DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot” swept the 50th Annie Awards on Saturday, winning nine major awards and solidifying its position as a frontrunner in this year’s animation race. The film’s remarkable performance at UCLA’s Royce Hall was briefly interrupted by an unexpected fire alarm but continued without further incident.

Director Chris Sanders’ animated feature won in every category for which it was nominated, matching Pixar’s “Coco” as one of the most successful films in the awards’ recent history. Lupita Nyong’o claimed the voice acting award for her performance as Roz, the robot protagonist.

The DreamWorks Animation and Universal release dominated a ceremony that was at one point interrupted by a fire alarm that caused Royce Hall to be evacuated. It won Best Feature and also took awards for direction, FX, character animation, character design, music, production design, voice acting and editorial. It went into the show with 10 nominations and won in every category in which it was nominated, with its only loss coming in the voice-acting category, where one “The Wild Robot” actor, Kit Connor, lost to another, Lupita Nyong’o.

Netflix’s video game adaptation “Arcane” led the TV/Media categories with seven. But Saturday’s ceremony didn’t go off without a hitch, as a pair of fire alarms went off at the venue, UCLA’s, Royce Hall, including one that interrupted the ceremony.

A fire alarm went off about halfway through the ceremony, causing attendees to evacuate the theater and exit the building before returning to their seats and resuming the show. A second fire alarm went off during the pre-show reception, keeping hundreds of guests waiting on the grounds and unable to enter the event for roughly 45 minutes. “There was a sensor that was tripped and then had to act and get everybody out. Once the fire marshal said it was clear, we could go back in.

There’s something special about DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which earned three Oscar nominations for Animated Feature, Sound and Original Score.

“I knew from the moment I read the book that we had to move in a completely new direction in order to faithfully get this narrative up on the screen,” writer-director Chris Sanders says during a panel for Deadline’s Contenders Film: The Nominees.

One of the more unique aspects of the film is the lack of dialogue, which allowed for more reliance on sound design and score. Even in the beginning of the film, only the main character Roz, voiced by Lupita Nyong’o, has dialogue.

The 41-year-old Oscar-winning actress stepped out for the 2025 Critics Choice Awards on Friday (February 7) at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Calif.

Last month, a rumor did the rounds that Marvel Studios was planning to recast the role of T'Challa, bringing a new actor in to play the McU's original Black Panther five years after the death of Chadwick Boseman.

The original report stated that Marvel is "looking to recast its Black Panther hero T'Challa ahead of the two Avengers movies and Ryan Coogler's Black Panther 3," but we would later hear that studio was actually in the process of casting an actor for the role of Black Panther's son (also named T'Challa), who was introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever.

Marvel's VP of Production & Development Nate Moore was asked about the possibility of a new T'Challa being introduced during an interview with ComicBook.com, and while he did initially appear to debunk the reports, it doesn't sound like the idea has been completely dismissed.

Christopher Nolan is currently busy perfecting his star cast for his upcoming movie, ‘The Odyssey.’ The feature film is an adaptation of the Greek epic poem written by Homer. The storyline revolves around the Greek King Odysseus and his struggle-filled journey to his home in Ithaca from the Trojan War. On that 10-year journey, Odysseus had to face many hurdles and interruptions from many people (including Gods). The plot also covers how his wife and son deal with aggressive suitors while the King has been away from his kingdom.

However, while death is final in the real world, it's seemingly only a temporary state of being in genre fiction. That's especially true in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as demonstrated by the numerous resurrections in "Avengers: Endgame" alone. One of the most fun news threads of late 2024 was getting a weekly (or sometimes daily) casting announcement for Christopher Nolan’s planned take on The Odyssey. It ran through October to the year’s end. Along with all sorts of wild speculation about the nature of the project, gave us a kind of longer version of an advent calendar where a new name would be waiting for us every morning.

And what names! We’ll get to the full cast list in a moment, but before we do, let’s take a look at some of the new additions that have reportedly been added to the ranks. Deadline has stated that Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton and Bill Irwin have now joined the ever-growing ensemble.

The Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan has been assembling one of the most impressive casts we've seen in quite a while for his upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey, and Elliot Page (The Umbrella Academy) is the latest actor to join the ensemble.

We don't actually know who anyone is playing, but Damon and Holland are said to be the leads, which would suggest that the former will play Odysseus and the Spider-Man star his son, Telemachus.

Christopher Nolan has is taking four more actors on his hero’s journey — and most are familiar faces to his world.
