he United Kingdom has an infamous history when it comes to censorship. The debacle of the eighties with many films, either good or bad becoming the victims of censorship is something that we’d rather forget. Films were looked down on even for having certain words in the title, with one example being Chainsaw which was probably because of the dubious connection to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. One of these movies that dared to test the censors with such a name was Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers which 88 Films have now released on Blu-ray as part of their Slasher Classics Collection.

Amir Shervan’s 1991 goofy cop thriller Samurai Cop has developed a cult following and has been playing to sell-out crowds all across the country. On Thursday, August 28, 2014, the film will be shown at the Cinefamily Theater in Los Angeles at 10:30 pm. The event will be hosted by actor Douglas Dunning and scheduled to appear in person following the screening are actors Matt Hannon and Jimmy Williams, as well as director of photography Peter Palian.

Even in an era when action sludge was more common than shoulder pads or skinny ties, 1989’s Samurai Cop stood out as a true anomaly. Perhaps living legend Joe Bob Briggs summed it up best: a “recently unearthed, soon-to-be-classic kung-fu action-comedy skin flick with gratuitous gore elements.

The Bet Awards are getting a little more inclusive this year. While Jay-z leads the pack of nominations, followed by Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Trey Songz, and Melanie Fiona, there's also a nod for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. No need to adjust your screens.

Bieber earned a nomination for Best New Artist. He's up against Melanie Fiona, Nicki Minaj, Wale, and Young Money. Bieber has appeared on Bet as his popularity started to rise, including performing his single "Baby" on the network's "106 & Park" and participating in their "Sos Help For Haiti Benefit."

Gomez earns her nomination for the YoungStars Award, where she's up against Keke Palmer, Lil Jj, Willow Smith, and Tyler James Williams. Unlike the Biebs, I'm not sure the words "Selena" and "Gomez" have been uttered together on Bet.

The 2010 Bet Awards, airing Sunday, June 27th on Bet, will feature performances Drake, Diddy, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, and others yet to be announced.
