Chris Pratt‘s upcoming sci-fi mystery thriller, Mercy, has been pushed from its August 2025 release date to January 2026, as per Deadline. The Amazon MGM Studios film is directed by Timur Bekmambetov and is based on a screenplay by Marco van Belle.

Mercy is set in the near future when capital crime has increased, and it follows a detective who must prove his innocence after he is accused of committing a violent crime.

Amazon MGM Studios has officially shifted the release date for Mercy, a sci-fi thriller starring Chris Pratt and directed by Timur Bekmambetov. Originally set to premiere on August 15, 2025, the movie will now hit theaters worldwide on January 23, 2026. This move clears the way for Universal’s action sequel Nobody 2 to take over the earlier date without competition.

Pratt stars as a detective in the near future, where violent crimes have surged. The plot revolves around his character being accused of a serious crime, forcing him to fight to prove his innocence.

The Oscar-winning actor is making his Broadway debut in the brand new play, which is being produced by Lincoln Center Theater in assocation with Team Downey.

Here’s a synopsis: “Jacob McNeal (Downey Jr.) is a great writer, one of our greatest, a perpetual candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. But McNeal also has an estranged son, a new novel, old axes to grind and an unhealthy fascination with Artificial Intelligence.”

Also starring in the play are Tony winners Andrea Martin and Ruthie Ann Miles, as well as Melora Hardin, Rafi Gavron, Brittany Bellizeare, and Saisha Talwar.

McNeal was written by Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar and features direction by Bartlett Sher. The limited engagement is running through November 24 at Lincoln Center Theater. Get tickets now, while you still can!

A new Broadway season has begun, and there are currently nine productions of plays set to open this fall. Could we see any of them contend at next year’s Tony Awards? “The Roommate” (opens September 12; closes December 15)

In this new play by Jen Silverman, Sharon has never had a roommate before. But after her divorce she needs a housemate to pay the bills. That’s when Robyn arrives. The story follows an unexpected, life-changing friendship that’s both funny and deeply moving between two very different middle-aged women as they navigate the complexities of identity, morality and the dream of reinvention.

The production stars Golden Globe winner Mia Farrow and three-time Tony winner Patti LuPone. It is directed by three-time Tony winner Jack O’Brien.

Andrea Martin, Melora Hardin and Ruthie Ann Miles have joined the Broadway cast of McNeal, starring Robert Downey Jr.

On Monday, the production also announced that “a highly realistic Metahuman Digital Likeness” of Downey will be used within the production, appearing alongside Downey himself. The technology was developed by Agbo, Anthony and Joe Russo’s independent studio and Downey.

The play, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar and directed by Bartlett Sher, is scheduled to play the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater starting Sept. 5, with an opening Sept. 30.

Additional cast members include Brittany Bellizeare (Flex), Rafi Gavron (A Star is Born) and Saisha Talwar.

The play sees Downey portraying a talented writer who grapples with a new novel, a broken family life and “an unhealthy fascination with artificial intelligence.”

Downey’s production company, Team Downey, is producing, in association with Lincoln Center Theater. The play will mark Downey’s Broadway debut.

“Mercy filming day 4,” he wrote on Ig Thursday next to a photo of his elevated ankle wrapped in an ice pack. “I have such a great stunt team! And I sometimes try to get in there and do some of my own stuff. Today, daddy caught a metal post to the ankle. Should be interesting moving forward.”

In a second photo, the ice pack is off to reveal a badly swollen and bruised ankle.

Over the last couple of days, Pratt has been snapped filming Mercy around Los Angeles doing his own stunts including him, dressed as an LAPD cop, chasing a guy in Malibu, with both of them ending up in the ocean.

Showtime has released an official trailer for Ghosts of Beirut, a four-part spy drama that revisits the true-life manhunt for the deadly Hezbollah mastermind Imad Mughniyeh, who killed more Americans than any other terrorist before 9/11 as he eluded the CIA and Mossad for over two decades.

“You push the button, and go to Paradise,” a voice-over in Arabic says at one point in the limited series trailer, as Mughniyeh, also known as the Ghost and played by Hisham Suleiman, sets up more deadly terrorist strikes.

