Disney is fast-tracking the filmed version Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton and will release the Broadway smash on Disney+ over Independence Day holiday weekend on July 3.

The feature had been set for October 15, 2021 after Disney reportedly paid a gargantuan $75m for the rights. It marks the latest title to be rushed to the platform and satisfy a growing subscriber base amid the coronavirus pandemic. Broadway theatres will not reopn until September 7 in the Us, and there is speculation they may remain closed until early next year.

The Walt Disney Company, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jeffrey Seller and Thomas Kail are pleased to announce that Disney+ will fast track the premiere of the filmed version of the original Broadway production of “Hamilton,” bringing the 11-time-Tony Award®-, Grammy Award®-, Olivier Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical to homes around the world on July 3, 2020.

Producers for “Hamilton,” the film of the original Broadway production, include Miranda, Seller, and Kail, who also directs.

The film is a leap forward in the art of “live capture” which transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way. Combining the best elements of live theater, film, and streaming, the result is a cinematic stage performance that is a wholly new way to experience “Hamilton.”

“No other artistic work in the last decade has had the cultural impact of ‘Hamilton’—an inspiring and captivating tale told and performed in a powerfully creative way.

The filmed version of “Hamilton” will premiere July 3, 2020 on Disney+, creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Disney boss Bob Iger said Tuesday on “Gma.”

That is way earlier than the initial plan called for: “Hamilton” was slated to hit theaters on Oct. 15, 2021, and then land on Disney+ sometime later.

The version subscribers will see was filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre over the course of three days in June 2016. That means Miranda and the original principal players will be seen in their starring roles.

One little girl got the virtual-surprise of a lifetime on Sunday night’s edition of John Krasinski’s new YouTube series “Some Good News.”

Krasinski brought nine-year-old Aubrey onto the show to cheer her up after her dream of seeing “Hamilton” live in her home state of Florida, was dashed due to coronavirus-related cancellations.

On a scale of one to 10, Aubrey ranked her love of “Hamilton” at “a million.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda on Monday announced a filmed, movie version of his award-winning musical “Hamilton” featuring the original Broadway cast will be released by Disney in October 2021.

“Hamilton,” which was filmed on stage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre back in June 2016 when it won 11 Tony Awards, will hit theaters on Oct. 15, 2021.

Miranda is producing with Jeffrey Seller and Thomas Kail. Kail also directed the stage production as well as the film, which the studio described as a leap forward in the art of “live capture” aiming to give a cinematic experience of the stage show.
