Fox’s animated comedy Bless The Harts is adding a number of guest stars to its second season. Ken Jeong, Kristen Schaal and Natasha Lyonne are joining the series ahead of its September 27 return.

Schaal, who voices Louise in Bob’s Burgers, joins alongside her husband Rich Blomquist, who voices Daniel in Bless The Harts. Lyonne is close friends with Bless The Harts star Maya Rudolph and the pair have their own production company Animal Pictures. Jeong, meanwhile, recently joined a virtual table read of a new episode of Bless The Harts to raise money for Feeding America and pandemic victims. He also worked with co-showrunner Andy Bobrow on Community.

The news was revealed as part of the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel, which featured Bobrow, exec producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller and stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jillian Bell and Ike Barinholtz.

Rich Blomquist, who with wife Kristen Schaal, Phil Lord & Chris Miller created the ABC pilot American Monster, has closed a two-year overall deal with the show’s producer 20th Century Fox Television. Under the pact, the longtime writer on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart will develop new projects for the studio. “Rich is one of those rare voices — hilarious, irreverent, completely unique and fiercely intelligent,” said 20th Century Fox TV president of creative affairs Jonny Davis. “We loved him from The Daily Show and knew we wanted to be in business with him exclusively. We loved working with him on American Monster and we can’t wait to develop with him again.” Blomquist was a writer for The Daily Show for 10 seasons, sharing in seven Emmy variety series writing wins and a WGA Best Comedy/Variety Series win 2010. Rich Blomquist is expanding his relationship with 20th Century Fox Television. Showtime series Homeland swept the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards netting popular awards for Damien Lewis (Best Actor), Claire Danes (Best Actress), and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Best Drama Series.

The Primetime wins helped Homeland secure its place as the Emmy's surprise hit of 2012. Lewis beat out Emmy favourites Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston, who himself won the award twice for his role as Walter White in AMC.s Breaking Bad.

HBO.s Game Change tied with Homeland with four awards won, including Jay Roach.s Best Director for a Miniseries and Outstanding Miniseries. Combined with the Creative Arts Emmy wins, Homeland won a collective six awards this Emmy season.

Modern Family, Downton Abbey, and the other winners of the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced. The 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards “often referred to simply as the Emmy, is a television production award, similar in nature to the Peabody Awards but more focused on entertainment, and is considered the television equivalent to the Academy Awards (for film), Grammy Awards (for music) and Tony Awards (for stage).” The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awarded the 2010-2011 Primetime Emmys® for programs and individual achievements last night in Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Modern Family came full circle at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, winning the very first honours of the night and closing the show by topping the prestigious Comedy Series category.

Mad Men looked set to dominate the night, going in with 19 top nominations, and it continued its winning streak for the best drama title for the fourth year in a row.

But the stars of the period drama didn't fair so well - Jon Hamm was a four-time loser for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series - Kyle Chandler claimed that prize for his role in Friday Night Lights, while Julianna Margulies beat the likes of Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) and Kathy Bates (Harry's Law) to take home the female equivalent for her turn in The Good Wife.

Meanwhile, Modern Family started the Emmys as it planned to go on - TV husband and wife Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen kicked off the celebrations by walking away with the acting honours for Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Comedy Series.

The hit programme went on to earn accolades for writing and directing before being crowned best comedy at the end of the event.

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."

That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy

For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

Once described by New York Magazine as one of the “Ten Funniest New Yorkers You Never Heard Of,” today everyone has heard of Kristen Schaal. A well-known actress, comedienne and writer, she is on television, in film and print, and soon to be on the stage hosting this year’s East Coast Writers Guild Awards.

Schaal is the women’s issues correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Her TV credits include series regular Mel on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and Louise on Fox’s Bob’s Burgers, as well as appearances on Mad Men, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Law and Order: Svu, and The Simpsons.

"I Love You Phillip Morris" came out of nowhere and secured a nod for the 2011 Writers Guild Awards. Based on the book by Steven McVicker, the film starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGRegor as prisoners in love received a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination.

