Comicbook artist and writer Frank Miller, the man behind classics “300,” “Sin City” and “Daredevil,” is working on his new projects through Frank Miller Presents, the publishing banner he launched last year.

Miller, speaking at Lucca Comics & Games this week, told Variety what drove him to embark on this new creative venture. “I’d say I was driven by restlessness. I wanted to take advantage of my experience and my reputation, and to recognize that now it’s time to be an adult.”

Being aware that “the industry has been running down a certain path for a very long time,” Miller felt ready to explore new avenues and to work with undiscovered talents.

Frank Miller Presents is currently focusing its efforts on two main projects. The first is “Ronin,” whose new volumes are in the works. A sequel to the 1983-1984 limited series, the cyberpunk tale is based on Miller...

I should tell you their first names, though the book doesn’t: Jose Munoz and Carlos Sampayo. Munoz is the artist; Sampayo is the writer. They’re both Argentine, though they mostly worked in Europe, over the past forty-plus years. Both still alive, as far as I know, now in their upper seventies.

Billie Holiday was written in Spanish, originally published in 1991. It’s had editions in English since then – I have no idea if it’s always been the same translation. This one is from Nbm, and came out in 2017. It includes a long discursive introduction about Holiday by Francis Marmande, who I gather is a prominent French writer on jazz. The introduction tells us her story in an in-your-face, demanding style – not unlike the book itself, though in a different way – probably in part because the comics pages themselves will only lightly touch on that story.
