Exclusive: Rhona Mitra has landed the female lead opposite Joel Kinnaman in Debriefing the President (wt), the four-hour miniseries recently greenlighted at TNT, which comes as part of the network’s renewed focus on premium event programming.
Mitra plays Polly Stevens, a colleague of Kinnaman’s real-life CIA analyst John Nixon (Kinnaman), whose book of the same name inspired the series. The show marks a return to TNT for the actress following two seasons as Dr. Rachel Scott in its action drama The Last Ship.
Delving into the 2003 interrogation of deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, Debriefing the President explores a CIA analyst’s relentless search for truth, the complexities of justice on the global stage, and the deeply personal father-son connections woven into a turbulent period of history. Kinnaman’s Nixon is the first American official to positively identify and interrogate Saddam Hussein following his capture. The miniseries follows his...

Red Sonja Leaked Footage Gives Us A First Look At Matilda Lutz In Action As The Flame-Haired Warrior
Aside from an initial promo image and a behind-the-scenes photo, we haven't seen very much from Millennium Films' Red Sonja reboot, but some snippets of footage from the movie have now leaked online.
Though it's only a few seconds long, the clip shows Revenge star Matilda Lutz in full costume as the She-Devil with a Sword as she does battle against a horde of ferocious foes. Right at the end, we also catch a glimpse of some kind of horned reptilian-looking monster in chains.
As you can see, Lutz's armour is pretty faithful to the later comic book depictions of the character (the skimpy chain-mail bikini was never gonna happen), and she also appears to be sporting Sonja's signature face-paint.
After over a decade spent attempting to get the project moving with multiple writers and directors attached at various different stages, Millennium finally managed to put its Red Sonja reboot...

Unlike most other survival horror franchises, the Silent Hill games keep fans coming back for more by investing in a certain feeling rather than familiar monsters and recurring characters. Yes, Pyramid Head and the nurses are some of the biggest icons in gaming, but it’s really the series’ unique blend of Nietzschean psychology and moody atmosphere that makes it stand out. That’s why it’s only natural that fans would also search for the same eerie vibes in other media.
And while I’ll admit that there’s nothing out there that feels exactly like the Silent Hill games (even the adaptations can’t quite replicate the surreal solitude of the source material), today I’d like to share a list attempting to answer one of the most common questions asked by new Silent Hill fans: are there any movies that feel like Silent Hill?

Director Neil Marshall made one of the all-time coolest werewolf movies with his 2002 film Dog Soldiers (watch it Here), so it’s shocking that we’ve never gotten a sequel, especially considering we’re living in a world where An American Werewolf in Paris exists, and there have been eight Howling movies. A few years ago, Marshall said there was “more of a chance” of the sequel happening than ever before… but in a recent interview, he said he feared that Dog Soldiers 2 is dead in the water. Now, he has taken to social media to confirm that there’s little to no hope of Dog Soldiers 2 ever happening – so he’s going to make a different werewolf movie, The Werewolves of London, instead.
There have been rumors and premature announcements about a sequel to Dog Soldiers ever since the film made its debut in 2002. Oddly, for several years the...

Rhona Mitra was the star of TNT action drama The Last Ship from 2014-2015 before dropping out of the spotlight for several years, but now the British actress is poised to make a comeback with four upcoming movies. In the early and mid-'00s, Mitra bounced between television and film, appearing opposite Kevin Bacon in Hollow Man before joining the ensemble cast led by James Spader and William Shatner in the early seasons of Boston Legal, and playing the ancestor of Selene in the Underworld franchise.
She starred in the action-heavy sci-fi thriller Doomsday, about zombie hordes taking over the Earth, and joined Mark Wahlberg for The Shooter. Known for her commanding screen presence, in the post-apocalyptic series The Last Ship, Mitra played Dr. Rachel Scott, a beloved character who abruptly left the series after being formative in trying to find a cure for the mainland virus in its first two seasons.

The upcoming Red Sonja reboot hasn't had the easiest of journeys to the big screen, losing multiple filmmakers - including X-Men helmer Bryan Singer - and even its main star (Thunderbolts*' Hannah John-Kamen).
M.J. Bassett has since stepped behind the camera to direct the action, with rising star Matilda Lutz tapped to bring the iconic warrior to life in a movie fans hope will do this character justice.
After all, it's been nearly four decades since Red Sonja graced the big screen, with Brigitte Nielsen bringing the iconic hero to life way back in 1985.
Earlier this week, we caught up with action icon Rhona Mitra to discuss her role in XYZ Films' Hounds of War. She's been tapped to play an unnamed character in the new Red Sonja and we asked what she could tease about the project.
"I know that I'm not really allowed to say anything about that.

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, a set pic has just arrived online to give us a look at a blood spattered Lutz wearing a version of the character’s iconic bikini armor. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

It's been quite a while since we had any official updates on Millennium Films' Red Sonja reboot, but the movie's Instagram page has now shared a new behind-the-scenes photo of Revenge star Matilda Lutz as the She-Devil with a Sword.

