Paul Feig, the acclaimed writer-director-producer of film and TV comedies, will be honored with the Vanguard Award at the 16th annual Burbank International Film Festival, the fest’s organizers announced Monday.

Feig, 61, will be celebrated during the fest’s awards gala at the Burbank Marriott Convention Center — a year after Burbank native Tim Burton was honored there — on Sept. 29. Prior to the presentation of the award, attendees will be treated to an hourlong career-retrospective interview with the Freaks and Geeks creator and Bridesmaids, Spy and Ghostbusters director, which will be moderated by yours truly and recorded for subsequent airing on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast.

Exclusive: Daytime Emmy-winner Mike Manning and Olivia Blue will star in alien adventure film Unexpected Treasures, directed by John Paul Ungaretti, and written by Ungaretti, and Christina Heller. Ungaretti, best known for his work in the VFX and editorial department on movies like Water for Elephants and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked and shows like Lost Ollie and Outer Banks on Netflix.

The film’s cast is rounded out with AnnaMaria DeMara, Jay Whittaker, Michael Dunn, Lauren Han, and Rex Edhlund.

Production for the film recently wrapped in Joshua Tree, CA. The script was inspired by the many extra-terrestrial-related stories and folklore of the Joshua Tree community and desert area. In the film, a wild alien encounter restores a local resident’s faith in humanity.

Tim Burton is coming home to Burbank.

The Burbank City Council has declared that Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, will be “Tim Burton Day” in recognition of the Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice filmmaker, who was born and raised in the city within Los Angeles County, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

That evening, the 64-year-old filmmaker will attend the awards gala of the Burbank International Film Festival at the Burbank Marriott Convention Center, and will sit down with yours truly for a life/career-retrospective conversation that will also be recorded for The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.

Burton’s relationship with the 15-year-old film festival began a year ago, when he agreed to lend his name to a festival award that will annually recognize a local filmmaker who shows unique imagination and creativity. Exclusive: Actor Mike Manning (Days of Our Lives) has signed with APA for representation.

Manning is best known for his recent two-year arc as Charlie Dale on the long-running soap Days of Our Lives, appearing in 65 episodes of the series which recently migrated from NBC to Peacock.

The actor was also seen in a few episodes of the final season of This Is Us — also on NBC — and has previously been seen on such additional series as Netflix’s Welcome to Eden, OWN’s The Haves and the Have Nots, MTV’s Teen Wolf, TNT’s Major Crimes, and CBS’s Hawaii Five-0, to name a few.

Manning appears in Damien Chazelle’s Old Hollywood epic Babylon for Paramount, which this year is nominated for three Academy Awards, and was previously seen in the 2018 SXSW prize winner, Jinn.

Manning continues to be represented by Kurt Patino of Patino Management Company.

Studi plays Jake’s teacher, with Birch as his mother, and Benz as the school’s guidance counselor who helps him with his social anxieties.

Gravitas Ventures has picked up the rights to Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy, the documentary about late underwater cinematographer Mike deGruy. Mimi deGruy, Mike’s widow and filmmaking partner, wrote and directed the doc, which will begin its rollout starting with Apple TV/iTunes and Amazon rentals on January 19.

Kelly Stables and husband Kurt Patino introduce their 6-week-old son exclusively to People readers.

The Exes star and her husband, manager Kurt Patino, welcomed son Kendrick Kurt Patino on Friday, Sept. 7 in Burbank, Calif., her rep confirms to People exclusively.

Baby boy arrived at 2:32 p.m., weighing in at 7 lbs. and measuring 19.5 inches long.

“He’s healthy and happy,” her rep tells People.

After announcing her pregnancy in April, Stables — whose due date had been Sept. 18 — later confirmed the sex of the couple’s first child, before revealing she was craving salsa, sherbet and the dreaded “b-word.”
