In an unprecedented move, Gaumont, the Paris-based TV & Film production house behind such global hits as “Narcos” and “Lupin,” has forged a co-production deal with Brazilian media powerhouse, Globo.

The new pact was announced as Miami confab Content Americas wrapped on Thursday. Netflix’s Technoboys is a comedic look at what happens when boy band dreams crash into midlife reality. It is messy but funny, and it takes a comedic look at the world of failed pop stars. For the first time, Luis Gerardo Méndez directs this Mexican comedy. He also stars as Alan, the desperate former lead singer of the hugely famous band Technoboys.

The movie takes place after the boy band era and is about Alan’s silly quest to find his lost teammates and get back to his former glory. Imagine a reunion in pop music that is less of a triumphant return and more of a funny train wreck. Jessica Alba is continuing her climate advocacy — this time with a hosting gig at the Latino Victory Project’s second annual Brunch Like a Madre rally to launch its 2024 Vote Like a Madre campaign.

Vote Like a Madre is a nonpartisan program that works to educate the public on climate issues and increase Latina voter turnout. It will invest more than $2 million in voter turnout this year. Exclusive: Amazon MGM Studios has signed an exclusive overall deal with Gary “Gaz” Alazraki’s Maquina Vega. Under the deal, Alazraki is set to produce, write and direct series for Amazon MGM Studios.

Alazraki is a Mexican director known for directing the movies Father of The Bride (2022; writer and director of Mexico’s record-breaking comedy Nosotros Los Nobles (2013); and co-creator, executive producer and director of Club De Cuervos (2015), Netflix’s first Spanish original series. He heads Maquina Vega and is a board member of Oceana.

Alazraki began his career by directing commercials and the short films: Volver (2005) starring Jaime Camil, Martha Higareda, Tony Dalton and La Hora Cero (2008) produced by Guillermo Arriaga.

In 2011, he began production on Nosotros Los Nobles starring Gonzalo Vega, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Karla Souza and Juan Pablo Gil which he directed/wrote/produced. The film was released by Warner Bros. in 2013 and it became the highest-grossing Mexican movie of all time.

Martin Freeman was among the winners at the 51st International Emmys, held in New York on Monday (November 20), taking home best performance by an actor for UK series The Responder.

Turkish telenovela “Yargi,” German miniseries “The Empress,” Mexican drama “La Caída” and actor Martin Freeman were among the top winners at the 51st annual International Emmy Awards, held Monday at the New York Hilton Midtown.

All told, the International Emmys recognized TV programs from across the continents, with strong showings from the U.K. and Australia. Brazil logged the win for unscripted series for its adventure competition series “A Ponte” (The Bridge). “Vir Das: Landing,” a Netflix comedy from India, tied with the U.K.’s “Derry Girls” for the win in the comedy series category.

The ceremony was hosted by comedian Rhys Darby. Special awards were presented to “Succession” creator/executive producer Jesse Armstrong, who received the Founders Emmy, and Ektaa R. Kapoor, co-founder Balaji Telefilms, who took home the Directorate Award. Armstrong was feted by Casey Bloys, HBO and Max chairman-ceo, while Deepak Chopra did the honors for Kapoor.

The 2023 International Emmys awarded its winners and the comedy Derry Girls, the stand-up special Vir Das: Landing and the drama series The Empress landed the top awards.

It was revealed last week that ABC has cancelled Home Economics after three seasons. The co-creators of the series have talked about the cancellation and one of them has expressed hopes that a new home can be found for the sitcom and a fourth season will be made.

ABC made the shocking decision to cancel Home Economics last week after three seasons.

Series co-creator Michael Colton took to social media over the weekend to reflect on working on the show and the next steps.

"I spent a couple days off Twitter, so I'm just now catching up to the outpouring of love and support for our show," Colton wrote on X on Sunday.

"Making 42 episodes of Home Economics has been the best experience of my career, and that's due to our incredible cast, crew, and fans…"

Mike Colton posted to Instagram today to thank everyone for the experience. He followed co-creator John Aboud’s Friday post on the subject.

The comedy series, which is based on the life of writer and executive producer Michael Colton, revolved around the heartwarming yet super uncomfortable and sometimes frustrating relationship between three adult siblings: one who’s in the one percent, one who’s middle class and one who’s barely holding on.

The series starred Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Karla Souza and Sasheer Zamata and featured Shiloh Bearman, Jordyn Curet, Chloe Jo Rountree and JeCobi Swain. Grace also executive produced alongside Eric and Kim Tannenbaum of The Tannenbaum Company. Jason Wang also served as a coexecutive producer.

The Topher Grace-led ensemble comedy wrapped its abbreviated third season in January. At the time, EP Michael Colton expressed optimism about the series’ fate, telling TVLine, “We’re optimistic. We know the network is very happy with the show. And we have a very devoted fan base. We’re just waiting for the right people to weigh in. It’s a process. But we’re planning to come back. We have a lot more stories to tell.