Prior to the immense success of television shows like "The Last of Us" and "Fallout," many audiences felt that video game adaptations were cursed. There were plenty of quick cash grabs and bizarre attempts at movie adaptations that just didn't work throughout the years, but one secret standout is the 2006 Christophe Gans film "Silent Hill." Based on the Konami video game series of the same name, "Silent Hill" follows a mother (Radha Mitchell) who goes into the uniquely haunted town of Silent Hill to try and rescue her adopted daughter, Heather (Jodelle Ferland). While the film isn't super accurate to the story from the games, it does capture the mood and some of the themes and completely nails the aesthetic, which can be half the battle with video game titles as visually recognizable as "Silent Hill." There's just nothing quite like its grungy industrial meat locker vibe and its delightfully disturbing monsters,...

The Hills Have Eyes 2. No, not that one. That’s The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 and has one of the greatest things ever filmed where a dog, an actual dog, has a flashback and its just, muah, chef’s kiss. While I actually think that original 1985 sequel is way too much fun for its own good – it was written and directed by Craven, brings back Michael Berryman, has Harry Manfredini give us the score, and oh yeah, has a dog flashback. A Dog, Flashback – I’m not here to talk about that one that is probably so bad it’s good. When promoting Saving Private Ryan, Steven Spielberg claimed that every war movie is an anti-war movie. I think this is doubly true when it comes to genre cinema. After all, what better way to immerse audiences in the horrors of war than by telling a story specifically designed to scare them?
Hell, sometimes the war itself doesn’t even need to happen onscreen, like in the case of 1954’s Godzilla – one of the all-time best commentaries on nuclear warfare. And with Takashi Yamazaki returning the radioactive dinosaur to his post-war roots in Godzilla Minus One, we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six more war-time horror movies for fans of historical terror.

In the early eighties, Arnold Schwarzenegger had become a star through his role in Conan the Barbarian. Following a critically maligned but successful sequel, Conan the Destroyer, Schwarzenegger sought to move into more contemporary roles. His contract with producer Dino De Laurentis was ending, but the legendary mogul wanted to use Schwarzenegger’s star power to launch another adaption of Robert E. Howard’s work – Red Sonja. The resulting film was a star vehicle for Brigitte Nielsen, who some saw as a potential female action icon, and Schwarzenegger, due to his contract with De Laurentis, had no choice but to appear in a critical supporting role (for which he would be top-billed) opposite Nielsen, who played the titular character.

From historically accurate costumes to expensive set designs, it takes a lot of money to shoot a believable period piece, with these films requiring an additional level of planning in order to feel true to life. That’s why it’s so rare to see non-blockbuster productions take on this challenge – especially when it comes to monster movies.
That being said, there are still some brave genre filmmakers that try and experiment with different story settings without the benefit of a super-hero movie budget, which often leads to incredibly unique horror films. That’s why we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six of the best period-piece monster movies, as creature features shouldn’t have to be limited to any particular era.
For the purposes of this list, we’ll be defining “period piece” as any movie that takes place in a time period previous to when it was filmed.

A genre that has been around for decades and gets talked about too rarely, sword and sorcery can encompass many films and sub-genres. So, what makes a sword and sorcery film better than the others? What makes it worthy of being the best? For some it will be how closely it follows the genre’s established rules and typical stories. For others, it will be how well-written and directed they are. For us, it’s how enjoyable they are, so, yes, some will deviate a bit from the usual rules of the genre, but all will be fun. So let’s take a look at what we consider the best sword and sorcery movies!

With the exception of J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert E. Howard is likely the most influential author in all of fantasy fiction, with his beloved Conan the Barbarian stories transporting avid readers to the thrilling days of high adventure. However, the character also has a surprising link to the horror genre due to Howard’s occasional use of Cosmic Horror elements, something that was at least partially influenced by his long-time friendship with H.P. The upcoming “Red Sonja" live-action feature, directed by M.J. Bassett ("Solomon Kane"), based on Robert E. Howard's character 'Red Sonya of Rogatino', reimagined in 1973 by writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics, stars Matilda Lutz, Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El Feitury and Katrina Durden:
Originally, Robert E. Howard's 'Sonya of Rugantino', was a female pirate from the 16th century, debuting in Howard's short story "The Shadow of the Vulture" in "Magic Carpet" magazine (1934).
Writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Barry Windsor-Smith reworked the character in 1973, for Marvel Comics "Conan the Barbarian #23, transposing the timeline to Howard's 'Hyborian Age'.

Content Warning: the following article contains discussions of sexual violence.
The Red Sonja remake starring Matilda Lutz as the She-Devil with a Sword will change one aspect of the original movie for the better, eliminating sexual assault from the warrior woman's backstory. While details on the plot of the remake are tightly guarded, it has been established as drawing inspiration from the 2013 Red Sonja comic book revamp written by Gail Simone, which similarly changed Red Sonja's history in the comics. This was confirmed by director M.J. Bassett, who stated in an interview that she had "no interest in fictional women who use [rape] as an engine of motivation" (per THR)
While the character of Red Sonja has existed for decades, she is still best known through the 1985 film starring Brigitte Nielsen. Loosely tied to the Conan the Barbarian movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the film was a box office bomb and...

