Joe Millionaire was Fox’s answer to ABC’s reality show, The Bachelor. The Fox featured twenty single women who flew to France to win the affection of a handsome American man they believed to be worth $50 million. However, the twist was that the man, Evan Marriott, was actually a 28-year-old heavy equipment operator. Two decades after airing, a producer expressed regret over the show. Keep reading to find out why.
Joe Millionaire Producer Expresses Regret Over Show
The show was popular and ran for two seasons. The first season threw Evan Marriott into the public unprepared for fame. After the show, he returned to a private life and started his own construction company. One of the contestants, Sarah Kozer, appeared on another reality show before leaving the spotlight. The winners of the first season, Evan and Zora Andrich, broke up soon after the show.

You don't know Joe! Not only did Joe Millionaire forever transform the landscape of reality television when it first premiered nearly 20 years ago, but the dating competition's leading man, Evan Marriott, saw some dramatic changes as well since appearing on the Fox series. Recently, the 47-year-old Virginia native—who was marketed as a millionaire looking for love, but was later revealed to be a construction worker with an annual income of $19,000—was photographed looking almost unrecognizable from his once clean-shaven self. Instead of the well-coiffed 'do that captured America's attention, Evan stepped out in a long ponytail and bushy beard. For the outing, he kept...

“The Glass House”
ABC put 14 contestants into a house, and let America vote to decide who would be evicted and who would win $250,000. But with low ratings and a lawsuit from CBS claiming the show was a ripoff of “Big Brother,” “The Glass House” lasted just one season.
“I Wanna Marry ‘Harry'”
More than a few dating competition shows involve some kind of deceit, but few were as ridiculous as the one at the center of Fox’s “I Wanna Marry ‘Harry.'” Starring a male lead with only a slight resemblance to the British prince, the show pushed the limits of credulity.
“Joe Millionaire”
Attempting to expand on the format perfected by “The Bachelor,” Fox debuted “Joe Millionaire” just one year later, pitting contestants against each other for the affections of an average Joe whom they believed to be rich. Over a decade later, star Evan Marriott is still apologizing for deceiving those women.

“Picture this: Sicily,” jokes Evan Marriott, invoking Estelle Getty’s signature Golden Girls preamble to set the scene for his surreal experience filming Fox’s Joe Millionaire 13 years ago. Actually, the location was France’s Ruhr valley countryside, and Marriott recalls that most nights, he’d be sitting with the windows swung open. “I had this beautiful view, and I would sit there every night with a beer in my hand and the phone in my ear. I was talking to a girl named Amy, who I broke up with before I went to do the show, because I was trying to get back together with her.” It can’t be, you might say. After all, the whole premise of Millionaire was for Marriott to be wooed by 20 women led (falsely) to believe he was worth seven figures when, in reality, their sugar-daddy dreamboat was a construction worker earning $19,000 a...

Wtf is she wearing?! Heidi Montag raised some eyebrows at We tv's "Evolution Of The Relationship Reality Show" event in Los Angeles on Thursday night, for sporting some very usual arm accessories. The former "Hills" star stepped out with strips of black tape on her right arm as she posed for pictures -- and packed on the Pda -- with hubby Spencer Pratt. Doesn't that look like the tape they use to treat sports injuries?! Whoa! See "Joe Millionaire" Star Evan Marriott Now! The blonde bombshell paired her strange accessory with a black tank top, leather pants and a hair-raising 'do that swept her long locks away from her face. Another former reality star to turn heads was Darva Conger, who you might recognize from 2000's "Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?" The now-49-year-old beauty famously "won" the show, marrying Rick Rockwell on the season finale. Two months after the show aired,...

Is this the newest castmember of Duck Dynasty? Nope, it's Joe Millionaire's Evan Marriott! Twelve years have passed since Joe Millionaire tricked 20 women into thinking they were in the running to marry the heir to a multimillion-dollar fortune, and star Evan Marriott looked every inch the average Joe this Thursday at We tv's Evolution of Relationship Reality Shows panel at the Paley Center for Media.
Now 40, the construction worker – and, briefly, underwear model – was not particularly talkative at the Beverly Hilton-hosted event and did not stop for reporters on the red carpet.
When asked about his beard, Marriott joked that he "grew this overnight. All I do is think about a beard and it comes in.

