oct. 11 after a limited theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles, Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” tells the story of the 90 minutes right before the first-ever episode of “SNL.” It’s chaotic and at the time, even Lorne Michaels couldn’t explain what the show was going to be.

Jason Reitman's superb "Saturday Night" features 80 speaking parts, along with dozens of background actors, and a camera that effortlessly weaves through a busy set while capturing the disorderly and anarchic production of the first episode of "Saturday Night Live." That required a lot of meticulous planning, especially when there are long single-take shots that move seamlessly throughout a set that has no edge of frame, which means that everything on that set was designed as if all of it could be seen on camera in any given moment. But even with such careful organization needed to realize this hilarious, frenzied chronicle of showbiz history, Reitman still had moments of last minute inspiration, and one of them resulted in a key scene that serves as a significant moment of realization for showrunner Lorne Michaels (played by "The Fablemans" star Gabriel Labelle).

In 2008, director Jason Reitman lived his “SNL” dream.
He was fresh off the success of “Juno,” which earned Reitman a Best Director Oscar nomination and the film a Best Picture nomination. His agent reached out to Lorne Michaels and relayed Reitman’s wish — to do a guest writing stint on “Saturday Night Live.” And, incredibly, it happened.
“It was like getting to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers for one night,” Reitman told TheWrap. He and “SNL” writer Simon Rich stayed up until four in the morning on a Tuesday night working on ideas. On Wednesday, they took their three sketch ideas to the table read. “And then later that afternoon I got to be there for the moment when they come out of Lorne’s office and pinned a piece of paper to the wall,” Reitman said. That’s when he found out that one of his sketches...

Plot: In the ninety minutes before the live airing of the first episode of Saturday Night Live, a young Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle) desperately tries to keep NBC from pulling the plug while dealing with a cast, writers and crew in open rebellion.
Review: Comedy would be very different nowadays if not for Saturday Night Live‘s impact. Most noteworthy comedy film stars of the last four decades emerged from their ranks, and nearly fifty years since its premiere, it remains as vital as ever. Yet, the making of the show itself had become an almost mythological tale, with it a known fact that the young Lorne Michaels had to overcome overwhelming odds to make the show in the first place.
What Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night does is that it distills most of the big challenges Michaels had to overcome into one ninety-minute period. It’s a conceit that...

Ah, the weekend, a time to kick back and relax after the drudgery of the nine-to-fives grind. Well, that’s the case for most of us. For the folks working at “30 Rock” in the “Big Apple” it’s truly “crunch time” Most weeks, that is. And it all started exactly 49 years ago. That’s when one of the “big three” networks (in those “prehistoric’ times before cable and streaming), the National Broadcasting Company decided to gamble on a risky concept, one that was once the “norm” nearly twenty years prior. Back in the 1950s almost everything on the tube (other than creaky old movies) was aired live. But with the advent of video tape, most of the...

Rachel Sennott didn’t get into the premier sketch comedy group during her tenure at NYU. Now she’s playing one of the architects of the world’s most famous sketch comedy show in Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night. Co-written by the latter and Gil Kenan, the biographical comedy-drama chronicles the messy 90-minute period before the first episode of Saturday Night Live on Oct. 11, 1975. Sennott portrays writer Rosie Shuster, who’s also the first wife of SNL creator Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle). And much like their ambitious attempt to shake up NBC’s Saturday night programming, their marriage, as depicted in the film, is in a similarly fragile, yet oddly collaborative, state.
In contrast with a lot of her castmates, Sennott didn’t have a great deal of existing material to reference during prep, but she did have the ultimate resource one phone call away.
“I spoke to Rosie, which was amazing.
