CBS has ordered an NCIS prequel series that will focus on a younger version of Mark Harmon‘s iconic character Gibbs.

Harmon and his son Sean are producing the new show together and while Sean played the younger version on NCIS, he has opted to not reprise the role in the upcoming series.

Deadline reports that “NCIS: Origins begins in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and follows a young Gibbs. In the series, Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.”

After Everything is the fifth and final entry in the After Film franchise. Written and Directed by Castille Landon, the film is based on a novel of the same name by Anna Todd. August theatrical releases were a bit sparse, but “Partner Track,” “Lost Ollie” and seven other book-based projects found their way onto streamers last month, including HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon.” September has more theatrical releases, but fewer book adaptations to look forward to. Those that are coming out this month have rich history though, especially “The Rings of Power” series that Amazon has based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books and appendices.

There’s also “The Silent Twins” starring Letitia Wright and Jodhi May as well as Andrew Dominik’s feature film “Blonde” adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ book about the career of Marilyn Monroe.

This month, ABC is betting big that viewers will tune into its ambitious three-part, six-episode limited series “Women of the Movement,” centering on 14-year-old Emmett Till’s brutal murder in 1955 that served as an important catalyst for the civil rights movement. With the ongoing investigation into the Capitol riot and reignited Critical Race Theory debates in the wake of Nikole Hannah-Jones’ “The 1619 Project,” the nation’s “wokeness” meter has arguably never been higher. Women of the Movement is ABC's upcoming six-episode anthology series based on Emmett Till's murder in 1955 and his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, who subsequently became an activist as she demanded justice, helping ignite the civil rights movement. ABC recently shared a teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes look after setting a release date for the show.

“The Bachelor” is back on Monday nights this winter, as the dating show enters a new era with a new host.

“The Bachelor,” which will be hosted by Jesse Palmer, will premiere on Jan. 3 at 8 p.m., returning the flagship show to its normal and coveted time slot. The franchise has been airing on Tuesday nights this fall with the current season of “The Bachelorette,” as Bachelor Nation has gotten year-round programming in 2021 with two seasons of “Bachelorette” and “Bachelor in Paradise” this past summer. The new season marks the first season not led by longtime host Chris Harrison, who departed the franchise earlier this year.

Also on ABC’s midseason schedule is the farewell season of the Emmy-nominated and groundbreaking comedy “Black-ish,” which will sign off after eight seasons. The final, star-studded season will feature a guest appearance by former first lady Michelle Obama.

‘After We Fell’, ‘After Ever Happy’ will debut solely on the online platform.

Amazon Prime Video has secured UK and France rights from Voltage Pictures to After We Fell and After Ever Happy, the next two titles in the After young adult series.

It will launch the two films exclusively on the online platform, despite previous instalment After We Collided having been a box office hit in the UK when cinemas were open last autumn.

Release dates for the films are yet to be confirmed.

Gary Basaraba has a busy few months ahead. The Irishman alum is reuniting with Martin Scorsese on the Scorsese-directed Apple Original Films thriller Flowers of the Killer Moon, the adaptation of David Grann’s book, in a supporting role. Basaraba also has booked a key role on ABC’s limited series Women of the Movement.

Set in 1920s Oklahoma, Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro, depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

Basaraba plays William J. Burns, a private investigator looking into the Osage killings.

In ABC’s limited series Women of the Movement, Basaraba portrays Sheriff Clarence Strider, the sheriff of Tallahatchie County Mississippi and a wealthy plantation owner.

Updated with new photos: It was a long, pandemic-impacted broadcast development cycle, with some pilots taking a year to get produced, but the broadcast networks have made their picks for new scripted series to debut in fall 2021 as well as the bulk of their decisions for new midseason 2022 shows.

Among the few changes on the ABC schedule from last fall is the move of breakout freshman drama Big Sky to the network’s high-flying Thursday lineup. There, it will succeed canceled Rebel in the 10 p.m. hour, following ABC’s highest-rated scripted series Grey’s Anatomy, which again has spinoff Station 19 as a lead-in.

Police in Texas have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 30-year-old actor Eddie Hassell.

