These days, gay men can arrange sex by a smartphone app as easily as ordering a pizza. But back in the ’90s, when “Plainclothes” takes place, such trysts not only had to be coordinated in person, but could be punished by arrest. Audiences of a certain age and demographic almost certainly remember the risk and fear (not to mention the illicit excitement) back then, when undercover police monitored public “tearooms” for lewd behavior. In writer-director Carmen Emmi’s “we’ve come a long way, baby” debut, the cops take it one step further, luring homosexuals into exposing themselves.

But what if the officer in question was closeted and one of these strangers slipped him his phone number? That’s the intriguing — if credulity-stretching — premise of “Plainclothes,” which casts Tom Blyth (the outlaw star of Epix’s “Billy the Kid”) as Lucas, a second-generation cop with all kinds of identity issues.

Like “Cruising” for the 1990s New Queer Cinema set, Carmen Emmi’s feature debut “Plainclothes” features the most emotionally (and physically) naked performance yet from rising British star Tom Blyth. He plays Lucas, a rookie cop somewhere outside Syracuse assigned to post up in one of those bland, sad Malls of America, hoping to lure men into a toilet stall — and into exposing themselves or more.

This clandestine, bait-and-catch operation was the sort of problematic police procedure that got people like George Michael into trouble for lewd conduct. Here, it forms the basis of a thriller — and one with shades of romance when Lucas’ own secret attraction to men starts overtaking him. And especially in the form of Russell Tovey, sparking a hesitant hook-up and possible romance after Lucas catches Andrew (Tovey) in the bathroom, only to end up lingering too long.

Paramount+ today revealed the official trailer and premiere date for season two of its hit original drama series School Spirits. Produced by Awesomeness TV, the new season will debut on Thursday, January 30, with three episodes in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.

The season will also launch exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK and Australia on January 31, and later in the year in additional markets. Following the premiere, new episodes of the eight-episode season will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays, on Paramount+.

The streaming platform announced this morning that School Spirits Season 2 will premiere on Thursday, January 30, with a three-episode drop.

While we’re excited to get some much-needed resolution to the many mysteries School Spirits Season 1 threw our way, the fact that it premieres in just over a week is concerning.

Promotion can make or break any project, so announcing a premiere date this close to the debut date doesn’t instill hope that many people will find it.

School Spirits Season 1 had a devoted audience, but it’s hard to tell whether they’ll get the message in time that new episodes are available to devour.

Genre shows are disappearing before our very eyes, and the last thing we need is for School Spirits to face a similar fate.

The first season of Paramount+’s School Spirits ended with Maddie finally uncovering the secret to her death…and it turns out she’s not really dead after all. Janet, a ghost, took over Maddie’s body so she’s stuck in the afterlife, hanging out with others who’ve died at the high school. Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along was originally listed as a miniseries, but the fact that Disney submitted the show in the comedy categories for the upcoming awards season led to speculation that a second batch of episodes might be in development.

Rumors that a second season is in the planning stages soon followed, and while Marvel has yet to make it official, we will almost certainly see Miss Harkness in the MCU again in some capacity.

Recent rumors have claimed that Agatha All Along will return for a second batch of episodes, and while Marvel Studios has yet to make it official, the WandaVision spin-off - which was originally tagged as a miniseries - is now listed as "season 1" on Disney+.

We already had a pretty good idea that Marvel had plans to renew the series when Disney submitted it in the comedy categories for the upcoming awards season (star Kathryn Hahn was recently nominated for a Golden Globe), since the Television Academy’s criteria for limited series state: “The program must tell a complete, non-recurring story and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”

The season finale concluded with Agatha Harkness (Hahn) sacrificing herself to save Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke) by planting a kiss on her former lover Rio Vidal, aka Death (Aubrey Plaza).

Artist Daniel Selon has taken to Instagram to share some of his concept art for Aubrey Plaza's Rio Vidal in the outfit she wore during her fight with Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) towards the end of the series premiere of Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along.

This design isn't a million miles away from the costume that made it to the screen, but there are a few subtle diffrences, with the hood pulled back to show more of Rio's hair and the sash slightly higher on her chest. The final look also reveals more of the character's ribs.

The audience ostensibly tags along to a chaotic yuletide party hosted by the matriarch of the Balsano family, which is attended by every conceivable far-flung relative.

Filmmaker Tyler Taormina quickly fell in love with IFC Films’ idea for how to market his merry-and-bright feature. The indie distributor’s trailer for “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” plays as a full-on throwback to how holiday season comedies used to be advertised, complete with baby boomer doo-wop, a long list of grinning cast members and a warm narrator promising that, “It’s more than a holiday. It’s a gift for the whole family.” But the nostalgic packaging came with an unforeseen side effect.

“A lot of the people online are like, ‘Oh, I thought it was a horror movie.’ It was a very common reaction that was not at all thought of,” Taormina shares. “Earnest nostalgia is not able to be detected. The irony is expected. It bummed me out.”

In Agatha All Along's finale, we learned more about Agatha Harkness' past and the truth about her son, Nicky (better known to comic book fans as Nicholas Scratch).

Just as Agatha was about to give birth, Death showed up to claim the child; however, the witch pleaded for more time and seemingly bought that by killing witches. On the one night - at Nicky's prompting - that she didn't, Death finally came for him and Agatha, ashamed of her actions, spent hundreds of years murdering her fellow magic-users on the "Witches' Road" to avoid being reunited with the boy.

Much has been said about who his father could be and, in a new interview, Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer dropped her biggest hint yet that Rio Vidal/Death conceived the child with the show's title character.

