Looking ahead to 2025, here are the 45 films of all genres – from horror to comedy to drama and more – we reckon you really shouldn’t miss.

Special mentions:

Firstly, the movies you won’t be seeing, but want to namecheck. Our rules were that we didn’t want to include films that had screened, but not made it to the UK yet (with the exception of British films). Hence – sorry Kevin – the next Horizon film isn’t on the list. There’s stuff we’re watching for release dates too: Above The Below, Mother’s Pride, All Of You, and such like. We acknowledge too that there’s a Michael Jackson biopic that you won’t find below. Plus superhero films that don’t really need our help, so we limited ourselves to one or two of those.

In an interview with Collider, Yen revealed that he is not only set to reprise his role, but is also in talks to direct the Caine spinoff himself:

I think both the fans, as well as the studio, want this to happen, and we'll see. I don't know. I can only tell you that much. But yes, we are talking, and we are talking intimately. We'll see what happens. But at the same time, I hold responsibility as well as a pressure that I don't want to ruin the franchise. I try to do my best to bring something fresh to the franchise itself. I don't want to bring down the expectations for the fans. I try to do my best, like always.

The John Wick universe keeps growing, and Ballerina will take us deeper into that world, as we have already confirmed in our earlier reports. Fantasy is one of those genres that invokes something magical in all of us, from the heroic journey in The Lord of the Rings films to the coming-of-age fantastical story in Harry Potter, and maybe that’s why this genre has one of the most loyal fan bases. Deadline reports that Apple TV+ has scooped up the rights to Bananas, a drama series from David O. Russell set to star Oscar Isaac and Ana de Armas. The project was the subject of a heated bidding war, but Apple took home the prize.

Russell is attached to direct the series from a script by Carolina Paiz (Narcos). Unfortunately, the plot is being kept under wraps, so that’s all we know about it. Russell will also executive produce alongside Isaac, de Armas, and Paiz.

Frame it anyway you want, but From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina has a bit of a PR job on its hands. It’s got to convince potential audiences that a visit to the cinema will guarantee them the same level of high-quality action and thrills that they’d get from a mainline John Wick movie, and it’s been bumpy up to this point.

Far be it from me to talk down a movie’s chances before it arrives, but the public perception of reshoots often leads to the assumption that a film’s in trouble. The extensive reshooting of Ballerina means that chatter around the film is already focusing on whether it’s doomed or not.

Lionsgate is bringing light in darkness, unveiling a character poster for Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro, the titular ballerina of the upcoming John Wick spin-off movie, adding to the already peak anticipation for this expansion. Following their Ccxp presentation Sunday, Lionsgate also released a new extended look featurette examining the film.

As you can see on the poster, Eve is tatted up, with one notable phrase standing out above the rest: Lux in Tenebris, which is Latin for Light in Darkness. That might feel a little on the nose, but it does give us a better glimpse into her psyche – especially when she’s got a gun in her hand. Ana De Armas is finally stepping into the John Wick universe with the next installment in the massive action franchise previously led by Keanu Reeves.

Ahead of the spin-off’s June 6, 2025 premiere, Lionsgate unveiled a new featurette for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina during a Comic-Con Brazil panel, which was livestreamed on YouTube on Sunday.

The featurette was introduced by Reeves and John Wick director Chad Stahelski in a pre-recorded message. “Today is a big day,” said the latter. “Keanu and I are thrilled to welcome Ana, Norman [Reedus] and [director Len Wiseman] into the world of John Wick. And we couldn’t be happier that the amazing Ian McShane could be there with you in person.”

Reeves added, “So, remember all the amazing crazy stuff going on in Chapter 3? Well, it turns out there was a lot of stuff you didn’t see.”

The upcoming film, from the world of John Wick, takes place during the events of the franchise’s third movie. The film follows Eve Macarro (de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.

Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane also star in the movie, along with an appearance from Keanu Reeves as John Wick.