He starred on one of the most trashy (and totally addicting) reality TV shows of all time ... but then Evan Marriott vanished. The former construction worker was selected for the 2003 Fox reality show "Joe Millionaire," where he tricked 20 women into thinking he was actually loaded. If the final woman decided to still stay with him after he revealed his lack of fortune, the couple would be surprised with $1 million. Fyi: Zora Andrich was the "lucky" lady. She stuck with Marriott and they split the money ... before splitting from each other. He all but vanished after the pop culture phenomenon ended though ... until now! Marriott, now 40, stepped out to We tv's "Evolution of Relationship Reality Shows" event at the Paley Center on Thursday night, looking very different than he used to. Sporting a grizzly beard, white t-shirt, blue jeans and much shorter locks, he was almost unrecognizable! During the panel (via...

Tonight, on Fox’s new reality series I Wanna Marry Harry, 12 hot, young, British-history-adverse Americans will compete for the affections of Prince Harry! The catch? This British ginger isn’t really Prince Harry, as anyone with a half-decent monocle can already tell, although we’re told that he does score a 99 percent match with his royal counterpart using facial recognition technology. (Science!) Not to worry, though: In case you forget that Matt Hicks is just an impostor, the show helpfully identifies him as “Matt Hicks, Not Really Prince Harry.” Apparently, it’s all part of some benevolent master plan: “I...

As a connoisseur of fairy tale-fueled Fox shows from "Joe Millionaire" to "Forever Eden" to "Paradise Hotel," the network's punctuationally challenging "I Wanna Marry 'Harry'" was right in my sweet spot. And, after watching the premiere, I knew I definitely wanted to talk to series star Matt Hicks about the series, in which he has to convince a giggling coterie of love-starved American party girls that he's royalty, specifically that he's Prince Harry. It also struck me that since Hicks' claim-to-fame for this series is his resemblance -- 99 percent, according to the show's facial recognition software -- to the man who is fourth in line to the British throne, merely doing my standard Q&A interview might give depth, but it wouldn't let you look at a guy who looks a bit like another famous guy. Several things to keep in mind as you watch: Matt does, indeed, look somewhat like Prince Harry,...

Fox made a big spring and summer scheduling announcement on Wednesday (March 26) afternoon, but the only thing anybody on my Twitter feed wanted to discuss was the fact that after this Friday, "Enlisted" is off the schedule, at least for the foreseeable future. So let's get that out of the way. Fox had already scheduled an hour-long series finale for "Raising Hope" for April 4, so "Enlisted" was off the schedule for next week anyway. But Fox revealed on Wednesday that "Kitchen Nightmares" will premiere on April 11 in that 9 p.m. hour. This isn't a huge shocker, folks. "Enlisted" no longer had a comedy partner for that hour, so was Fox going to air "Enlisted" and an "Enlisted" encore? "Enlisted" and a random repeat? Who would that benefit? So "Enlisted" will return. Fox emphasizes this. We just don't know when. Now let's get down to the business of Fox premieres from May on.

Legal Problems Thwart Jackson's Movie Career
Pop mega-star Michael Jackson's extreme legal problems may have thwarted his attempt to relaunch his career as a film star. The singer was delighted with his 10-minute appearance in director Bryan Michael Stoller's spoof Miss Cast Away - but distributors are anxious about the film since Jackson's arrest on child-molestation charges. The director explains, "We've sort of had to put things on hold. It's a shame because Jackson has an amazing vision." Stoller spent at least one day a week at Jackson's Neverland Ranch home "mentoring" him for the movie which also stars former Joe Millionaire Evan Marriott and depicts what might happen if a plane-load of contestants on their way to a beauty pageant crash-landed on an island. Miss Cast Away is already facing problems over its release - bosses at Twentieth Century Fox are attempting to keep the film out of cinemas because the title is too close to their hit Tom Hanks movie Cast Away.
