A24 continues its stream of special runs opening dark comedy Dream Scenario in limited release on six screens in New York and LA. Written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli (Sick Of Myself) and produced by Ari Aster, it stars Nicolas Cage as a hapless family man whose life is turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams.

The film premiered at Toronto Film Festival to stellar reviews (see Deadline’s here). A24 had a SAG-AFTRA waiver and Cage began promoting the film at TIFF. The English-language debut for Norwegian helmer Borgli — whose satire Sick Of Myself premiered at Cannes last year — also features Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Kate Berlant, Nicholas Braun and Noah Centineo.

Writer-director Daniel Brown’s Your Lucky Day offers a twist-laden take on the hostage crisis film. Set almost entirely within a convenience store, the story revolves around a $156 million-winning lottery ticket and how it triggers a bloody series of events. A young drug dealer, Sterling (the late Angus Cloud), pounces on the opportunity and robs the unlucky winner right before a policeman emerges from the bathroom. Faced with too many loose ends to simply leave and collect the money, Sterling opts to cut in the witnesses that he initially takes as hostages, as long as they help him cover up his crimes.

For a thriller, Your Lucky Day’s atmosphere is oddly and refreshingly relaxed. For one, the characters don’t need much convincing when it comes to going with Sterling’s plan. Some, like the pregnant Ana Marlene (Jessica Garza), even prove quite adept at scheming as they puzzle...

Before Angus Cloud’s death at age 25 in late July, the Euphoria actor completed work on Daniel Brown’s Your Lucky Day, an intense-looking thriller featuring Cloud as a trivial criminal whose plan to steal a winning lottery ticket spirals out of control. In the Your Lucky Day trailer, Brown depicts how a split decision to seize an opportunity to change your future can turn deadly.

In the promo, Cloud’s desperate character, Sterling, spontaneously decides to rob a lottery winner at a local convenience store. As the conflict intensifies and push comes to shove, Sterling does the unthinkable by killing a rookie cop, landing himself in a position to take hostages or risk incarceration. Angus Cloud is appearing onscreen for one of the last times in heist movie “Your Lucky Day.”

The “Euphoria” star, who died at age 25 in July 2023, leads writer-director-actor Daniel Brown’s feature directorial debut. Cloud plays drug dealer Sterling, who holds a convenience store hostage after he witnesses an older wealthy man win a $156 million lottery. Jessica Garza, Elliot Knight, and Mousa Hussein Kraish play witnesses, with Sterling Beaumon cast as a cop. The film is adapted from writer Brown’s 2010 short film of the same name, with Rider Strong in the role of Sterling.

“I had written the character based on people I had grown up with: guys who sold drugs and would start fights with frat boys or their stepdads, but who were also super protective and loyal to their friends,” Brown told Entertainment Weekly. “[Cloud’s] stories and outlook were so right on for the character, I just had to go for it.

Angus Cloud is being remembered by director Daniel Brown, who cast the late “Euphoria” star in a starring role in his upcoming film “Your Lucky Day”.

Speaking with Variety, Brown pays tribute to Cloud, who plays a low-level drug dealer who finds himself a tense standoff with police after killing a lottery winner who just discovered he held a winning ticket worth $156 million, in order to take the ticket for himself.

“It’s not really even mine anymore. It’s really for him.”

“I had written the script again and shared it with my wife. While I was out of town on a shoot, she had watched all of ‘Euphoria’, and she said, ‘You know, who should be in your movie? It should be this guy, Angus Cloud,'” Brown recalled.

Daniel Brown has paid tribute to his 'Your Lucky Day' star Angus Cloud.The director is preparing for the release of his movie - which tells the story of a man who wins the lottery but dies shortly after finding out his numbers came up - but admitted it is bittersweet as Angus passed away earlier this year.In the movie, Angus played a drug dealer who held up the lottery winner.Brown told Variety: "I remember listening to an interview where Angus was talking about fame and having a hard time. And I just thought he was such a sweetheart that it would be Ok, that it would work out because he was just so genuinely kind."Maybe because I am a dad, I think about directing a little bit as being a dad to your cast. You’re there to take care of them. So I was imagining the future.

If you can’t take it with you when you go, then where does it end up?

Daniel Brown thought a lot about this before making his upcoming film “Your Lucky Day,” which tells the ironic story of a man who wins the lottery but dies shortly after finding out his numbers hit. First created as short in 2010 starring Rider Strong, the story takes place one Christmas Eve at a corner store called Sip ‘n’ Go, where a white-haired boomer-aged wealthy man wearing a tie stops to scan his lotto tickets. After making brief and somewhat bigoted small talk with the store’s owner Amir (Mousa Hussien Kraish), the machine plays a little jingle, “Winner!! Winner!!” appears on the tiny screen. “What’s the total up to?” the man asks Amir. “$156 million.”