According to the Associated Press, D’jon Antone, 18 was arrested on Wednesday at his home in Dallas and charged with capital murder. He is being held at the Grand Prairie Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Police say that Hassell was visiting a friend at a Grand Prairie apartment complex when he was shot while going out to his car to retrieve something. A car was stolen but Hassell was not in the car at the time.

“He was just a victim of wrong place, wrong time,” a police spokesperson said.

Best known for appearing on the Lifetime TV series “Devious Maids,” Hassell first broke out with a supporting role in the 2015 NBC series “Surface” as Phil Nance, the best friend of a teenager played by Carter Jenkins, who finds an egg off...

Update: Deadline has learned that Eddie Hassell was shot in the stomach outside his girlfriend’s apartment in Grand Prairie, Texas at approximately 1am Sunday morning. The shooting is currently under investigation and as of now, the motive for the shooting is unclear and there is no suspect in custody.

Hassell’s girlfriend was in her apartment when it happened but she did not see the assailant. His neighbors came to his assistance and called emergency services. Hassell died at the hospital.

Previous: Actor Eddie Hassell, who appeared in the Oscar-nominated film The Kids Are All Right and the NBC oceanic sci-fi drama Surface, has died, Deadline has confirmed. He was 30.

According to TMZ, the actor was killed on Sunday morning in Texas in what seems to be a carjacking. No further details have been given.

In The Kids Are All Right, he played Clay, the wise-cracking best friend of Josh Hutcherson’s character Laser.

Eddie Hassell, an actor whose credits include the NBC show “Surface” and Lifetime’s “Devious Maids,” was killed in a shooting in Grand Prairie, Texas, early Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office. He was 30.

The actor was shot in the stomach outside his girlfriend’s apartment in Grand Prairie, a city between Dallas and Fort Worth, his rep told TheWrap.

Local police responded to a call at 1:50 a.m. Sunday to find Hassell suffering from a gunshot wound, click2houston.com reported. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There is no known motive for the crime, and investigators have called on the public to help in identifying the suspect or suspects, who remain at large.

According to Hassell’s rep, his girlfriend was in her apartment when the shooting occurred and did not see the assailant.

Famous In Love executive producer I. Marlene King reached out via Twitter to share her reaction to today’s cancellation of the Freeform drama series starring Bella Thorne.

“I am deeply grateful for the #FamousInLove cast, crew and our passionate fans. I could not be more saddened by today’s news,” King wrote. “I love these characters and the wild ride they were taking us on. Thank you @warnerbrosTV for fighting the good fight with me. We gave it our all. Keep #Raige in your hearts and they will live on.”

There had been online reports earlier this week that the series had been cancelled, but the official decision came down Friday, despite fans’ efforts to keep it afloat. In its statement announcing the cancellation, Freeform noted that the decision was not an easy one. The series ended Season 2 with season highs in key demos, but ratings year-over-year had declined.

Freeform is breaking up with “Famous in Love,” choosing to cancel the series from “Pretty Little Liars” showrunner I. Marlene King after two seasons.

“We are proud to have had the opportunity to air ‘Famous In Love,'” a spokesperson for Freeform told TheWrap in a statement Friday. “After many discussions we have made the difficult decision not to renew the show for a third season. We want to thank our colleagues at Warner Horizon and our incredible producers, writers, cast and crew, especially Marlene King, for their creativity, hard work and dedication.”

The Bella Thorne-led drama aired its season finale on the younger-skewing cable network last month, an episode that will now serve as the series finale.

The Bella Thorne-led series aired on the cable network for two seasons. Based on the novel by Rebecca Serle, the series followed college student Paige (Thorne) as she gets her big break after auditioning for the starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster. News of the cancellation comes just weeks after the cancellation of fellow Freeform series “Shadowhunters.”

In addition to Thorne, the series starred Charlie DePew, Georgie Flores, Carter Jenkins, Niki Koss, Keith Powers, Pepi Sonuga, and Perrey Reeves.

Updated: The last-ditch fan effort to save Famous In Love led by executive producer I. Marlene King has come up short. Freeform has opted not to order a third season of the drama series starring Bella Thorne. The May 30 Season 2 finale served as the series finale.

The renewal decision was not an easy one. The series ended Season 2 on a high note, showing organic growth and posting new season highs in key demographics in three of the last five weeks. However, year-vs-year, Famous In Love’s ratings were down.
