Leonardo DiCaprio teases the political and cultural relevance of ‘One Battle After Another’ as extended clip debuts at CinemaCon
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor pulled back the curtain on Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming One Battle After Another during Tuesday’s Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon, before revealing an extended clip from the forthcoming awards contender.

“I've been wanting to work with Paul for over, gosh, almost 20 years now, and he's one of the most unique talents of our time,” DiCaprio told the nation’s theater owners. As the story goes, Anderson initially wanted DiCaprio to star as Dirk Diggler in Anderson's breakout 1997 film, Boogie Nights. He also worked with DiCaprio’s father, George DiCaprio, on Licorice Pizza.

One Battle After Another is Anderson’s most expensive movie ever and will receive a significant theatrical release from Warner Bros. — including an IMAX run — when it debuts in theaters on Sept. 26. While continuously unmentioned in the marketing so far, the movie is heavily inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland.

‘One Battle After Another’ trailer: Leonardo DiCaprio joins the revolution for Paul Thomas Anderson
Image
If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie is the first that Anderson has made with DiCaprio. Still, it is not the first project Anderson has done with a member of DiCaprio’s family. The Oscar-winning actor’s father, George DiCaprio, appeared in Licorice Pizza. Anderson also originally wanted DiCaprio to star as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights.

As revealed in the new trailer — which dropped a week after Warner Bros. officially dated One Battle After Another for the fall — the film is heavily inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland. DiCaprio stars as Bob Ferguson, a dishelved counter-culture radical on a quest to find his missing daughter (Presumed Innocent star Chase Infiniti), who was abducted by a conservative military figure named Steve Lockjaw (Oscar-winner...

Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another’ with Leonardo DiCaprio lands fall release date: Watch the first teaser
Image
Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio are ready to go to war.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. released the first teaser trailer for One Battle After Another, the acclaimed filmmaker and star's first-ever collaboration. According to the studio, the full trailer will arrive next week.

Little is officially known about One Battle After Another – so much so that its title wasn’t revealed until Wednesday night when it was reported the studio had shifted the project's release date from August to the fall (more on that below). However, online scuttlebutt suggests the project, Anderson’s most expensive ever, is at least inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland. That novel — set in 1984 but with flashbacks to the 1960s to contextualize the cultural clash in America during those decades — focuses on a former hippie named Zoyd Wheeler and his 14-year-old daughter as they attempt to stay ahead of a villainous federal official. Did Leonardo DiCaprio’s Humble Beginnings & Dad’s Life Advice Shape His Hollywood Journey?
Image
Was Leonardo DiCaprio’s story all about humble beginnings? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

This advice shaped Leonardo DiCaprio’s wild ride to stardom. He didn’t grow up with private schools and limo rides — Leo’s childhood was more Taxi Driver gritty than Hollywood Boulevard glamorous. We’re talking about a kid who witnessed crack deals in alleys and saw a prostitution ring on his street corner. Yeah, that was his reality. Yet, Leo went from that chaos to becoming The Wolf of Wall Street and one of Hollywood’s biggest names.

Leo’s secret sauce? Supportive parents who kept him grounded. After George DiCaprio and Irmelin Indenbirken split up early on, they made a pact to steer Leo clear of the traps that come with growing up in a tough neighborhood. In a 2016 speech, Leo gave a shoutout to his parents: “To my parents, thank you for listening to an overly ambitious,...

How Leonardo DiCaprio Was Named: A Heartwarming Museum Moment with His Mom & Da Vinci Masterpiece!
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio is at a museum, discussing the origin of his name with his mother (Photo Credit – Koimoi)

Leonardo DiCaprio is synonymous with Hollywood stardom, but the story of how he came by it is charming and unique. In a 2014 NPR interview, DiCaprio revealed the delightful origins of his name: “My father tells me that they were on their honeymoon at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence… they were looking at a da Vinci painting, and allegedly I started kicking furiously while my mother was pregnant. My dad, being the artist that he is, said, ‘That’s our boy’s name.'” Talk about a divine sign!

