Exclusive: Capstone has acquired the feature film rights to New York Times bestselling author James Swallow’s series of Marc Dane spy thriller novels, setting his Sunday Times bestseller, Nomad, as the first title to be adapted for the big screen.

Published internationally by literary giant Bonnier in 2016, Nomad introduced audiences to Dane, an MI6 field agent at home behind a computer screen, one step away from the action. When a brutal attack on his team leaves Marc as the only survivor—and with the shocking knowledge that there are traitors inside MI6—he’s forced onto the front lines.

Nomad is being fast-tracked, with Capstone currently out to writers for the screenplay adaption. Christian Mercuri and Head of Production Joe Gatta will produce for Capstone, alongside David Haring. In addition to Nomad, the Marc Dane series features novels including Exile, Ghost, Rough Air,...

The International Association of Media Tie-In Writers (Iamtw) recognizes the wide range of authors who work on media tie-ins. Often overlooked, these writers craft exciting tales using beloved characters and settings of franchises including the likes of Mike Hammer, Firefly, Murder She Wrote, James Bond, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Star Trek. These stories can be original adventures, or adaptations of movies or television episodes. They include all genres and a wide range of lengths and formats.

To recognize the accomplishments of the unsung authors in this particular field, the Iamtw sponsors the annual Scribe Awards. This year’s awards have six categories to highlight excellence in Novels, Short Stories, Audio Dramas, Young Adult/Middle Grade works, and Graphic Novels.

We didn’t see them for 15 years and now they’re everywhere. Following their return in Star Trek: Picard and subsequent cameo in Star Trek: Lower Decks, William Riker and Deanna Troi are going to be the stars of their own Picard prequel novel coming next year. Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis’ married couple have long been fan favorites, and the Trek franchise is definitely keen to capitalize on their popularity right now.

The novel is titled Star Trek: Picard: The Dark Veil and is written by veteran Trek author James Swallow. The second Picard tie-in novel, after The Last Best Hope by Una McCormack, it goes on sale in January from Simon and Schuster. Ubisoft has officially announced Deus Ex: The Fall, but it's not going to be a sequel to the existing games, and it's not even going to be on traditional platforms. Instead it'll be a mobile title, and has been designed for iPhone and iPad.

The game is a sequel to the James Swallow Dx novel, Icarus Effect, and stars Ben Saxon, a former British Sas mercenary who's been betrayed by his former employer. Ben embarks on a mission to uncover the shady goings on, which take place directly after the events of the novel.

Having been designed specifically for Apple's platforms the game is, of course, heavily touch-focused, and along with the normal, touchscreen Fps controls, the game features touch targeting, custom interfaces and will incorporate all of the usual Deus Ex elements,...

Eidos Montreal executive game director Jean-Francois debuted Deus Ex: The Fall this morning, calling it the “full Deus Ex experience,” that will bring “exploration, action, hacking, stealth, social enhancers, player choice, and consequence” to the mobile platform. Tonight the BAFTA Video Game Awards are being held in London and the list of nominees shows the breadth of talent being celebrated and you can watch along live with us.

BAFTA’s push to educate people about the importance of gaming and to celebrate the very best in this medium is commendable and they are best placed to do this with access to the top names in the industry.

The titles being celebrated tonight include the annual editions of the most popular franchises but there’s a lot of innovation on show; the latest version of Call of Duty, Portal 2, Super Mario 3D Land and the internet-conquerinig Skyrim are all up for awards tonight along with many more.

Last week it was all about the 2012 BAFTA Film Awards, and now sees our attention turn to gaming with the announcement of the nominees for the BAFTA Video Game Awards 2012. We were there last year and hope to be covering it again this year. But in the meantime here’s the full list of nominees, featuring the cream of the crop of video gaming.

Personally I hope Uncharted 3 sweeps the board in all the categories its nominated in, and – being a Mario fan – I hope Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 pick up awards… although Dead Space iOS could give them a run for the money in the handheld categories!

My time at the New York Comic-Con has come and gone and a good time was had.

Writer Grant Morrison has confirmed he will adapt "Rogue Trooper" for actor Sam Worthington's Full Clip Productions.

The live-action feature will be based on stories debuting in the British comic "2000 Ad", (issue #228 -1981), created by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons:

"...'Rogue Trooper' follows 'Rogue', a 'G.I.' ('Genetic Infantryman') blue-skinned, manufactured elite soldier and his three comrades as they search for the 'Traitor General'. The third annual presentation of the International Association of Media-Tie-in Writers (Iamtw) "Scribe" awards just went down at San Diego Comic-Con, honoring the best and the brightest in the world of property tie-ins. Awards are voted on by members of the organization.

"These writers, highly prized by fans, receive few reviews and little acclaim, and the Scribe Awards are designed as a step toward properly honoring them," said Max Allan Collins, president of Iamtw, in a press release.