The heart-pounding thriller comes from Fauda creators Avi Issacharoff and Lior Raz and will stream on Showtime May 19 before making its on-air debut May 21. Epix revealed that the second season of “Godfather of Harlem” will premiere on April 18. Set in 1964, the crime drama series explores the collision of the criminal underworld and civil rights movement. The second season will follow Bumpy Johnson (Forest Whitaker) battling the New York crime families for control of the French Connection, a pipeline for heroin that runs from Marseilles to New York Harbor. In addition to Whitaker as star and executive producer, the season will bring back Vincent D’Onofrio, Ilfenesh Hadera, Nigél Thatch, Giancarlo Esposito, Lucy Fry, Rafi Gavron and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy. When it comes to low-budget horror movies, even the good ones tend to slip by unnoticed, which probably explains why “Salem” creators Brannon Braga and Adam Simon were drawn to a brand name like Clive Barker’s “Books of Blood” to package their otherwise generic Hulu horror anthology. Less a proper feature than the ersatz pilot for an open-ended number of future installments, this three-part scare-fest uses the flesh-flaying title chapter in Barker’s 1984 short-story omnibus, “The Book of Blood,” to frame two lesser entries with no relation to the beloved pulp collection — which has spawned such films as “Rawhead Red,” “Candyman” and “The Midnight Meat Train.”

The cleverest trick about Braga and Simon’s adaptation may be the way it uses a super schlocky red herring to throw audiences off the scent of the title, which Barker himself has cheekily described as “Everybody is a book of blood; wherever we’re opened,...

Clive Barker’s horror is immediately recognizable. One of the most influential Gothic voices of the 1980s and ‘90s, his stories on the page and screen mingle body horror with kinky fatalism: pleasure and pain sprinkled with an undercurrent of happy self-annihilation. He wrote and directed the exceptionally perverse Hellraiser, and with his literary Books of Blood collection of horror short stories, he penned the origins for future movie cult classics like Candyman—as well as the less glowing adaptations of The Midnight Meat Train and Rawhide Rex.

I’d like to say Brannon Braga’s Hulu adaptation of several of those Books of Blood tales lands closer to the hypnotic thrall of Hellraiser or Candyman, but this messy and ultimately garish film goes down like ‘80s junk of the Rawhide variety. The arrival of Clive Barker’s Books of Blood in 1984 and 1985 was an earthshaking event in horror literature. No less an authority than Stephen King called Barker “the future of horror,” leading to a tsunami of acclaim for the six volumes of collected short stories. Barker’s vast imagination, his creation of new monsters that eclipsed standard fare like vampires and witches, and his visceral, blood-soaked prose were a jolt for the horror genre that probably influenced a generation of writers and filmmakers.

Speaking of the latter, a number of stories from the books were adapted for the screen, including the title tale itself (which acted as a framing device for all the stories), “The Midnight Meat Train,” “Dread,” and “The Forbidden,” the latter of which formed the basis of the soon-to-be-rebooted Candyman franchise. Barker himself directed Lord of Illusions, based on the Books of Blood story “The Last Illusion.

Hulu unveiled the first official trailer for Brannon Braga’s upcoming horror flick, Books of Blood, just in time for Halloween.

Based on Clive Barker's acclaimed and influential horror anthology book series, Books of Blood aims to take audiences on a journey into uncharted territory through three uncanny tales tangled in space and time.

Consisting of six books published between 1984-85, Books of Blood merges the supernatural with the occasional fantasy element mixed in, in the process building the psychological horror.

The anthology received rave reviews from critics and readers alike, with legend Stephen King calling Barker the “future of horror.”

The film was initially in talks to be depicted as a series for Hulu, but was later shifted to the movie concept.

Epix has renewed “Godfather of Harlem” for a second season. Forest Whitaker executive produces and stars as Bumpy Johnson on the ABC Signature Studios series.

The 10-episode sophomore season, created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, will begin production in New York later this year.

“‘Godfather of Harlem’ season one was a remarkable success, tripling previous viewership numbers for the network and earning acclaim from both critics and viewers alike,” said Michael Wright, president of Epix. “We couldn’t wait to reunite with Chris, Paul, Forest and the team at ABC Signature to continue telling this compelling and extremely relevant story.”
