Slayer have added a pair of high-profile UK headlining gigs with a stacked support bill featuring Amon Amarth, Anthrax, Mastodon, Hatebreed, and Neckbreakker. The shows mark the legendary thrash band’s first non-festival concerts since reuniting last year.

The newly announced shows are set for July 3rd at Blackweir Fields in Cardiff, Wales; and July 6th in Finsbury Park, London. In addition, Slayer also recently announced that they will be performing at Festival d’été de Québec in Québec City on July 11th with direct support from Mastodon. Get tickets here.

After a successful inaugural edition last year, the Heavy Chicago festival is returning in 2024 on the weekend of November 1st at the Avondale Music Hall.

This year, the three-day metal festival will be headlined by Bongripper, Earth Crisis, and Cynic.

Tickets go on sale Friday (August 9th) at 10 a.m. Ct via the festival’s ticket provider, with increasing tiers of pricing as more are sold.

Friday’s lineup also includes a yet-to-be-announced “big surprise” local act (to be unveiled September 8th), in addition to Indiana speed metallers Wraith, long-running Chicago goth metal act Avernus (playing their first show in nine years), and Atlas Moth-associated project Motherless.

Saturday’s bill is rounded out by Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta performing with Legions of Doom, grindcore group EarthBurner, The Crosses playing a special Die Kreuzen set (with Dan Kubinski on vocals), and Usurper’s first show in five years.

Lou Koller, frontman for Sick of It All, has revealed that doctors have found a tumor in his esophagus. The long-running New York Hardcore band has subsequently canceled its upcoming European tour dates.

Koller’s brother Pete, who plays guitar in Sick of It All, has posted a GoFundMe to raise money for Lou’s medical care. “My big brother, Lou, has been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma cancer,” Pete wrote. Hatebreed are celebrating their 30th anniversary as a band by embarking on a Fall 2024 North American tour featuring support from Carcass, Harms Way, and Crypta.

Frontman Jamey Jasta and company will kick off the outing September 26th in Portland, Maine, and wrap things up October 27th in Norfolk, Virginia. Along the way, the veteran metal band will hit such markets as Boston, New York City, Toronto, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Seattle, and more.

The four-day fest will take place May 16th-19th at The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee. Other acts on the bill include Slaughter to Prevail, Deicide, Katatonia, Kamelot, Marduk, Possessed, Metal Church, Incantation, and more. Fresh off its maiden voyage, Lamb of God’s Headbangers Boat will set sail again in 2024. The band has officially announced that a second edition of the metal cruise will feature Dethklok, Chimaira, Poison the Well, At the Gates, and several more notable acts.

The cruise will depart from Miami on October 28th and make a stop at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, before returning to Miami on November 1st. Early signups are available now via the Headbangers Boat website, while the public onsale starts on Tuesday (November 21st) at 2 p.m. Et.

Lamb of God will once again headline the cruise, playing two sets. Additional acts include Soulfly, Exodus, Napalm Death, Corrosion of Conformity, After the Burial, Currents, Bleeding Through, Unearth, Eyehategod, Frozen Soul, UnityTX, and a solo set from Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton. Comedians Shayne Smith and Mike Abrusci will also be on board to perform standup sets.

Headbangers Boat, the inaugural metal cruise headlined by Lamb of God, experienced a tragic turn early Friday morning (November 3rd) when a 41-year-old male passenger went overboard. A search and rescue mission is currently underway.

In a statement provided to Rock Feed, a spokesperson for the Norwegian Cruise Line offered the following details:

“On the early morning of Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, Norwegian Pearl was notified that a 41-year-old male guest went overboard while the ship was sailing near the Bahamas on its way to Miami. The authorities have been notified and the United States Coast Guard search and rescue operation is underway. The investigation is ongoing, and we will share updates as appropriate. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Lamb of God’s inaugural Headbangers Boat cruise festival looks to have been a blast so far.

The cruise left port aboard the Norwegian Pearl on Halloween (October 31st) from Miami. We’ve already reported on Randy Blythe (dressed as Elvis) officiating a Halloween wedding aboard the ship, and elsewhere, footage from the boat has been nothing but good vibes.

For instance, a circle pit broke out in the hot tub during Hatebreed’s set. As captured by Heavy Consequence photographer Kevin Wilson, the hot tubbers set down their margaritas and shimmied to a particularly hooky breakdown.

To be honest, this is probably the chillest mosh in Hatebreed history — Jamey Jasta and company’s brand of beatdown hardcore is specifically geared to incite violent mosh pits. Nonetheless, the boat’s crew still put a stop to the hot tub circle pit after a song or two. Safety first!

Furnace Fest has unveiled its 2023 lineup, headlined by Turnstile, MxPx, Pennywise, and Bane.

Taking place within Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama, the festival has become an annual destination for fans of punk, hardcore, emo, and post-hardcore. This year’s iteration is set for the weekend of September 22nd through the 24th.

The 2023 lineup is Furnace Fest’s most high-profile collection of talent since returning in 2021. The fest originally ran from 2000 through 2003 before being revived in 2020 for a fifth edition, which was eventually postponed to 2021.

With yet another Friday the 13th upon us, it’s high time to dig into a now fairly-outmoded Hollywood practice, the synergistic soundtrack album, as it pertains to Camp Blood’s least favorite son. Today, we celebrate the Friday The 13th franchise by making a playlist of its top soundtrack slices.

As a series, Friday The 13th has run the musical gamut, kicking off at the tail end of disco (as the opening theme music of Friday The 13th Part III can attest), peaking during the hair metal ’80s, and then quite thoroughly exploring a renaissance in metal at the start of the 21st century.

Is this list solely a product of the personal taste of this horror and metal fan? Of course. As such, you’ll notice that Hot Ice does not make the cut. Several of the top entries in this list did not even occupy any pre-end credits screen time,...

Against all odds, and in the face of everything that is good and right, there are six Saw movies. Six.

Though the budgets continue to rise and the profits continue to fall, the Saw franchise is showing no signs of stopping. (There's another one in the works as we speak.)

Saw VI, the latest chapter in the hideously gory series, hit theaters in October of last year, and was recently released on DVD.

Now, before I go on, let me just say that I understand that the Saw franchise caters to a very specific audience, and makes no apologies for doing so. The people who watch (and enjoy) the movies can (and want to) sit through roughly an hour and a half of what is most accurately described as “torture porn.” (Other movies falling under this genre include the Hostel movies, Wolf Creek and From Justin to Kelly) This...

Chicago – “Saw VI” opens with two people in a race to cut off as much flesh as possible before time runs out. It’s gross. It’s nauseating. It’s exactly what fans of this franchise have been looking for and what its critics have derided. The twist is that these victims are a part of the current financial crisis, making their torture something audiences, many of which have been impacted through loss of income, would more likely cathartically enjoy.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0

Of course, despite the ripped-from-the-headlines twist, it’s the same old “Saw”. Almost. There are a few more interesting plot developments and a more accomplished pace that makes this film superior to at least the last three installments in the franchise, but considering those were all in the running for worst film of their individual years, that’s really not saying much. I loved the original Saw movie and all the others after it were a bit lame accept for Saw 6 which surprised the heck out of me. Saw 6 is coming to DVD January 26th and we have the specs for the bluray and DVD release. Saw 6 was a gorey and fun halloween film which was a marked improvement over Saw 5. I will be buying it when it hits DVD ( at least the discount bin ).