The surname DiCaprio adds another layer to this intriguing tale. Leonardo’s father, George DiCaprio, was a half-Italian comic book artist and distributor, which hints at the artistic bloodline running through the family. Yet, Leonardo’s ancestry is a mixed bag, with German and Russian roots.

Zack Snyder On Approaching Leonardo DiCaprio to Play Lex Luthor, "He Had a Lot of Great Ideas!"
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio almost played Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, impressing Zack Snyder with his ideas for the character. DiCaprio's background in comics influenced Snyder, who considered his ideas for Superman fighting the Justice League. In another universe, DiCaprio was considered for the roles of Stan Lee and Spider-Man, showing his versatility as an actor.

At one point in time, Leonardo DiCaprio could have donned a bald cap (or shaved his head completely) to play Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's DC Extended Universe. Snyder held the reins of the Dceu, which included films like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman (both directed by Snyder), Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, until James Gunn took over in 2022.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Zack Snyder confirmed long-running rumors about the actors he approached to play Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyder revealed one actor he...

Shirtless Leonardo DiCaprio Spotted on Rare Beach Outing With Emile Hirsch
Leonardo DiCaprio at an event for Inception (2010)
Who says you can't have a beach day in the fall? On Friday, Nov. 6, Leonardo DiCaprio, 45, was spotted at the beach in Malibu, Calif. alongside friend and The Girl Next Door star Emile Hirsch, 35. Both wearing swim trunks—Leonardo in a set of patterned gray and Emile in baby blue—the duo even hit the surely chilly waters. It seemed like a bros day out as the friends were joined by others, including the Titanic star's dad, George DiCaprio. Noticeably though, the day was missing Leo's longtime girlfriend Camila Morrone, 23. The couple made their first public appearance in Aspen, Colo. in Jan. 2018 and were in full-on Pda mode at Coachella a few months later, where...

Leonardo DiCaprio Developing Utopian Series ‘Island’ (Exclusive)
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and In Good Company Films are developing the utopian series “Island,” based on Aldous Huxley’s novel “Island.”

Huxley’s final book, published in 1962, follows a cynical journalist shipwrecked on the fictional utopian island of Pala in the Indian Ocean. Originally tasked with exploiting Pala’s natural resources, he uncovers an independently developed society and embraces the people, their culture and traditions — including psychedelic adventures and alternative social structures. His experience alters the course of his mission.

Huxlery wrote “Island” as the utopian counterpoint to his most famous work, the 1932 dystopian novel, “Brave New World.” “Island” explores the themes of freedom and the power of human potential. Huxley died of cancer in 1963.

Davisson and DiCaprio will executive produce for Appian Way along with George DiCaprio and Roee Sharon. Andrew Alter and Jason Whitmore will executive produce for Igc Films.

Appian Way launched in 2004 as a...

Hot Doc On The Selling Block: DiCaprio’s Appian Way, Howard & Grazer’s Imagine Making ‘Timothy Leary: Follow Me To Freedom’
Image
Exclusive: As documentary films and series continue to escalate in prominence in this age of binge watching, here’s a package that is creating some excitement as it is shopped this week and next. Imagine Documentaries and Appian Way Productions have partnered to produce Timothy Leary: Follow Me to Freedom, a docuseries that draws upon Leary’s vast archives and is fueled by exclusive access to his longtime personal archivist, Michael Horowitz. Malcolm Venville is set to direct what the filmmakers believe will be the definitive account of Timothy Leary’s odyssey, with never-before-seen access to Leary’s personal archive.

This is thanks to resources provided by Horowitz, a rare books and manuscripts specialist who was building a library in San Francisco on the history of mind-altering drugs when he learned that psychedelic scientist/LSD advocate Leary had been imprisoned in Governor Ronald Reagan’s crackdown.
