Days of Our Lives always has fun, sometimes obscure pop-culture references interspersed in the characters’ dialogue. In December 2022, an eagle-eyed fan on X, formerly Twitter, noticed a mention of the president of Salem’s city council as being Cass Winthrop. This was a nod to the Another World character of the same name. Stephen Schnetzer played Cass from 1982 until 1999 and recently reprised his Days role as Steven Olson. Now comes another reference to an old soap. And the fans were on top of it.
Lady Whistleblower’s Bank Gave It Away
On the January 7 episode of Days, Stephanie (Abigail Klein) implored Chad (Billy Flynn) to tell her the identity of the new Lady Whistleblower, whose articles are endangering the soap-within-a-soap called Body & Soul. Chad went on about privacy issues and admitted that the person submitted articles anonymously. However, Steph convincingly argued that the articles were hit pieces, not just opinions.

Shoot 'Em Up offered a unique, over-the-top approach to the action genre, inspired by Hard Boiled and filled with memorable one-liners and wild concepts. The movie benefited from Peter Pau's cinematography and Clive Owen's dedication to doing his own stunts. Despite a modest budget and positive reviews, Shoot 'Em Up underperformed at the box office, possibly due to a controversial guerrilla marketing campaign.
As the action genre enjoys a newfound dominance on the big screen, Clive Owen reflects on the failure of Shoot 'Em Up. The 2007 movie starred Owen as Smith, a mysterious drifter who inadvertently becomes the guardian of a baby being hunted by a ruthless assassin and his henchmen. Alongside Owen, the ensemble cast included Paul Giamatti, Monica Bellucci, Stephen McHattie, Greg Byrk and Daniel Pilon. Though produced on a modest budget of $39 million and garnering solid reviews from critics, the movie performed poorly at the box office,...

Le diable est parmi nous (a/k/a The Possession of Victoria and Satan’s Sabbath)
Written by John Dunning and André Link
Directed by Jean Beaudin
Canada, 1972
Le diable est parmi nous (also known as The Possession of Virginia and Satan’s Sabbath) continues the Fantasia International Film Festival’s foray into the dark, sleazy recesses on Quebec’s cinematic past. This, like the previously-covered Pouvoir intime, is another homegrown genre effort that hasn’t seen the light of day on home video since the VHS era. The 35mm copy shown at the festival is the only complete extant print, and was loaned from the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa. As such, the screened version is in as good a shape as you could expect an archival print to be. The film itself, meanwhile, is remarkably messier, pitched somewhere between a Parallax View-esque conspiracy thriller and an occult-themed sexploitation film,...

What do Civil War vampire Nicolas Cage and Christian evangelist Kirk Cameron have in common? Well, if things work out, they will have both played Cameron "Buck" Williams in the Left Behind series.
Nicolas Cage is eyeing the lead in a big screen remake of this Christian-themed end of the world thriller from writers Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. This will be the first theatrical feature from faith-oriented production company Stoney Lake Entertainment.
With a projected budget of $15 million, this reboot of the series will shoot in early spring with a projected release date of Fall 2013. Samuel Goldwyn Films is releasing the film theatrically.
The story will follow a group of survivors who are left behind after the biblical rapture. The original trilogy became the highest grossing Christian-themed franchise ever produced.

Cloud Ten Pictures is looking to resurrect its faith-based franchise Left Behind for a new theatrical feature. Paul Lalonde, who wrote the original Left Behind in 2001, and John Patus, who wrote the last entry in the franchise, Left Behind: World at War, have written the screenplay. The studio will shop the script to buyers at the American Film Market this week.
It is said this new Left Behind movie will center on the Rapture, and will be structured like a classic disaster movie. The story focuses on the survivors after the first few hours of the Rapture. Cloud Ten Pictures is eyeing a budget of $15 million, which would make it one of the most ambitious faith-based projects ever. The studio is currently seeking a director.
