In his Sundance review, Matt Donato wrote that Chris Nash's In a Violent Nature "...gushes exquisite gore and reimagines the slasher structure with newfound originality," and ahead of its May 31st theatrical release via IFC Films, the film's official trailer teases some of the new movie's macabre moments after a corpse is resurrected for a vengeful rampage in the woods.

Synopsis: When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year old crime, his body is resurrected and becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back - along with anyone in his way.

In A Violent Nature gets its first full-length trailer, teasing the gory upcoming horror flick. Directed by Chris Nash, In A Violent Nature approaches the slasher horror subgenre with a twist. Instead of telling a story from the victims' point of view, the film unfolds from the perspective of the killer. The movie, which stars Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, and Cameron Love, just recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and, as of this writing, it currently holds an impressive 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Much like the “Friday the 13th” franchise, “Violent Nature” hits all the known beats: a masked killer named Johnny traipsing through the woods, camping teens, a local who escaped death years ago, buckets of gore. But including these cornerstones doesn’t feel like a retread—instead, it gave Nash room to play freely. Like, for example, making the perspective largely tethered to the killer. Paris-based sales house Charades has acquired international sales rights to “In a Violent Nature,” the debut feature film from writer and director Chris Nash that is set to premiere in Sundance’s Midnight Section on Jan. 22.

Produced by Shudder under the streaming service’s Shudder Original banner, the film follows a vengeful undead monster as he methodically slaughters a group of campers in the wilderness after they remove a pendant from his resting grounds. Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer are also producers on “In a Violent Nature,” which is set for release in 2024.

Sundance turns 40 this year and AMC Networks is celebrating the film festival’s big 4-0 with the release of a curated lineup of dozens of movies that previously debuted at the event, including “Birth/Rebirth,” “Sleeping with Other People,” “Savage Grace” and “Heathers,” for streamer AMC+.

A long-time sponsor of the Sundance Film Festival with roots in indie films through IFC Films and now horror-focused streamer Shudder, whcih is debuting Chris Nash’s “In A Violent Nature” at the fest this year, AMC Networks will be offering the compilation of Sundance movies all through January, in connection with the 2024 edition of the film festival running Jan. 18-28.

“This collection is such a great way to honor the history of the legacy of Sundance bring AMC+ subscribers, who are not going to be in Park City, virtually to the event through this portfolio of such unforgettable films,” chief commercial officer for AMC Networks Kim Kelleher told Variety.

The Sundance Film Festival is one of the most highly respected film festivals in the world, and while the horror genre generally doesn’t seem to receive as much respect as it deserves, horror has had a steady presence at Sundance over the years. In fact, just last year the Sundance horror line-up included the likes of Infinity Pool, Talk to Me, My Animal, and Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls. The Sundance 2024 line-up was revealed earlier today (you can see the list Here) – and there again a good number of horror movies included in the program.

Shudder, AMC Networks’ popular streaming service for horror, just nabbed rights for Sundance Film Festival 2024 Midnighter In a Violent Nature, Variety reports today.

The news arrives hot on the hells of Sundance’s lineup announcement this morning. Look for the film sometime in 2024, release date to be announced.

Shudder’s upcoming slasher follows “the enigmatic resurrection, rampage, and retribution of an undead monster in a remote wilderness.”

Chris Nash wrote and directed In a Violent Nature.

The film is produced by Shudder as a Shudder Original and is also produced by Peter Kuplowsky, and Shannon Hanmer.

Today they announced the comprehensive slate of independent films selected from the fest that will take place January 18–28, 2024, in person in Park City, Salt Lake City, and the Sundance Resort, along with a selection of films available online across the country January 25–28, 2024. Packages and passes are available now and single tickets will be available beginning January 11 at Sundance’s site.

Highlights from the upcoming slate of programming includes Love Lies Bleeding starring Kristen Stewart, Steven Soderbergh‘s Presence, Sasquatch Sunset, and so much more.

Exclusive: The hierarchy has broadened the remit of next month’s Fantastic Market, maintaining the event’s historically strong ties with Latin American projects while expanding into a forum that addresses global genre.

Organisers at Fantastic Market, set to run in Austin, Texas, from September 22-25, unveiled the initial slate of projects and announced that Elijah Wood and his SpectreVision co-founders Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller and CEO Lisa Whalen will be among the speakers.

Ryan Turek of Blumhouse and Travis Stevens of Snowfort Pictures will deliver the opening keynote address, while speakers include Rodo Sayagues, the screenwriter and executive producer of the imminent Screen Gems release Don’t Breathe.

“We have transformed the market into a full-fledged industry event with screenings, talks, panels, film pitches and special guests from all over the world,” said market director Rodney Perkins. “Our goal is to become the premiere industry forum for genre films.”
