Mike Disa's entertaining Postman Pat: The Movie is based on a long-running stop-motion BBC children's series which is hugely popular in the U.K. but has never quite made a dent in America, possibly because it's deeply British.

That Britishness hasn't been toned down for the domestic release of the feature film, including borderline ethnic jokes about the Irish and Scottish, and that's a good thing.

The setup is fairly standard: When Pat (Stephen Mangan) fails to receive the bonus he was going to use to take wife Sara (Susan Duerden) on an Italian vacation, he auditions for a Britain's Got Talent–type show, unexpectedly becoming a national celebrity and Losing Sight of the Things That Really Matter.

When adapting a children’s TV show that has an established, expectant audience in already in place, to fully succeed you need to ensure that you remain faithful to the tone and spirit of the much-loved series, and to enlarge cinematically with minimum contrivance. While Postman Pat’s debut on the silver screen may deliver in both aspects, it remains a somewhat alienating production as far as the parents are concerned, with little in here to appease all members of the family.

In Mike Disa’s endeavour, Pat’s journey does feel greater, with more dramatic implications to the narrative, to warrant this big screen release. Pat (Stephen Mangan), along with his trusty pet cat Jess, is determined to take his wife on a holiday to Italy. The Man Who Knew Infinity

Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel have joined "The Man Who Knew Infinity," a biopic of Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Matthew Brown will direct and penned the script based on Robert Kanigel's biography.

Irons will play G.H. Hardy, the English mathematician who brought Ramanujan (Patel) from India to Cambridge University. Edward R Pressman ("Reversal of Fortune") produces with shooting to begin next year. [Source: Screen]

Untitled Lance Armstrong Project

Dustin Hoffman has joined the cast of Stephen Frears' currently filming untitled Lance Armstrong project at StudioCanal and Working title. The production is about to head to the United States for its final bit of filming.

The story follows the career of Armstrong (Ben Foster) from his battle against cancer through his seven Tour de France victories and the doping scandal that brought him down. Lee Pace, Chris O’Dowd, Guillaume Canet and Jesse Plemons also star.

Boyzone frontman to provide the singing voice of Postman Pat in upcoming film.

Ronan Keating has joined the cast of the upcoming Postman Pat: The Movie.

Keating will provide the singing voice of Postman Pat in the big screen outing produced by Rgh Entertainment’s Robert Anich with Rubicon’s Randa Ayoubi and David Corbett.

Dreamworks Classics’ Eric Ellenbogen and Doug Schwalbe serve as executive producers.

Currently in production, the film is directed by Mike Disa from a screenplay co-written by the award-winning Kim Fuller, Annika Bluhm and Nicole Dubuc. The cast is led by Stephen Mangan as Postman Pat, with Jim Broadbent, Rupert Grint and David Tennant also set to star.

Having spent the last year sat in screening rooms and cinemas watching over 200 of 2011′s cinematic offerings, it stands to reason that I’m going to have to sit through a fair share of duds. As I had seen the vast majority of the key Oscar plays before November, I spent the latter part of the year dedicating myself to seeking out the worst, most lowest common denominator fare ripe for a skewering, and with these twenty dreadful pictures, we have what are, in my opinion, the 20 biggest train wrecks of 2011. A First-class cast has been assembled to bring the adventures of children's favourite Postman Pat to the big screen.

Stephen Mangan will voice the character in Postman Pat: The Movie - You Know You're the One, alongside contributions from Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, former Doctor Who David Tennant and Oscar-winner Jim Broadbent.

The 3D animated film will show Pat tempted away from his hometown of Greendale and his cat Jess by the bright lights of fame after he enters a television talent show.

Mangan (pictured right) said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be playing the world's best-known postman in his big screen debut - he's an iconic British hero and it's a great script. However when I excitedly told my three-year-old son that I was going to be Postman Pat, he said, 'No you're not, dad, don't be silly'."

Classic Media and Rubicon Group Holding are developing "Postman Pat: The Movie -- You Know You're the One" to celebrate the character’s 30th anniversary, timing the release for Spring 2013. Production kicks off this month.

If I hadn't of missed out on the slate unveiling during the festival, I would have been extremely curious about what the Weinstein Co. had to show for for Jim Field Smith's Butter. Fast money for a racing movie. Fast Five premiered in the Number One spot at the box office this weekend with $83.6 Million. I do not think anyone was expecting such a large take from Fast Five. It seems Universal Studios was right to prep The Fast and the Furious 6. Rio was Second with $14.4 Million for $103.6 Million so far. So the day has come for you folks to take home Costas Mandylor in the final chapter of the phenomenon that is Saw! Well, at least until the inevitable reboot. Even cooler...if the jolly red-suited fatman brought you a 3D television last month, you can watch this puppy in its gory 3D glory, too.

Another franchise that is buzzing this week is the video game sequel, Dead Space 2. In addition to the game itself, you can also bring home the collector's edition, the album soundtrack, a hardcover game guide, and an animated DVD movie. That should keep you busy for a while.
