This Friday brings the saddest of news to “Chucky” fans. Variety reports that the series has been canceled.

The horror comedy series aired on both USA Network and Syfy. According to Variety’s sources, “There had been discussions of bringing the show back for an abbreviated final season or even a wrap-up film, but ultimately to no avail.”

A decade ago, actors Aden Young and Clayne Crawford were pivotal parts of the much-underrated Sundance channel drama series Rectify. The show had a niche fanbase, and I was a part of it. Production resumed at the end of November, and the second half of the season will begin airing on April 10th – so now that we’re closing in on the end of season 3, series creator Don Mancini is, of course, fielding questions about the possibility of a fourth season. During an interview with The Direct, Mancini confirmed that season 4 has already been pitched!

When the subject of season 4 came up, Mancini said, “There’s very little I can say about that. I can’t tell you my idea for Season 4, but I’m really excited about it. I already pitched it to the network. So fingers crossed because it’s something I really like to do.

Part two of “Chucky” Season 3 is underway, with last night’s midseason premiere kicking off Chucky’s continued bid for the White House while dealing with a new aging affliction. The midseason premiere also delivered on series creator Don Mancini’s tease of a Chucky vs M3GAN showdown, just not in the way you’d expect.

In “Death Becomes Her,” Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) wallows over his mortality (when he’s not murdering people), which includes moping about in bed or watching TV. His channel surfing leads him to a string of killer doll horror movies playing, and Chucky’s commentary on his potential rivals will leave you in stitches.

The first film Chucky flips through is 2016’s The Boy, featuring the creepy but prim doll Brahms. After a brief scene of Brahms being cared for by his mother, Chucky dismisses this particular rival with “what a fucking joke.

The back half of Don Mancini’s “Chucky“ Season 3 has finally arrived, which means the metaphorical training wheels are off. The first half of the season introduced new slaying grounds for the killer Good Guy doll, thrusting Chucky into the White House with its complicated tenants. Episode 5, “Death Becomes Her,” wastes no time addressing Episode 4’s massive dangling threads while barreling toward what’s sure to be an unpredictable battle for control.

The Halloween bloodbath at the end of Episode 4 did poor President James Collins (Devon Sawa) no favors, both for his career and declining mental health. For example, Devon Sawa has already played four different characters over the course of the TV show’s three seasons. Now Entertainment Weekly has learned that legendary filmmaker John Waters is the latest person to play two different roles in this franchise. Having previously played Pete Peters, a tabloid photographer who got dissolved by acid in 2004’s Seed of Chucky, Waters has now been added to the cast of Chucky season 3, where he’ll be playing Wendell Wilkins, “the reclusive creator of the Good Guy dolls, who gets drawn into the psychopathic Chucky’s tangled web”.

The third annual Halloween episode of “Chucky” will air on both USA and Syfy this Wednesday, and Bloody Disgusting is celebrating early with a sneak peek clip this morning.

In Halloween III: Season of the Witch, airing on October 25, “Jake, Devon and Lexy infiltrate a Halloween ball to stop Chucky – But the demon doll has other plans.”

Chucky is dressed up as the Phantom of the Opera in the exclusive 2-minute clip, and he finally reveals his true intentions to young Henry Collins (Callum Vinson). The killer doll’s master plan? Now that Jake, Devon and Lexy are headed to the White House, he plans on adding them to his body count. Three more kills on the grounds of the White House, as last week’s episode revealed, may be enough to appease Damballa and free Chucky of his current predicament.

But first, he’s gonna need a Really Big Knife…...

The images reveal our hero characters dressed as Chucky while Chucky is dressed as the Phantom of the Opera, so we’re expecting a whole lot of Halloween fun this week.

And if the previous three episodes are any indication, we can also expect things to get Extremely bloody. They sure are going for it with the kills this season, eh?!

By the end of Don Mancini’s “Chucky“ Season 2, orphans Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Bjorgvin Arnarson), and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind) found a new stable home, free from Chucky (Brad Dourif). With Chucky on the lam and Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) accosted by the authorities, all seemed well for Hackensack and the franchise’s protagonists, save for one or two loose ends. As for the killer Good Guy doll, he doesn’t appear interested in Hackensack anymore.

Season 3 puts Chucky’s ambition on display as the pint-sized serial killer takes aim at the White House. With the third outing of “Chucky” split into halves, Season 3: Part 1’s more self-contained narrative keeps overarching plot threads on the backburner in favor of setting up a White House bloodbath that puts the camp in politics.

Chucky may still have a bone to pick with Jake, Devon, and Lexy, but his unwavering lust for power takes precedence.

Devon Sawa played three different roles across the first two seasons of the Chucky TV series, and in season 3 he’s taking on a fourth role: President James Collins. Chucky the killer doll ends up in the White House in this season (he has promised that “D.C. is gonna get Chucked up”), and in a new behind-the-scenes featurette, we get a tour of the Oval Office courtesy of Sawa.
