    On August 2, 2018, she got in a motorcycle accident in Utah on her way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Her husband Hans-Jürgen Stangl was seriously injured; a rider died at the scene of the accident. Stein died at Kane County Hospital in Kanab. She was 50 years old.