Congrats to the writing staff of the ‘Colbert Report’, who have been nominated for the fourth straight year for a Writer’s Guild of America award for Comedy/Variety (including talk) Series. First nominated in 2007, the ‘Colbert Report’ writers won the award that first year out, but lost in 2008 to ‘Saturday Night Live’ and lost in 2009 to ‘Saturday Night Live’/'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ (dual winners in 2009). ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ was nominated this year as well in the Comedy Variety (including talk) series category.

Jane Lynch spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the Newsweek/Ramin Setoodeh uproar, and she has a valid point: Ramin has a right to his opinion, no matter how much we disagree with it, or how shoddy his logic or writing, and Newsweek has a right to print it. The rest of us also have the right to speak up in opposition, but not in an “Off with his head!” approach. It’s not how you change hearts and minds.

Before I leave the subject I would like to point you to Autostraddle.com’s Let Us Now Praise Effeminate Men, which borrows some of the best lines from queer actors, characters, and activists to make the point. Favorites like Adam Lambert, Alan Cumming, Kurt Hummel, Emmett Honeycutt, Wilson Cruz and others feature prominently.

The Writers Guild of America honored The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air at their ceremony on Saturday night, firmly establishing the films as front-runners in their respective Oscar categories.

Mark Boal certainly deserves the accolades after embedding himself with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team in Baghdad in 2004 and turning his journalist findings into a dramatic original screenplay. In his speech Boal thanked director Kathryn Bigelow for supporting “an unpopular story about an unpopular war that has now lasted twice as long as WWII with no end in sight.”

Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner picked up the prize for their adaptation of Walter Kirn’s novel, and Mark Monroe won for the moving documentary The Cove.

The WGA Awards are a somewhat reliable indicator of the Academy Awards. ”Original Screenplay” has matched 10 out of the last 15 years, and “Adapted” has lined up 11 of 15, including Milk and Slumdog Millionaire last year.

Writer Mark Boal was given the best original screenplay award at the 2010 Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards for his screenplay for the film "The Hurt Locker" beating out other nominees "(500) Days of Summer," "Avatar," "The Hangover," and "A Serious Man."

"Up in the Air" writers Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner won the best adapted screenplay award beating out "Crazy Heart," "Julie & Julia," "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," and "Star Trek."

Winning the best documentary screenplay was Mark Monroe for "The Cove." Other documentary nominees were "Against the Tide," "Capitalism: A Love Story," "Earth Days," "Good Hair," and "Soundtrack for a Revolution."

As hard as it may be to believe sometimes, someone (or someones) actually sits down and writes a movie or TV show before you end up seeing it at your local multiplex or on your favorite TV network. The people who do the sitting and the writing are, surprisingly, called writers and, like the Directors, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, they have their own awards show.

This week, the Writers Guild of America, which is the trade group and advocate for writers, announced its nominations for outstanding achievement in feature film and television, radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation during the 2009 season to be honored at the upcoming 2010 Writers Guild Awards on February 20, 2010, in Los Angeles and New York.

We realize that these nominations may not be as glamorous as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but we kinda like writers around here and think they do a pretty important job.

Awards heavyweights "Mad Men," "30 Rock" and "The Office" and buzzed-about newcomer "Modern Family" led the TV field for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards with three nominations each.

AMC's "Mad Men" and NBC's "30 Rock" and "The Office" are in the running for best drama/comedy series, and each received two nominations for episodic writing. "Family" made the cut for best comedy series, best new series and best episodic writing for a comedy series.

ABC's "Family" was one of two new shows to break into the best series categories along with Fox's quirky high-school dramedy "Glee," which faces "Family" in the best comedy series and best new series fields.

While the WGA Awards are still in its nomination phase, Fox's "The Simpsons" can already uncork the champagne. The veteran series is assured to win the animation category after landing all five nomination slots.

So another year has passed and its time for another round of awards for the people who make the television shows we like to watch.

Television is interesting these days. Never before have we seen such great, creative output. Never before have we been subjected to such drivel. It all gets paraded before us tonight, as we watch the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (handed out, it should be noted, by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) on CBS, CTV in Canada.

Interesting that the Emmys chose to introduce the 2009 edition of the Primetime awards by harkening back to the early days of television. Especially as the business of television has never been closer to a complete collapse. Oh, announcer who is trying so hard to sound like a TV host from the '50s.
