There's one critique that's continuously followed The Stormlight Archive, but it's actually the book series' greatest virtue. The Stormlight Archive's magic system is broken down into ten orders of the Knights Radiant, each with their own abilities and ideals. As part of Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere book universe, magic in The Stormlight Archive works with a similar foundational idea to that in Mistborn or Elantris. Investiture is a source of energy in the Cosmere that takes different forms in different systems. In the Mistborn series, characters have access to the Metallic Arts, while on Roshar, magic takes the form of Surgebinding.

Fantasy novels often require heavy exposition in the beginning to introduce new universes and complex systems. Well-written fantasy series provide an enormous payoff and engaging experience for readers in rich, expansive worlds. From unique perspectives to intricate worldbuilding, fantasy series like The Broken Earth and The Poppy War push boundaries.

While most book genres include worldbuilding and complex storytelling, fantasy particularly lends itself to writing that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in the literary world. When it comes to fantasy and sci-fi, to a certain extent, often an entirely new universe must be created from scratch by the author. This style means that the early parts of a fantasy series will be heavy with exposition. In addition, there will be dialogue explaining how the culture, magic systems, and political machine work. If the author is skilled, there will also be character-building and compelling incidents to keep the reader engaged.

Following his recent well-received return to the Saw franchise with Spiral, filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman is now set to direct a new horror film about the real-life Lalaurie Mansion in New Orleans.

Written by Chad and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring), the Lalaurie Mansion movie will be filmed partly at the actual mansion (the same location where Hayes brothers wrote the film's screenplay) and is the first film in a planned franchise.

Exclusive: The Conjuring creators Chad and Carey Hayes and producers Faster Horse Pictures (The Tax Collector) have set Saw franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman to helm their new horror franchise The Lalaurie Mansion.

Bousman, who has directed four of the Saw movies including this year’s Spiral with Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson, will direct the leadoff film in the proposed series of movies about the infamous New Orleans property.

The Hayes Brothers have written the film’s screenplay in the house, and the production will shoot portions of the film on-site as well, despite public access not being possible since 1932.

The first movie will be set in the present day and is being lined up for Q4 2021. Casting will begin now. We hear that studio and streamer interest is already high in the project.

Hopefully, one day, Ron Howard's feature film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower epic will happen. The project isn't completely dead yet, but it seems like it's just kind of sitting around not going anywhere at the moment. While we wait for some good news though, concept artist Gregory Hill released some great illustrations that he did for the movie. The designs are for various locations in the story such as Devar Toi, Tull, The Dogan, The Manni Village, A Harrier Near The Speaking Ring, The Thinny, Tull, and The Speaking Ring. There are also two videos that give us a fly through look at the town of Tull.