A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production last year with director M.J. Today The Hollywood Reporter posted an interesting article about how Red Sonja was able to escape from development hell… and it basically boils down to a director’s enthusiasm for the material and a producer’s desperation to get the movie made.
The 50-something Bassett says she has been borderline obsessed with Red Sonja since her childhood, and “I cursed every time they announced someone else (as director). I kept telling them, ‘When you change again, let me know.’” And they did let her know when Soloway...

The site of the day’s carnage is a small village half an hour by car from Sofia, capital of Bulgaria. Under gray skies, Shire-like houses dot a lush green meadow. M.J. Bassett, back hunched, ponytail swinging, tramps across the location for the shoot, which will recount a key moment in the origin story of Red Sonja, the voluptuous comic book heroine known to fans for rallying kinfolk to fight evil while clad in her signature chain-mail bikini. The rain hardens and Bassett, with neither the time nor the budget to linger, sets up the scene. Pyrotechnics are fine, she tells an assistant director, but what really matters is emotional impact. She wants tight, close shots, the children’s painful choices to be clear.

In the 30 years since Avi Lerner founded Millennium Media, then Nu Image, in 1992, the company, legendary at the American Film Market for its straight-to-video mockbusters (Freefall, Cyborg Cop), creature features (Crocodile, Killer Rats) and cookie-cutter macho action mov- ies (Operation Delta Force, Deadly Outbreak) has grown up. Millennium hasn’t abandoned its genre roots, but by focusing on fewer, bigger movies that can secure proper theatrical releases — most of them economically shot at the company’s Nu Boyana studios in Bulgaria and Greece— the company has built up an impressive library of blockbuster franchises, from Gerard Butler’s Has Fallen series to action comedy romps The Hitman’s Bodyguard, featuring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. German star Veronica Ferres (Rossini, Crisis, Salt & Fire) has joined the cast of sword and sorcery reboot Red Sonja.
Ferres will play the mother of Red Sonja and the Goddess Ashera in the new film, which is being pitched as more an adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s original Marvel comic than a reboot of the 1985 feature starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The 80s film was a notorious flop. Producers Millennium Media are also handling international sales.
Italian-American actress Matilda Lutz (Revenge) is playing Red Sonja. Wallis Day, Robert Sheehan, Michael Bisping, Martyn Ford, Eliza Matengu, Manal El-Feitury and Katrina Durden co-star.
M.J. Bassett (Rouge, Silent Hill: Revelation) is directing, taking over from Joey Soloway, who is still attached as an executive producer on the project. Red Sonja is currently shooting at Millennium’s Nu Boyana studios in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Following rumors of a reboot, Konami confirms a new Silent Hill movie is officially in development. Konami's Silent Hill franchise began back in 1999 with the survival horror video game of the same name, which follows writer Harry Mason as he searches for his adopted daughter in the titular town. With the first game widely considered one of the greatest ever made, subsequent sequels focused on different characters who visit the hellish town of Silent Hill populated with monsters that manifest their fears.
After the massive success of the games, Silent Hill was adapted to the screen in 2006 by writer/director Christophe Gans. While it received mostly negative reviews, 2006's Silent Hill featured some impressive visuals that were enough to make it a decent box office hit. It was followed by the 2012 sequel Silent Hill: Revelation, written and directed by M.J. Bassett. The sequel was based on the Silent Hill 3 video...

He appeared in a video message during the livestream to discuss the project. In addition, Victor Hadida, who executive produced the 2006 film, will produce “Return.” Gans confirmed that the movie would adapt the second game in the franchise, which was announced to receive an upcoming remake for the Playstation 5 during the same livestream.
“The film tells a story of a young guy coming back to Silent Hill, where he has known a great love,” Gans said during the livestream. “And what he is going to find is a pure nightmare.”

Near the end of August, it was announced that the long-awaited Red Sonja reboot was filming with M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) directing and Matilda Lutz (Revenge) taking on the lead role. In early September, we heard that Oliver Trevena (The Rising Hawk) had joined Lutz in the cast – and Trevena’s character was the only one, other than Red Sonja herself, we ever got a description of. The actor had been cast as Tr’aal, “a gladiator-type warrior who joins Sonja in her fight against an evil emperor”. Unfortunately Deadline reports that Trevena has since had to drop out of Red Sonja due to scheduling issues. They also report that Rhona Mitra of Doomsday and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is in the cast, but no details about her character have been revealed.

Amid the torrent of accusations leveled against powerful Hollywood men in the frenzied first few months of the #MeToo era, industry observers often shared the same jaded expectation. Short of arrest or indictment, the thinking went, the accused would be back on their feet after a brief time-out and a few memory-cleansing news cycles, carrying on with their careers unaffected. The dollar is king; Hollywood always forgets; etc.
This hasn’t happened. In fact, comebacks — if they materialize at all — are strikingly and significantly circumscribed. One of #MeToo’s greatest victories, at the practical level, has been its unrelenting administration of professional punishment.