This is one of those not just set around the holiday, but about it, and scenes of family togetherness (both fuzzy and prickly) resonate beyond their moment. The other, however, is the snapshot ensemble movie, in which the moment is everything. We're with these people for one night of their lives, and the point is just to be with them, share this experience, and find meaning wherever we decide to see it.

Though the recent two-episode finale of Agatha All Along was seen as a fairly satisfying conclusion by a lot of viewers, some were left a little disappointed by the lack of any major reveals or cameos, and episode 9 included a plot twist that definitely didn't work for everyone.

Unlike the majority of Marvel Studios movies and shows, Agatha All Along did not feature a post-credits scene after the recent two-episode finale.

Showrunner Jac Schaeffer has confirmed that she did write "a number of post-credit scenes," which she has "done on every Marvel project [she's] ever worked on," but "ultimately, it was a Marvel decision not to have a tag on this show."

Now, scooper Mttsh has shared some details on two of the scrapped stingers, and, honestly, they don't sound particularly exciting.

The first would reportedly have caught up with Jennifer Kale as she searches for the doctor who she initially believed to be responsible for taking her powers, while the second saw Death follow Wiccan and Ghost Agatha into the portal as they embark on their quest to find Tommy Maximoff.

Before Agatha All Along launched on Disney+, many people repeatedly questioned why the show was happening and accused it of being "woke" for featuring female and gay leads. As a result, the majority of MCU fans braced themselves for another round of The Acolyte-style review-bombing.

For the most part, it never came; however, attempts were made as the show boasted a surprisingly low Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes the day before it premiered.

Week after week, Agatha All Along has proven itself a worthy successor to WandaVision and a story that was very much worth telling. That's evident from the fact it has the best Audience Score for any Phase 5 TV show!

The premiere of Agatha All Along began with "Detective Agnes" discovering Wanda Maximoff's dead body, and even though we never saw her face, a lot of fans expected Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch to show up in the recent finale.

The former Avenger never appeared, and we only got a vague update on her current MCU status (she's dead... unless she isn't?), and it sounds like enlisting Olsen for a cameo was never a real possibility.

While speaking to THR, showrunner Jac Schaeffer explained why she felt that bringing Wanda back for the finale would have ended up being detrimental to Agatha's story.

Disney+ has waved its magic wand to place “Agatha” in the comedy category.

Under the banner of Marvel Television Studios, the hit new spin-off series “Agatha All Along,” starring Kathryn Hahn, will be submitted in the comedy categories for the upcoming awards season, including the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and next year’s Emmy race, Variety has learned exclusively. The move aligns “Agatha” in a competitive lineup, as it will face acclaimed comedies like ABC’s “Abbott Elementary,” FX’s “The Bear” and HBO/Max’s “Hacks.”

This decision places Hahn in the running against heavyweights such as Jean Smart, Quinta Brunson, and Ayo Edebiri — who have each won the TV comedy actress race for their respective shows over the past three years. For Hahn, who’s never been nominated for a Globe, a mention could be pivotal as she seeks to make a mark at next year’s Emmys ceremony.

Agatha All Along proved to be a satisfying journey for fans, though the absence of characters like Mephisto, Speed (who was at least hinted at for a future story), and Hulkling did disappoint some.

There's plenty of time for them to appear in future stories, of course, and showrunner Jac Schaeffer has now confirmed there were once plans for Teddy Altman to appear in the WandaVision follow-up.

In fact, William Kaplan/Billy Maximoff's boyfriend, Eddie (Miles Gutierrez-Riley), was going to be called Teddy! Had that happened, we'd imagine his true identity as a Kree/Skrull hybrid would have been saved for a post-credits scene or something along those lines.

"There were early conversations [about Hulkling]," Schaeffer tells Entertainment Weekly. "[Eddie] was originally called Teddy because we were looking at the artwork and thinking about that. That was a Marvel decision to not have him be Hulkling for the purposes of our show."

Heading into Agatha All Along, we'd hoped that the series might clear up the Scarlet Witch's MCU status. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness strongly hinted that the Avenger died, though a red flash before Mount Wundagore collapsed pointed to her escaping that fate.

The WandaVision follow-up has established that Wanda Maximoff is "gone" but stopped short of revealing whether she's dead or alive.

Talking to Deadline, showrunner Jac Schaeffer said, "It’s my opinion - and these stories will move ahead, and who knows what it will be - it’s my opinion that Agatha does not know. And yeah, it’s my opinion that Rio does. I think the word 'gone' is important. I was instructed to use the word 'gone.'"

The prospect of a WandaVision spin-off focusing on scene-stealing witch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) may have seemed like a more appealing idea a few years ago, but even then, a lot of fans wondered what the point of a series revolving around this character was when there are better-known and more popular Marvel Comics heroes and villains that have yet to be given the spotlight.

Even so, the first two episodes proved to be surprisingly popular, and based on critical (the show's Rotten Tomatoes score has now gone from 67% to 83%) and audience responses, many would seem to agree that the series only increased in quality as it went on.

In last night's two-episode finale of Agatha All Along - you can read our in-depth recap here - we were treated to some huge revelations and surprises. Of course, among the biggest were those comic-accurate costumes.

Firstly, Billy Maximoff emerges from the Witches' Road with full control of his powers and suits up as Wiccan. Wearing a costume that's almost identical to his look on the page, Billy looked phenomenal in action, particularly with a crown - in place of a headband - that links him to his mother, the Scarlet Witch.

It didn't end with Billy, though. With Death unleashed, the true face of "Rio Vidal" is finally revealed and Marvel Studios has translated this character from the page to screen in a really exciting way.

There have been rumblings online we'll see her again, so the hope now is that she might serve as an ally to Robert Downey Jr....
